Well, that was... special. No wonder he was losing respect for this place--the fearful Martin Landel was coming undone, most probably with boredom. So scary. The strain from the prior shift was clearly evident on Endrance's face. For once, his nurse decided not to push going outside on him a second time; she allowed him to rest in the Sun Room, and he took that chance with only a silent nod in reply.

He sank down on one of the couches near the windows, and was surprised when not a moment later, he felt something small jump onto the couch next to him. He looked down and was shocked to see what appeared to be the same cat from the night before - white with dark-tipped ears, the spitting image of the smaller, frailer Mia - rubbing against his arm and purring.

"You..." Endrance trailed off, the words catching in his throat. He swallowed hard, just as the cat jumped into his lap and curled into a ball.

It was all he could do to look at her, really.

"Kira..." Endrance thought back, but a moment later had to admit, "You're right...I don't remember a Kira, and you probably don't remember the Second Network Crisis...and I certainly don't remember any murderer trying to pass himself as a god." The concept was frightening, and it likely showed in his eyes.

"It sounds like it was a...strange year all the way around," he said. "So many strange and frightening things..."

"Well, it's not really just this year." Matt frowned, thinking back. "He's been around for the past few." And people were scared to death of breaking any laws because it could mean instant death if you were reported. Far too much to go into with this random kid.

"Just always the major news story, you know?"

"The past few years, before 2010..." Endrance repeated the words to himself, as if doing so would stir up some kind of memory relating to the subject. He remembered his childhood, of course, and had been a child at the time Pluto's Kiss had hit. He remembered that, and the chaos it had caused throughout the world, but nothing at all regarding any kind of serial killer.

"I see," he finally said. "Was it always death, then, that this Kira caused? Not comatose states...?"

Matt nodded. "Just death. Nothing fancier." The method of death could be left out of the conversation for now. There were some details that were best not gone into in an open area like this.

"Oh," he seemed to catch himself. "And I wouldn't go talking about this with just anyone. Not the safest of topics, really." Mello would have gotten onto him for it, but Mello wasn't there.
