The pain was gone, and for a moment, he thought he was gone, too. A voice he didn't think he'd be relieved to hear woke him up. There was no bringing the dead back to life; they might have mentioned that when agents started getting the same clients twice, or when the files began to say that newly-dead souls weren't as newly-dead as they seemed. A loophole that big wouldn't have escaped his attention.

He let it go. He'd have to keep digging.

He frowned at that. He couldn't think of a reason why anyone would want to protect him, anyway; not unless he paid them. He wasn't exactly loaded right now.

"What kind of fighting lessons?" he asked, almost teasing. It was an interesting thought, but he didn't know how anyone could look at her and think she was suited to combat.
