Day 41: Men's Showers (4th shift)

May 22, 2009 16:42

Scar had realized it during the announcement after breakfast, and he had proceeded to create reluctance for it during the whole day, right until this very moment. Today was shower day. Shower dayThe staff had to practically drag their charge into the damp rooms after lunch. Had he been in the possession of his old nails, he would have stubbornly ( Read more... )

Getting clean sounded wonderful. Taking off his clothes around so many other men still didn't appeal to him, but Armand only needed to touch his hair to know that he was dirty and needed to do it, whether he liked it or not. He left his worn clothes in a heap and searched the still mostly empty shower room for a friend. He didn't see anyone right away, so he ducked his head under the water of the closest shower head. Hopefully, at least one the spots next to him would be taken by a friend. If not, he'd just have to hurry and escape to the Sun Room. He needed to leave a note or two on the bulletin board and see if Citan had found any work for them.

[OOC: Closed to Alec Trevelyan, then Armand is going to the Sun Room.]

Lunch had been weird. Incredibly so. Had that really been James, or was Alec's mind playing tricks on him? The fact that it was shower day barely fazed him. He needed a blast of cold water to practically annihilate his head so he could think clearly.

He found himself hustled into a shower stall next to Armand. "Hello," he said, and turned the water pressure up as much as the patient-proof showerheads would allow.

Armand was horribly distracted, but he was glad to see a friendly face. "Hello, Alec," he replied with some semblance of cheer. "You look as if you've seen a ghost." It was not perhaps the most prudent thing to say to Alec, but Armand was feeling a bit... full of something since his talk with the two men at lunch. It had felt good to get his point across, though now he was plagued with nerves over it all over again. At least, he knew most of Alec's prickly spots. And personal information of any sort was high on the list.

The water pounded on his head, plastering his hair straight down to his scalp like nothing but torrential downpours could. He almost didn't hear Armand's greeting. He heard enough. "Not exactly," he murmured. Louder, "It's been an interesting day." He turned more towards the man who was probably the closest thing he had here to a friend. "I suppose you've had a day of it, too." Not a question, so Armand could refuse to answer if he would.

It really felt like it had been a while since the last time they had been given the chance to shower, and while Guy normally had no problem with partaking, he wasn't too eager when he still had a fresh wound right near his hip ( ... )

Communal showers were something Van was used to after years in the military, though (fortunately) it had been a long time since he last had to endure it. It did seem strange for a supposed hospital to have them. But of course, the faculty felt the need to encourage patient interaction as much as humanly possible. Why waste an opportunity to make friends by showering alone?

If crude jokes about one's size and prowess with women counted, perhaps he could understand that line of thought. As it was now, Van only hope no-one would attempt to be 'friendly' while he was here. All he would want would be to clean up and continue on with his uneventful day as-

Guy was here as well.

Van immediately stopped, looking to make sure that it was his former lord and not some other young, blond man. And it was Guy, there was no mistaking that now, even if his posture was different than usual. He didn't want to try and look too closely at the injury that caused that however ( ... )

Just as Guy was getting ready to get under the water and start washing himself, he heard a voice from behind him that caused his body to instinctively tense up, his shoulders straightening and his hands clenching into fists.

It wasn't like he hadn't known that Van was here. Luke had told him a while ago, and Guy had just continued to avoid dealing with it. He hadn't expected Van to come speak to him, though maybe he should have. The Commandant usually didn't have too many qualms about such things.

Slowly, Guy forced himself to loosen up and then turn around to stare the man in the face. He still didn't know what category Van fell into: old friend, sworn enemy, or something else? About the only thing he did know was that the man couldn't be trusted ( ... )

This likely was an awkward time for this sort of conversation, but so long as neither of them looked down it shouldn't be too awkward...Hopefully.

"I assume you knew I was here?" It was likely that the replica had already spoken with Guy and told him of his presence here. Guy had meant to speak with him of course, but simply held it off. Most likely because he must've been difficult to find in such a large institution, but Van still couldn't help but think that Guy had purposefully delayed their meeting. After all that happened, Guy was going farther and farther out of his reach. The likelihood that he would be able to convince his former lord to see reason, while he was still so attached to the replica, seemed slim.

Regardless, there wasn't much point in dwelling on matters like that now. Perhaps there still was a chance for Guy. "Might I ask how long you've been in this place?"

Hughes didn't think that his nurse could have given him better news than that they were showering. He felt disgusting. He was reaching battle-zone levels of filthy and the chance to wash it all off was practically heaven sent.

Handing over his clothes and his glasses, Hughes made his way to an open showerhead and turned it on. He'd be getting a report from Celes later, Cooking Club was still going alright, and all in all it looked like his short sick-leave hadn't caused too much of a problem.

Now if they could just make some progress....

Going the rest of his meal with coleslaw in his hair hadn't been the worst thing he'd ever endured, but he wasn't keen on smelling like cabbage all day. Was this going to be some kind of trend? Was he always going to have some foul-smelling plant life to wash out of his hair?

