Day 42: Tasty Burger [Evening]

Okay, so it looked like there was no point in trying to get through a TV. It figured. It was either because their abilities were sealed off or the world inside the TV simply didn't exist here. It wouldn't have made much sense for the Head Doctor to bring them there when they had such an easy method of escaping/hiding out anyway. Yousuke told ( Read more... )

It had been a long day for Sylar, though it hadn't been a particularly interesting one. His unexpected meeting with Peter Petrelli the night before had been rudely been interrupted by some kind of fog and a sense of disorientation; the next thing he knew, he'd been waking up on the bus to Doyleton.

At least he was actually going this time, unlike other days when he'd been left in his room by the bastards due to "medical" reasons. Still, this was his second time in the town, which meant the novelty had worn off and the frustrating sensation of being just as trapped in a new environment was slowly sinking in. Worse still, it was much harder to keep an eye on his allies and enemies here than it was at the Institute; at least a claustrophobic setting meant that none of his targets could get away from him ( ... )

Even if they hadn't managed the most, um, coherent conversation known to man, Kibitoshin had still come away from his talk with Sechs on a high rather than a low. It was good to know that there were people here who were willing to help him, even if he sounded like someone's crazy-but-well-intentioned mother for all his worrying. One day he'd have to find some way of making it up to him.

Speaking of which, hadn't he agreed to meet one of the people who had saved the three of them last night here? Well, there was no point in wondering off now. Trading in his coupons for lunch (polished off rather quickly; easing his concern had clearly eased the block in his stomach) he spent the rest of the afternoon in the restaurant. Along with occasional checks at the grocer's, of course- after all, Trunks could have just missed that first message ( ... )

[Still has Leon with him, if that's alright!]

In theory, an establishment like this should have been something Haseo had been in before- it wasn't all that unusual from the sort of thing he may have found not far from where he worked, even if the food was probably a little different, but... as far as he could remember, he definitely had not. This was way too cheap-plastic and bad lighting. Like some sort of unspoken rule bound him to it, he paused yet again the moment he entered the building, frowning and looking around with his head lowered as if he expected ninjas to suddenly emerge from under the tables and engage him in battle. ... Clearly he needed more sleep or something ( ... )

Leon had followed Haseo out of a lack of anything better to do, but he hadn't realized the boy already had a meeting planned with someone. Should he leave? That wouldn't be all that polite either, would it? Just walking out as he started talking with someone else. No, he'd stick around. Maybe Haseo wanted back-up? Not that the young mage would be very threatening back-up at a time like this...

He nodded to the other man, determined not to look like he found the situation awkward. If this was all business, then he was all business. The other boy was still relatively new to this place. He might be able to offer information he wasn't aware of yet.

For the moment, he simply remained at Haseo's side and said nothing.

Next time they came here, he definitely had to find out what happened to Lady Esmerelda at the end of the book. It hadn’t been a very good book, true, but if there was one thing Kibitoshin hated having to do it was leaving things unfinish- oh! The person from last night was here!

"That's me. I'm sorry, I never got your name." Oh. Make that names. For a moment he blinked uncertainly at the other boy. He'd been there too last night, right? Well, two was just as good as one, although Kibitoshin couldn’t help but feel a little mean for not noticing him straight off. He didn't want to make him feel awkward or anything... in the end he settled on smiling pleasantly and nodding back at.

Taking a seat again, he wrung his hands embarrassedly on the table top. "Um... before anything, I just wanted to say that I'm really grateful for you and your friends helping us out. I kind of ended up getting in over my head and, well..." He gave a sheepish laugh and rubbed the back of his neck. "You saw how well that turned out."

Lockdown went over his mental to-do list even as he adjusted the green scarf his nurse had made him wear recently. Talk with Blitzwing over payment, check. Obtain lotion, check, with extra to spare. Chocolate bar tucked away in his jacket pocket, check. Unless the bounty hunter was missing something, he was done with his errands ( ... )

After he'd parted ways with Mr. Wright, Apollo had done his best to explore the rest of the town, but by the time all was said and done, it didn't feel like his search had been very productive. No phones, no law enforcement, no answers. Just how was he going to find a way out of here when there weren't any leads?

And that was just the tip of the iceberg. As if to make matters worse, a few trips to the bulletin had revealed that Kristoph Gavin was among the patients being held here. Kristoph Gavin! Prosecutor Gavin hadn't been joking when he'd said there were untrustworthy people here. Because if there was one convicted criminal here, there were bound to be others, right? It would have been kind of nice if the prosecutor had cued him in on Gavin's presence before Apollo had given himself away on the board, though ( ... )

Lockdown had gone through two fries before someone came down and asked to sit with him. He considered telling the other man to beat it, but then changed his mind when it became clear that the other man was nervous towards him. Oh, what the Pit? He was in a good mood and he liked it when others were scared of him. Would be a nice change from most of the smartafts around here.

