[From here]Up and up and up he went, taking the stairs in a Fibonaccian sequence until he had to admit he couldn't leap 8 steps at a time and had to settle for fluttering back and forth between the first four prime numbers

Suzaku's flashlight didn't illuminate anything that looked ready to eat them, but once again it seemed that most of the monsters had an uncanny ability to surprise people. And if Lelouch had wanted Suzaku to go first, even in the middle of a conversation about how he could take care of himself, then Suzaku was duty-bound to be as cautious as possible. He'd always been awful at protecting people properly, but he was still going to throw everything he had into the attempt.
"It wasn't just one meal," Suzaku replied smoothly. Not even an irritated Lelouch could put him off course once he'd set his mind to something. It didn't matter what his reasons were, or even if it was a little ridiculous -- he was determined to look after Lelouch, whatever that might entail. Suzaku normally wouldn't bother himself with stupid little details like how well Lelouch ate, but the Prince already been injured and there was the possibility of physical conflict at night, so he needed to keep his strength up. "And who are you going to get to try me? But I believe you. If you keep your promise I'll abdicate from the Nanny of Honor position."
Admittedly, his mind was only half on the conversation; all his senses were on high alert, trying to discern any hostile presences in the gloom and simultaneously keeping track of Lelouch's every movement behind him. He reached the top of the stairs quickly enough, however, and with a wary glance into the hallway, led the way out of the stairwell.
He didn’t have a reason to linger around in one place for too long--he’d know what Leon was getting up to once he took a look around with his second sight. For now, though, the doll kept a lid on his ability and travelled further down the hall until he reached the other side of the building and the third stairwell located there.
It probably wouldn’t make a difference, constantly climbing up that particular one to get where he wanted to go instead of running around too much on the second floor, but he took it anyway, casting a look behind him as he climbed the first few stairs. Nothing.
Matt made sure he wasn't ascending the staircase until the two young men he was following were already near the top. Sound would carry better here, but it would work both ways. If he followed too closely, it would become incredibly obvious.
Still, he was starting to be able to pick up bits of what they were saying, and it wasn't interesting in the least. They obviously knew each other from before their arrival, but that wouldn't be news of any great importance. This other man must have been the one from the bulletin before.
"Onmyoujutsu," he repeated as they started up the stairs. The name sounded familiar, but for him, spells came easily, without any need for rituals. He kept smiling all the same.
"That's alright. That's what I'm here for, right?" he called over his shoulder as they reached the top of the stairs.
The vampire thought it best to take the lead at that point in their quest, and that was exactly what he did. As ever, the thought of having a body in between him and something barrelling towards them from the front was not comforting, but displeasing. He wasn’t a follower here.
As he started up, he remained silent, letting the soft scudding of his footfalls speak for themselves.
Sasuke caught the distinct sound of Aidou moving to take the lead, something familiar enough by now that he couldn't be bothered to be, well, bothered by it. Even if this was still area that Sasuke knew well enough to not particularly need guidance, it was obvious that Aidou had dominance issues. When it came down to it, Sasuke preferred to be in the lead himself, but if he could avoid unnecessary conflict between allies (especially on a night like this, when speed was of importance), he could ignore it.
Even if the blindness continued to rankle. Another grievance to hold against Landel.

Shrugging, the doll continued up. Halfway there.
