Nightshift 40: Recreational Field

It probably wasn't the safest route, but it was a shorter distance.

Yuuhi pushed the door open out into the cold night air and stayed close to the building.  He kept the flashlight off, not wanting to attract any extra attention.  The door wasn't far, so it shouldn't be too much trouble to walk quickly and quietly back inside.

Akihiko looked up, trying to get a read on the moon's phase, but there were too many clouds around, obscuring the view. Damn. I'd feel better if we knew one way or the other whether there was a full moon tonight.

Once they were next to the wall, he nodded. "Okay. What do we need to watch out for?"

They may have only just started, but Yukari didn't think it was too early to have 'so far, so good' cross her mind; this was one area that she heard often had monsters in it, but right now, it was... empty. They must have been pretty quick tonight for nobody to be out here yet.

The vacancy just made it all the more creepier though, and in an attempt to suppress a shudder Yukari huddled her arms around herself, eyes following Akihiko's up towards the sky, albeit not for the same reasons he had. It didn't look like there would be any stars tonight.

"-- Oh, right," she began absentmindedly, her attention snapping back into place. "It was mostly stuff like it's hard to see out there, and the monsters were really tough. There's apparently a forest out there somewhere, and to the east of here a town in ruin... I don't know how close by it is, though. That's more or less all I got."

Taking the back down off his shoulder, Junpei had moved to the front once they'd entered the rec field. His eyes scanned the area, looking for Evil Koro-chans and whatnot. Nothing. He also cast an idle glance upwards, but that was more for giant birds than the moon or stars.

"The town sounds interesting; we might be able to find something that'll at least tell us where we are there," Junpei commented. He headed to the wall and, after fumbling with the bat a bit, grabbed the vines and pulled himself up onto it. He held a hand down for Yukari to grab onto.

"Upsie-daisies, Yuka-tan."

"Yeah, I agree. All right, we'll shoot for that," he said with a nod. "If nothing else, we can maybe see what happened there. It might give us a clue to why we're here."

Well, it was good that he didn't need to tell Junpei to head up first. He crouched down, and careful to look the other way, cupped his hands so he could give Yukari a boost up if she needed it. "Ready?"

Lockdown shivered when he stepped into the cold night air. Curse this pathetic body. Can't even control its own temperature.

The bounty hunter began walking around the grounds, keeping an optic open. He walked over to one of the nets bound between a metal frame. Perhaps if he could find a way to cut the net down, it would make a decent enough weapon or trap.

Scar had found the way to the recreational field quickly, not that such was all that difficult to accomplish. Even the most brainless patient could do this, most likely ( ... )

When Lockdown heard the voice behind him, he immediately whipped around and instinctively poised into a Metallikato fighting stance.

The one who approached him was an older-looking human, with dark hair and skin, green human-optics, and a scar across his left human-optic. He didn't look too dangerous, but Lockdown did not allow himself to relax. Experience had told him not to get careless or be decieved by appearances.

Lockdown narrowed his optics at the man. "'Special Counseling patients'? What are you talking about, flesh creature?" Probably something that he was ignorant of, since he had only been here a few days.

"Flesh creature, hmmm?" Scar answered. Maybe this person was a similar case as his roommate was, even though the King couldn't quite understand. All he knew was that unlike humans and animals, these creatures were not organic. Interesting...

What was also interesting that this individual wasn't familiar with Special Counseling. This suggested that the man happened to be rather new around here. Just his luck ( ... )

Recluse waited in the building's shadows, watching for Marcus. All was quiet, for now. And it had better stay that way out here. He wanted to get things done tonight.

There was Stefan, waiting in the shadows, and wearing a very obviously Arachnos uniform. It wasn't the same as his armor, but it still made Marcus scowl at him. For all Stefan's show of improving and moving away from his evil tendencies, this was a huge reminder that it was only a temporary change, and that Marcus still needed to watch his back around Lord Recluse.

"Stefan. Are you ready?"

Finally. Recluse had been beginning to wonder whether Marcus would ever show up. "I am. Do you need any weapons? I brought extra." Just in case. And it wasn't as if the weight would ever slow him down.

"No, I brought mine," Marcus said. He preferred to use his fists but that just wouldn't be a viable option against some of the things they might encounter here, not with his powers mostly gone. Mostly, but not entirely. Stefan claimed to have lost all of his, and his appearance was for the most part back to normal.

Stefan's eyes were still red and glowing, so Marcus had to wonder if he was holding his remaining powers in reserve until he could use them to gain the upper hand. Though since Stefan also didn't know the extent to which Marcus had retained his powers it was unlikely he'd make a move. Hopefully Marcus could keep the full extent of his remaining powers from Stefan. It would be safer that way.

Suzaku stepped through and held the door out to Dean, without looking behind him. He scanned the area in front of them with his flashlight, all senses on full alert, but there still didn't appear to be any immediate danger. Now they just had to get across the field without getting attacked by giant, rotting birds or whatever, and then he'd have a weapon in hand. The idea was sounding better by the moment.

Dean nodded a thanks to Suzaku, having cheerfully ignored their little exchange - well, more like bitching at each other, you'd think they were a married couple or something - and instead scanned the area. There were a few other patients out here already, and while he kept an eye on them in case they made any moves he interpreted as threatening to the boys, he was also on the lookout for anything that was more up his alley. Tonight there was no sign of that weird, bone-chillingly cold fog that he'd run into the other night, which he took as a good sign. No witches and their bullcrap to deal with, and while he'd always be up for a good, old fashioned witch hunt, it wasn't exactly fun when you couldn't even see two feet in front of your face ( ... )

Suzaku felt slightly mollified at Lelouch's acknowledgement, enough that he no longer had any rational reason to be irritated. The measure they were taking was strategically the best, and the goal they were working towards would make up for it, when they got all these people home and went back and fixed their own world. But there was this niggling agitation in his mind, tensing his shoulders with discomfort that he couldn't quite dispel. And of course there was, because even if this was the best solution, that didn't mean that using Geass wasn't wrong. That would never change, even if it was used for the right reasons ( ... )
