Nightshift 39: Doctor's Office 7 (Dr. Suresh)

[from here]If it was possible, this room was plainer than the other offices Brooklyn had been in while down this hallway. The only real distinguishing feature was the large map stuck to a billboard on one wall. Otherwise it was just bookcases, lamps, and the desk with a computer in the center. He wondered if the man simply hadn't added any more ( Read more... )

Peter felt bad that Brooklyn had taken to breaking down the door all by himself, but the kid was obviously practiced in doing it. Peter was also too busy digesting what Nate had said to worry too much about it, turning it over in his mind as he entered the office.

He wasn't about to argue that having Mohinder here was weird, but he did have to wonder why it was him of all people who ended up with a friend as a doctor here. Well, maybe Mohinder didn't count as a friend, necessarily, but the two of them had discussed some pretty sensitive topics in the past.

"Well, we've spoken a few times, at length, about... well, about some pretty important stuff," he explained as he looked around the office once again. He wasn't surprised to see that map here, and was actually kind of interested in checking it out, seeing how he'd never gotten the chance to give it a close look before. But then he noticed the book Brooklyn was holding and stalked over. "Can I see that?" he asked, doing his best to not sound demanding.

The room seemed relatively unchanged from when Near had been in there only a few hours prior. Unlike Brooklyn and Peter, the boy stayed at the doorway at first, observing both his surroundings and the people within. That Brooklyn went to the bookshelf seemed ordinary. However, Peter's following, and his thinly-veiled interest in the volume the gargoyle had picked out were noteworthy ( ... )

Brooklyn blinked as Peter asked to see the book. "Uh... sure." He handed it over without further argument, figuring his friend had a good enough reason. When Nate started to pry further, the gargoyle frowned at the shorter boy. Surely he didn't have to act like a detective every minute of the day.

"Hey, it's no big deal," he argued. Mohinder was someone Peter knew. It was okay with him if he didn't want to immediately go telling them everything he knew about him. This was Peter's search, as far as he was concerned, even though Nate had similar plans. Perhaps that wasn't approaching this situation from the right angle, but that's how he felt nonetheless. "And it's not like it's the only copy anyway." He pointed to the shelf, where a second had been placed right next to it.

As Peter took the book, he was preparing to crack it open and see if there were any weird changes between it and the real thing, but before he could even get that far, Nate started throwing what seemed to be accusations at him ( ... )
