Dayshift 43: Courtyard [4th Shift]

Aug 21, 2009 22:27

Fresh air, devoid of the foul stench of death, was quite welcome, along with the sun's warmth. It help to distract him from last night's events. The courtyard hadn't been his first choice, but he hadn't had much say in the matter when his nurse cruelly snatched him away from Hinamori, just when she started to warm up to him ( Read more... )

Chekov stepped outside and tried to brush the glitter out of his hair. No feelings were drawn, but his nurse had confiscated the construction-paper covered in FTL equations. No matter, he could recreate them later.

But he was still reeling a little bit from this 'Dist' person's inability to read the primer and discover that alternate worlds and realities existed beyond the fabric of space. Stranger things had happened, Chekov supposed.

...'what are things made of' though? That was an insane question. If this place wasn't a prison, Chekov would have sworn Dist was insane.

Scourge had been tempted to duck into the chapel again and get his head together after notCyclonus left. The lack of response to Galvatron's name had clinched it. Landel's had just picked up some poor deluded idiot, mindwiped him, and set him wandering off towards Scourge like a windup automaton. Nice to know that they cared that much, but Scourge was on to their tricks. He'd even gotten some chocolate bars out of it.

It had sounded so much like him, though...Scourge brushed the thought away. Not Cyclonus. Not. The tracker wandered out into the courtyard, the remaining two candy bars hidden in his pocket. If nothing worse happened today, he could probably survive the night.

Before him stood a man with a glittering head. For no apparent reason. Was it some strange biological trait or had he just dunked his head in a pot of sparkle for kicks? It was a harmless enough question.

"Nice hair," Scourge said, wandering past the confused-looking human. "That normal?"

Chekov blinked, straightening up from brushing at his hair. It took him a moment to process what the man was talking about. Of course his hair was natural... unless he was talking about the glitter that he was trying to get out?

"Ah, no," Chekov said with a friendly smile and a small laugh. "I was just in a glitter-related altercation. I got some in my hair during an argument."

He straightened up, combing his fingers through his hair nervously. "Hawe you met someone who naturally produces small..." he looked at his thumb, which had an offending sparkle on it. "Bits of shining plestic? In zeir hair?"

Scourge, ignoring the whole personal space concept, plucked the residue of the glinting dust from the human's thumb and inspected it closely. Yep, plastic. "At this point?" he answered, heaving a sigh that blew the glitter from his fingers. "It wouldn't be the hardest thing to believe. You get a visitor today too?"

Recluse didn't argue with the nurse that decided that he should take some time outdoors, although it was not without some regret. The moment he stepped outside, the sunlight nearly blinded him. Just when he had thought the photosensitivity issue was becoming relatively manageable.

He found a shaded spot beneath a tree and stood, waiting, watching the door and any that came through it. He was mildly curious about Megatron, although he did at some level represent competition as a mastermind, but he'd yet to form more than a few vague plans in his mind about what to do with regards to that.

Now that he was convinced that Mother was still alive in this world (since Kadaj apparently was), Loz was filled with a renewed sense of hope. The last thing he felt like doing was crying.

The Remnant chose to go outside to the 'Courtyard', since he hadn't been outside all day. Once he was shown outside, Loz took a brief walk around to see what was out here. A few trees, a pond, and some benches was pretty much all there was to see, as far as he was concerned. Loz found himself a tree to sit under and began watching the clouds go by. He also glanced at the sun and wondered how long it would be until nighttime. He really wanted to play with someone or something.

Loz was a bit startled that someone had just come up to him. It was either because he'd become used to the quiet or because he just wasn't used to this kind of situation.

"I was just, you know, looking around," Loz said. "I only just got here this morning." Then the 'brother' part caught up to the Remnant. Loz, being as dense as he was, said the first conclussion that came to his mind. "'Brother'? Are you like Big Brother? Do you have some of Mother in you too?"

Even though Guy's conversation with Ronixis hadn't done all that much to make him feel any better about the coming night, he was still glad that he'd gotten a chance to talk to the man when they didn't have undead creatures after them at every turn. Now that he thought of it -- had the man gotten a hold of the gun in the end? He hadn't remembered to ask, but he hoped that at least some good might have come out of that disaster last night ( ... )

The shift had ended much earlier than Claude would have liked, which left him feeling really conflicted, to say the least. On one hand, part of him couldn't help but feel angry toward Landel for involving his family in his crazy schemes -- but on the other, he'd gotten a chance to see his mom, of all people, healthy and in good spirits.

Between his first mission in space, winding up on Expel, and getting pulled into the events that followed, she hadn't always been in the forefront of his mind, in all honesty. Oh, he'd think of her, of course -- sometimes when he'd wander through a particular inn alone at night while the rest of his friends were asleep, or when a battle against some monster was looking grim. But once he'd seen her face, heard her voice, and smelled her hair...that was when the fact he'd missed her -- really missed her -- hit him at full force ( ... )

Hearing that voice all of a sudden almost startled Guy, but he thanked Yulia that he didn't visibly show it. It wasn't that he was scared of Claude or anything; he just hadn't expected his friend to show up when he'd just been thinking about him. Still, this was a good thing, since they probably needed to at least address what had happened.

Unless Claude didn't want to. He hadn't come out with any sudden apologies or anything, which probably meant that he didn't know how to apologize. Not that he needed to in the first place, but Guy already knew that his friend had to be beating himself up over what had happened ( ... )

He seemed to be holding up all right, but Claude wasn't sure how much of it was a show for his benefit, and how much was him honestly feeling well. If his own injuries were anything to go by, then his friend shouldn't have been in too much pain right now, or even suffering from any cravings to eat other people. But how long would it last? The knowledge that this could come back to haunt them later tonight had made for a heavy burden, and the fact he'd effectively pulled Guy down with him didn't make it any easier to carry ( ... )

Dory asked to be shown the water. The nurse only complied because it would be good to get the new patient outside. The size of the small pond disappointed her, but Dory didn't say anything to the nurse. She just practiced using her fingers by pulling leaves off a nearby bush and throwing them toward the water one by one. She'd rather throw herself, but it didn't look deep enough for something so big as a human body.

[Augh, I TOTALLY overlooked this thread somehow. D: Forgive me for my tardiness!]

Leonard stood idly for a moment, watching as Anise was collected by one of the nurses and sorting through his own thoughts. He he reached into his pockets, feeling their contents: a book and some photographs. He opened his journal and made a few notes for later. I need a way to better organize these- one where I can find what I need to know more quickly.

The nurses along the wall made no effort to come for him, so Leonard decided to move, hoping to get a better view of the rest of the area. A pond? Nice touch. He spotted a wheelchair-bound woman sitting near the water's edge, plucking leaves from a nearby bush.

"I doubt that's healthy for the plant," he said as he approached her.

Dory looked down at the bit of green in her, uh, hand. Was that the right word? The concept was fading even though she was delighted at how easy to move they were. She glanced back up, pale magenta eyes peering through a blue frame of hair. This guy seemed to think she should answer him. "I thought they grew back," she said. She waved her fingers at him, smiling apologetically. "I needed the practice."
