Night 43: West Wing, South Hall 1-B

Aug 29, 2009 23:00

[from here]Something didn't feel quite right about the building as Beatrix stepped out into the hallway. Moving to the left, she put her back against the wall to wait for Wonka to arrive. She wasn't sure what didn't feel right about it, but her instincts were warning her to expect more of the unexpected and to trust what she felt, not her eyes ( Read more... )

A few stragglers here; there were a pair speaking to each other as they slowly moved south, and another individual waiting patiently under one of the flickering lights. Starscream paid little attention to them, however. He continued forward at a quicker pace; the stairwell was right at the end of the next hall.

At this point, Porky began to pant. Why was it so difficult to just get to the other hallway, dammit?!

The main hallway had been quiet, and now Indy found himself in unfamiliar territory. It was identical to the familiar territory, though--not a lot of new trails to be blazed in here--and so he pressed on.

Another hall, a few more people. No monsters so far. Not that she was surprised; Hime assumed they would wait for some fool soul to wander out by themselves into the darkness. They had numbers here, and even humans, in enough quantity, were nothing to be trifled with.

Still, it seemed the crowd was less out in the larger hallways, meaning if she ventured out now, she would be just one of those fool souls. Should she wait for now? Of course, this depended on her trusting the patients themselves...

It was with this quandary on her mind that Hime stood just outside the Female Block.

And then I'll poke his eyes out! Kagura thought. Knee him in the balls-- ah, but I'll never get to have nephews and nieces if that happens-- oh who cares! I'll knee him in the balls, then hit him on the head, hard! These Kagura acted out in her mind, vividly, and occasionally with her body. It was a good thing nobody was hit yet.

"HOCHAAAAAAAA!" Kagura screamed as she kicked the wall. Hard. She stared at her foot, then at the wall, then at her foot again. "Ouch," she mumbled as she stood on her left foot and tried to massage the pain away from right.

She was also face to face with this girl she has never met before. Patient? Monster? Monster-patient? Kagura couldn't tell.

"Yo."

Hime had just about resolved that striding out boldly (but cautiously; reckless was one of many things she was not) into the night when something small with red hair kicked leapt at her. Or at least in her general direction.

Unfazed by the war cry, Hime watched as girl kicked the wall a foot the right of her, injuring herself it seemed. When the child finally noticed her, she met the discerning look with an unconcerned gaze of her own.

"Good evening," she said to the girl in a neutral tone, though there was just the hint of a smile playing at the corner of her lips. "And just what manner of small human are you?"

No. Not another one of those people with creepy, hinted smiles. The only thing worse than them were people with creepy, obvious smiles. Kagura knew by experience-- lots and lots of experience-- that people who smile for no apparent reason were dangerous.

Unfortunately she failed to learn from these experiences. She watched the woman speak in her usual childlike manner. Blonde hair. Red eyes. That should already be her cue to run, right?

Wrong.

"Hey, sis. You shouldn't make fun of us small people, you know," she said in an equally neutral tone. "Our height makes it easier for us to knee you in the balls."

Hmph. No sign of his daughter. The prosecutor frowned. Franziska had only a short distance to go to meet him here. Where was she?!

While he waited, he looked around. There were two other women standing nearby, apparently waiting to meet others. They were unfamiliar to him, and he had no interest nor need to speak to them.

[skipped a hall from hereGoing back and forth was inefficient, but it was the only choice she had. Thankfully, she'd managed to miss her father on both trips - the outgoing and the incoming - meaning he would have no idea she now had evidence against him. No. Possible evidence. Not conclusive. Nothing conclusive yet. And she would not present such inconclusive evidence, not in a million years. As he had taught her, a case had to be perfect. The perfect witness and the perfect evidence to create a perfect victory and a guilty verdict ( ... )

There she was. Finally! The prosecutor stopped tapping his foot but kept his arms folded as Franziska approached him. At first, von Karma was inwardly relieved that his daughter appeared unharmed -- and, in fact, was pleased to discover that she had found an adequate substitute for her whip -- but that instantly gave way to disapproval as she attempted to explain the reason for her late arrival. Such insolence! Especially since he suspected that this was nothing more than a hasty cover-up for the true reason she had been late in meeting him.

He gave her a cursory nod in response to her greeting, then flashed her a stern look. "Franziska von Karma. You know as well as I that 'dealing with your roommate' is nothing more than a pathetic excuse for tardiness. It matters not how long I have been waiting here. You claimed that this meeting is of high priority. Ergo, barring a true emergency, your roommate can wait." His eyes pierced into hers. "What 'urgent' matters did you really have that would eclipse the importance of this

"I do not make excuses," she snapped back, narrowing her eyes for a split second before her mind caught up to her mouth. She rarely snapped at her father, but right now, she was far from being in the mood to put up with questions regarding her actions. Even so, she should have known better. But there was no taking it back, and so she charged forward, shining her flashlight on the floor. "She held me back and I left her as soon as I could. Infernal woman."

And that was all Franziska was going to say on that. Pry as her father might, she would not reveal the evidence gathering against him, or allow him to figure it out. "But we should go. I have appointments following this - as I'm sure you do as well."
