Nightshift 42: Tasty Burger Rooftop

Jul 21, 2009 15:56

[ Bamf'd from here!In a puff of sulfuric smoke, Kurt and Peter's friend touched down on the roof of the Tasty Burger. Kurt had made an attempt to shift his body underneath the injured boy's, but after teleporting he felt as though he'd been run through the dryer. His knees wobbled and the two of them went crashing to the ground, Kurt clearly out ( Read more... )

There was a lurch of something that was almost like movement, yet also not, and Kurt and Brainiac 5 were suddenly somewhere else. He had enough time to process that it was somewhere high - rooftop, his mind supplied - and that there was an awful reek of sulphur in the area, then Kurt wobbled and they toppled over in a tangle of limbs and twin yelps of surprise and pain.

Gritting his teeth against the pain of his injuries (a slick, wet feeling on his skin hinted that something might have reopened in the chaos), Brainiac 5 pulled himself free of Kurt just in time to see Peter flip onto the rooftop with them and flop into an exhausted heap.

"I'll be fine for now," he answered, "what about you and Peter? From what I saw those things were trying to bite you primarily. Are either of you injured?"

"Fantastic," Kurt replied, his tone a little strained and sarcastic. "Not counting the nightmare down in the street, I'm fine though."

The mutant stood up and bounded over to Peter, trying to help him to his feet. "The zombies were trying to bite him?" he asked, looking back at Peter's friend. "Oh man, what if this is some, like, Zombies Attack Part Five or something? In the movie, when zombies bit someone, they turned into a zombie too..."

Kurt looked down at Peter's foot, grimacing when he saw a rotted tooth stuck in the sole of his shoe. "It didn't get you... right?"

[from here for Ciel and Sebastian!]

With Kurt and Peter gone, Brainiac 5 suddenly felt less certain about remaining here, on the roof and in the open, on his own. While he knew logically that it was incredibly unlikely that Grell or Luxord would find him up here - but hadn't he told himself that before and been wrong? - and that the area was open enough that he could keep an eye on his surroundings, he still would have felt somewhat... safer to have a wall or something to his back. It would help rid him of the pricking sensation at the back of his neck at any rate.

It wasn't easy, but he managed to draw himself up, balancing with difficulty on his uninjured foot and trying to keep the weight off the other as much as possible. He managed a couple of limping, not-quite steps towards the air-conditioning unit Kurt had pointed out earlier before he slipped and went down with a muffled yelp.

Brainiac 5 lay still for a moment, gritting his teeth at the pain and pointedly telling himself that he was not, under any circumstances, feeling ( ... )

In spite of Sebastian's avid attempt to not discomfort him with that stunt he pulled, Ciel still found himself incredibly nauseous and gripping onto the butler out of the brief terror that he might be dropped mid-jump onto a pile of zombies. He reluctantly let out a sigh of relief when they landed on the roof, thankful to be on solid ground ...or well, close to solid ground as Sebastian still hadn't done him the service of putting him down, something he hoped to rectify quickly ( ... )

A stunt indeed. Sebastian righted his twisted body again and gazed with cold eyes at the state of the rooftop. Abysmal, yes-- but marginally quieter, if the company were not just as obnoxious as the ones before.

A scream sounded, and Sebastian's eyes fell on a short, blond-haired boy with a thin frame and numerous wrapped injuries. He hardly seemed mobile, but none of that was Sebastian's concern until Ciel commanded. In a manner of speaking, his master's orders had been to first keep the boy from being eaten, and then put Master Ciel down...but Sebastian would give him the benefit of the doubt. It was unlikely that Master Ciel would look favorably upon being drenched in undead slime again, no matter how careful Sebastian was while making his blows to avoid it.

The butler set the noble down with a gentle but brisk motion of the arm before leaping into the air again, this time aiming with his heel. The boot's bottom came down with a loud crack on the red-haired zombie's skull, and Sebastian for a moment balanced with one leg, ( ... )

There was a flicker of movement out of the corner of his eye, but Brainiac 5 barely noticed, too focused on the monstrosity bearing down on him. Despite his experiences earlier that night, he was completely unprepared for the reality of walking corpses. He'd only caught glimpses while being carried by Peter, and then he hadn't been alone, had been able to focus beyond the situation and his own emotions at the time and behave almost as he might have back with the Legion ( ... )
