Day 43: Sun Room

Why does this place always have to spoil my fun? was the first thing HK thought when he realized he was back in his cell in the Institute. Oh well. This meant his nurse would be coming soon to lead him off to whatever boring place he was supposed to go to now ( Read more... )

That, as they say, was that. The fat femme-bot had finished her number and Depth Charge's world was markedly free of zombies ( ... )

As if there could possibly be any other reason. He certainly didn't like Depth Charge, or feel any gratitude beyond that of a debt still owed, or awkwardly enjoy his company-- definitely none of those. Just like he definitely didn't let out a muffled snort of amusement at Depth Charge's questions.

For once, Scourge actually had an excuse.

"I met Lord Recluse and the birdboy when I was stealing stuff at the hardware store." Well, not so much stealing as trying to put large tools down his pants. "After that I followed him over to the park because he invited me along. I didn't even want to meet up with Marcus, he was just kinda there because...I dunno, because Lord Recluse has that weird rival obsession thing going on and wanted to hang out with him. Then everything went to the Pit and I figured safety in numbers."

"Should've known that you'd be the type to wander off with the first big guy who came your way." Depth Charge gave a dismissive shrug. Sure, Scourge's plan had been relatively sensible, but he wasn't going to let him know that. It was good to keep him on his toes.

He glanced at Lugnut with lazy, half-lidded eyes. Not that he was interested at all (after all, why would he care about how a 'con spent his night?), but... "Let me guess. Blitzwing had to keep you on a leash all night."

"... Couldn't find him," Lugnut said, lowly, then looked at Depth Charge with something like hope and asked, "Have you seen...?"

Awkwardly, nervously, his hands tangled in his lap, and he sent another searching look around the room. Where was he?

Scourge winced the moment Depth Charge brought Blitzwing's name up, but Lugnut was taking this surprisingly calmly. Which was actually kind of creepy!

He hoped that, if Cyclonus ever showed up, he'd take better care of his wingmate.

Oh.

Eyebrows raised just a touch, Depth Charge nearly caught Scourge's eye before remembering himself and training his attention on Lugnut again. Slag. He'd seen the guy all but mauled into stasis lock by giant birds while keeping his stone-face, but now? Now he was wringing his hands and glancing around anxiously like a lost sparkling.

"Sorry. I haven't seen him around," he grunted eventually, feeling his stare forced away from Lugnut's face and to the space above his shoulder. It was more than a little disconcerting, and not just because of the change: did he actually feel sorry for him?

"It doesn't matter. He's probably lazing around in his berth," Lugnut growled, with forced annoyance. His wingmate was fine. He just... hadn't shown up yet.

Lugnut took another glance around to make sure he was right about Blitzwing bot being there.

When Lugnut looked away, Scourge shot Depth Charge a shrug and a sad shake of his head. He doubted the Maxibot bought the story anyway.

"... yeah. Probably." Depth Charge shot Scourge a helpless look back, then quickly turned to stare up at the ceiling before Lugnut noticed. The last thing the 'con would want was, appropriately, the last thing he wanted to give him: pity.

Hopefully, Blitzwing would be back in action soon. That way he could stop caring as quickly as possible.