"Yeah, go ahead," The bounty hunter replied. Smirking at the man, he added, "I don't bite."

"Oh, good," Apollo sighed in relief once he'd slid into his chair. As soon as the words left his mouth, however, he sat up a little straighter and rubbed the back of his head. "I-I mean, thank you!" At least he'd gotten an assurance that this man wouldn't bite his face off. That was a lot more than he'd ever received from most of the witnesses (and sometimes the clients) he dealt with back home. As long as they'd gotten that little detail cleared up, they'd probably be okay.

Besides, it wasn't like he hadn't talked to gangsters before. A man with some tattoos on his face shouldn't be too difficult, right?

"So, um..." Apollo began unwrapping his burger as he fished for something to talk about. Starting simple was likely best. "Did you come from Landel's Institute for the day, too?"

Mitsuru still felt uneasy. The day had been mostly uneventful up to now, and she'd even managed to get a manicure out of it, but perhaps she had that information of Junpei's to blame. Although she had been the one to ask in the first place ( ... )

"Hey, this coupon's just for the basic burger and fries, right?" And an ice cream too, it looked like. Hopefully that wouldn't melt too fast. He'd hate to have to scarf down the burger too quickly. (Though he might end up doing that anyway. He was starving.) The coupon was handed over to a tired looking employee and Yousuke waited somewhat impatiently for his meal to be brought out, only vaguely recognizing that there was someone else behind him - likely another patient.

He thanked the cashier as a tray was handed to him and turned to find a place to sit down, nearly running into Mitsuru as he did so. "Oops!" His soda was grabbed quickly before it could spill all over everything, and he gave her an embarrassed smile. "Hey, sorry about that. Guess you're next in line. I'll just... get out of your way here..." Balancing the tray carefully, he edged around her and made his way towards the nearest empty table.

Correction, she could watch and copy what he did, up until he nearly ran into her. She wasn't certain her reflexes would be quite as quick, and suspected that no one else in line would care to have her drink spilled all over them. She watched as he went to go take a seat, then stepped up to the counter. This seemed simple enough, but what sort of show of appreciation would be best once she received her food? Mitsuru wasn't certain ( ... )

Yousuke froze up in the middle of taking a large bite out of his burger. He couldn't keep himself from glancing from one side to the other as if he expected her to be talking to some other guy sitting at a table right next to his or something. It wasn't every day that an attractive girl you nearly spilt your drink all over would want to eat with you right after.

He set his burger down, chewing and swallowing the current mouthful. "Uh, yeah! I mean no! Go right ahead." Yousuke went so far as to dab his mouth off with a napkin after he said this. No way did he want to look like a complete slob to a stranger.

She had to be a patient. Most of the people roaming around town right now were. They stood out like a sore thumb. He took the napkin to his hands before holding one out to her. "Hanamura Yousuke. You're... visiting today too, right?"

[from here with fellow ninja in tow]

The place looked the same as Sai last remembered it, and he wasted no time in stepping right up to the counter and handing the cashier his coupon. "There are two others with me," he informed him, although it wasn't really necessary. It wasn't as though they had to reserve a table. "Is it possible for me to get a small salad instead of fries?"

Though the man looked a bit exasperated at the request, he allowed for the exchange anyway. Sai offered a smile in thanks but it went a bit unappreciated.

There appeared to be several other patients using this time to get in a quick meal before they were loaded onto the buses. He stayed to the side of the register after he'd made his order, allowing the other two room to step up and keeping an eye on Shikamaru at the same time.

The ordering method seemed simple enough, and now that Shikamaru was inside the restaurant, the smell of frying meat and whatever else they were cooking made him far more aware of how badly he needed to eat. When he approached the counter he had no special requests (food was food, unless it was boiled egg or something), and he slid the coupon silently across the counter, shutting out as many of the nearby voices as possible. Focusing was difficult enough without fragments of irrelevant conversation forcing their way into his consciousness. The guy behind the counter asked a couple questions and he nodded, not wasting energy on understanding them. He'd eat whatever they gave him, and hopefully, they'd give it to him soon.

Not knowing the status or location of the other Leaf-nin did make him uncomfortable, though, especially if things got dangerous. There was no point in bringing up the matter again, though...it sounded like Kakashi had some ideas, so they'd discuss it in a few minutes.

Kakashi had caught a glimpse of Sai's expression just as they came in, and for a moment, the look and the smell made even the jounin wonder if this had been a bad choice. It didn't take the nose of a nin-dog to catch the overwhelming smell of grease as soon as they where inside, and Kakashi had to hold back a sigh as he wondered just how much of this food was going to end up fried. Maybe it would have been worth it to walk the distance to the other restaurant ( ... )

As Kakashi talked, Sai got down a couple bites of salad. He swallowed before speaking. He'd expected the questions, which was why he'd brought up the notes to begin with, and already had his answers prepared (as much as he could, anyway, given what he expected to be asked ( ... )
