Day 42, Afternoon: Kitchin' Fixins'

Jul 07, 2009 08:20

[From here.]

After coming to an agreement it wasn't long before they set back out to search for some kind of 'supply store'. Of course, Sync would've scoffed if he had heard Dahlia's thoughts. Him? With a weapon? Anyone who knew the God-General well enough would know better than to think about something so absurd. No, this little trip was for ( Read more... )

[for Wonka]

As Beatrix had headed down the street, she thought she'd seen an older man head into a nearby shop. Still wishing to speak with the candy maker, more out of curiosity than any real thoughts that the man might be useful, she picked her pace up a bit and headed into the shop. A quick glance around told her she was in a kitchen supply store. She'd never really been adept at cooking - her skills lay in other areas - the Bride had no interest in the wares.

She moved through the displays to see if she'd been right and the man she saw coming inside was who she was looking for.

Meanwhile, Wonka - who had, indeed, entered the building a few minutes prior - was doing all he could not to laugh his high, flutey laugh at what he had found. Not only was this place a proper cooking supply store, with all the materials missing from the Institute kitchen, but it was a supply store from the future, with over thirty years of new technologies and methods for him to try out. All of this, combined with the fact that it was his first trip to a brick-and-mortar supplier since his retreat from society ten years ago, left him positively giddy, darting between the aisles like... well... a boy in a candy shop and waving at anyone who went past. Like that blond woman, who, come to think of it, seemed to have been given the same outfit as him. Huh.

Turning a corner, Beatrix spotted the man. Grey hair, similarly dressed, huge smile and looked like he was about to float into the air.

And waving at her...

"Excuse me," she called as she made her way toward the man. "Are you Wonka, by chance?"

Wonka skidded to a halt. "Is that my soul which calls me by my name?" he said in a quiet, sing-song voice, and whirled around to face the woman he'd just passed. "Quite right, my dear!" Skipping back along his path to where she was standing, he added, "And to whom do I have the pleasure of speaking? I don't think we've met, just yet."

"O-okay..." She still held a disturbed look on her face, like the idea of having to kill things to stay alive was foreign. Ha! If anything, she'd taken out more people in her way than Sy-Sweetie over here has taken out bugs!

But a knife or something like that would be too obvious, wouldn't it? There was no way they'd let her take away something they could perceive as being dangerous, even with the go-ahead of the store owners. She had to find something inconspicuous...

Hm... Ah! "Oh, look!" She rushed to one of the shelves and picked up a small spice bottle (rosemary? She really didn't care about what was inside it), showing it off to Sync with a bright expression on her face. Just the sort of thing she was looking for, really. "Isn't this so adorable? I love this..."

There had to be a chemical supply closet somewhere. Once she could get away from this twerp in the night, she'd find it and make use of this thing.

Sync wished he could just smack that look right off her face. Women were too soft in his opinion; didn't she know that arming herself was one of the most important things anyone could do in this godforsaken place?

He quietly followed her through the store, trying to look interested when she suddenly rushed off to one of the shelves.

"Ah, it is," The God-General spoke up when he finally saw what she was holding, smiling softly before reaching over and picking up another spice bottle for himself.

To be honest, he didn't really see what use something like that would have, though that may have been because improvising like this wasn't his forte.

"Is that what you're going to get...?" He asked, looking at her curiously.

Of course he couldn't see what she'd use it for; he was an idiot. Dahlia just looked up at him with a confused expression, like she really didn't get what he was asking her. "Is there something wrong with it?"

"Oh no, there's nothing wrong," Sync immediately replied, trying his best to look apologetic for making her think that he actually had anything to protest about.

After all, if she wanted to die that badly, then he certainly wouldn't stop her.

This also made the job of sneaking it out much easier considering how small it was, though he could only hope that she wasn't expecting that they actually pay for it.

"Is there anything else you'd like to look at?"