Showers weren't particularly traumatic. Teisel had never really learned to be body shy, and as far as he was concerned he had no reason to be. Passing by one of the mirrors, however, he caught sight of something that gave him pause. Zex had left marks, and whatever stupid, worthless voodoo healed injuries overnight apparently didn't do a thing about bruises. That was just great. It was a good thing he'd wrapped his hair around his neck earlier, after all. The cafeteria wasn't particularly bright, but they sure as hell would have shown up in the sun. Well, whatever. It wasn't likely that anyone would dare say anything about it, anyway ( ... )

"N-No! I s-swear I don't need a shower!" Grell gripped the edge of the door to the dressing room as hard as he could with a sprained finger and yelped when the nurse tugged on him again. "I don't need one! You can't make me go!"

"Mr. Burnett, this is hardly acceptable behavior! Let go of the door at once!"

Another tug and a pained yelp later, Grell found himself stripped and thrown into the horror that was public showers yet again. Why on God's green earth did humans subject themselves to this?! It was indecent and unacceptable for a lady to be showering with men and only worse that it was him who had to suffer for it. Didn't they realize he had delicate sensibilities? Taking a look around the room, he flushed bright red and started for the door again, only to run full force into a wall of nurse. The woman glared at him, pointing a finger toward the showers and Grell balked, hung his head, and did as he was told ( ... )

"Oh, thanks. This stuff really gets everywhere, y'know?" Sure enough, there was a little glob of soggy cabbage on his shoulder. Flicking it off, Teisel raked his soaking hair out of his face to look at his helpful neighbor. Sutcliff, was it? Something like that.

"Say, you're that butler, aren't you? What's the matter, water too cold?" Sutcliff looked downright dejected. Teisel would have thought that a butler would enjoy bathing. They liked things to be clean and orderly, didn't they? Wasn't that sort of their job, or something? Leaving aside his musings on what it was that domestic servants actually did when they weren't bringing people drinks on those nifty little silver trays, Teisel got some of shampoo from the pump and started working it through the lower third of his hair. This would take a while.

Grell really did know, but he didn't want to talk about it. A few too many mishaps in the kitchen had all but scarred him - once quite literally - and he wasn't about to venture back there if he could help it. Of course, he wished he weren't stuck in a communal shower either, but he really had no choice in the matter. Grabbing the soap, Grell stepped out of the spray of water long enough to lather up his cloth and then started washing, keeping most of himself hidden. He hated being this exposed. It was positively indecent!

But Teisel was talking, wasn't he? Bother. "Ah-yes... I'm the butler. Grell Sutcliff, Mr. Bonne." Fidgeting slightly as he tried to both hide himself and get clean at the same time without drowning under the spray of water, the death god sighed. "And no, it's not the water. I'm unaccustomed to doing this sort of thing in...public. Doesn't it bother you any?"

The showers. Lockdown liked the sound of that. He hadn't really cleaned himself up since he got here, and a shower would do him a lot of good. No telling what kind of things he had picked up here, and a shower might even help relax him.

However, upon arriving at the cleansing area, the bounty hunter got a few surprises. For one thing, it looked like everyone had to shower together. Lockdown had showered with others before, but it was usually just him and one other mech. Did he have to get clean with all these humans? Lockdown growled at the thought. He thought about just leaving, but for one, it looked like they wouldn't let him out, and second, he really did feel the need for a shower ( ... )

Despite feeling kinda ugly as a human, Ryuk liked the showers. Anyway, he didn't have anything to be ashamed of. They all had the same sort of anatomy in here. Just...different shapes and sizes and that sorta thing.

So, he was quite comfortable as he strode in and found himself a spot. He never really showered before. Never had to. But it was pretty fun.

He looked at the names of those nearby and found another one of the weird ones. Not just his name, his face too. He could kinda look like a Shinigami maybe.

"Hey," he grinned. "Kinda like some of these human rituals."

The water finally warmed up after a few kliks, and Lockdown stood under the spray once more. He had to admit, the warm water did feel quite nice against his exposed body. He held his face up into the spray, running his hands through his hair, now damp and hanging loosely.

He felt like rolling his optics when an inmate addressed him. He looked over at the human. Now this one looked stranger than any of the others he had met. The yellow human-optics didn't seem that strange to him, since he'd seen plenty of Transformers with that optic color, but the teeth were another story. No other human he'd ever seen had teeth that sharp. Then again, the man had made it rather obvious that he wasn't human (orginally human, he should have said) just from what he had said.

"Yeah, whatever," Lockdown murmured to him, before noticing the labeled dispensers on the wall. He knew what 'soap' was, but what were 'shampoo' and 'conditioner'?

Wow, friendly guy. Ryuk was wishing he looked scary, but then he wasn't sure how scary looked to aliens and whatever. Actually. This guy probably looked scary in his own way. Not to Ryuk! No way. To humans.

"Those eyes natural?"

He looked at the bottles. "Oh, hey. Like the adverts. Only there's no lady in a bikini or anything." He picked one of his own up and inspected it. "It's the shampoo first, right....?"
