As much as Skuld wanted to go have a milkshake now, she knew it was better to wait until late in the day so the extra strength stayed with her. So, she was left walking around, trying to think of something to do until then.
When she saw the boy--maybe about her age now?--pacing like that, her own steps slowed. She didn't know him, but it was obvious something was wrong, and sometimes all people needed was someone reaching out to them.
Stopping a few steps away, almost within reach but not quite, she asked, "Um... are you okay?"
"He usually just - I dunno, he does what he does and I can't remember what happens while he's doing it." Jamie knew he was doing a poor job of explaining this, but it wasn't something he entirely understood, himself. "There's times when I...wul. Panic. And that's - that panic...'s the last thing I remember before I...wake up, somewhere else. And afterwards people tell me about stuff that I did that I don't remember doing." His voice dropped as he explained until it was little more than a low murmur. In his head, Wild Eagle ceased his agitated noise-making, reflecting a tumult of emotions - surprise, confusion, a certain disquiet. Jamie got the distinct impression that he didn't like what he was hearing
( ... )
Well, Skuld had heard about that kind of thing happening before... if mostly on TV. "What's he like?" Hopefully, the kind of things Eagle was known for doing wasn't anything bad and Jamie was just worried because this had never happened to them before. I hope he's known Eagle's there for more than just a day or two...
She still wanted to talk to Eagle directly (especially since that way Jamie couldn't censor him), but she'd wait and see if he took over on his own before she tried anything herself.
"He's...wul. I don't really know," Jamie admitted, shifting uneasily. "He's a way better pilot than I am. And he's really pushy." Jamie frowned in mild annoyance, and Wild Eagle mentally scowled right back at him.
I'm PUSHY because I'm stuck someplace I ain't supposed to be, he said irritably. I bet you'd be too 'f you were the one stuck here. Wherever HERE is. Am I seriously in your head or whatever?
"Yeah, you are," Jamie muttered back. "At least that's what it feels like." He glanced at Skuld, looking worried and a little embarrassed. "He, um. He says he's...stuck. That he's not supposed to be...here." He made an aimless gesture that might've indicated the world at large or Jamie's head in particular. "He's...kinda pissed."
Skuld could definitely sympathize with the being trapped and being pissed about it.
"Does he remember the same things you do, or just what you don't?" she asked, trying to get a better understanding of the situation. She still wanted to talk to Eagle directly, but saw no point in asking again; if he could take over, he'd do it on his own. And obviously very shortly.
'f I could remember everything he does, d'you think I'd be so friggin' confused about what's goin' on right now? Eagle retorted. Jamie grimaced a little and relayed this to Skuld: "Um. He says no, he doesn't remember anything I do. Just the stuff that happens when I...go away." He said this last in an uneasy undertone.
Jamie got the impression, then, that Wild Eagle was mulling this over. How's that work, anyway? Shouldn't you be...goin' away now 'f I'm here? There came the bizarre sensation of the edges of his mind being prodded at. C'mon, go away. 'm sick of bein' stuck up here.
Jamie twitched in protest, one hand flicking up almost reflexively to swat at a spot beside his head. "Ghh! I don't need you t - he's trying to...come out or whatever," he said, breaking off mid-sentence to address Skuld in another panicked hiss, as though lowering his tone might keep Eagle from hearing him.
"I think you can let him take control without... um, going away," Skuld suggested. She got the impression Eagle wanted to be up front, and she still wanted to talk to him even if he couldn't tell her any more than Jamie could.
Her main motivation? Getting information out of the relatively calm one.
At this suggestion, Jamie looked uncertain, even a little nervous. "I don't - " he started to say, then paused, chewing his lip in agitated contemplation. "I've never...done it this way before. I don't know how to - let him." He wasn't sure he was making any sense, but then this wasn't an easy thing to explain. "I mean usually I don't have any control over it. It just...happens."
Then lemme handle it, Eagle said, irritated. I know I c'n get the hang of it 'f you just gimme a sec. More mental prodding, at which Jamie winced.

"Can he talk to me?" She was still convinced Eagle would have a better idea what was going on than his other self.
