Dayshift 39: Lunch

Feb 23, 2009 04:29

That had been a very interesting shift, Miku decided as she was wheeled around. Not only for making a new friend in Endrance (well, perhaps not friend, but very kind acquaintance), but for the overload of unwanted information from the bulletin. It was enough to make her want to hide until there was no chance of a blush ever forming on her face (and ( Read more... )

Utena went into the cafeteria feeling more hopeful. She hadn't been able to see Himemiya in the crowded Sun Room, unfortunately, but she had gotten replies from her on the bulletin board at least. The replies were promising, too; it seemed that Himemiya might actually be willing to believe that Utena wasn't just an illusion the the next time they met. Despite the overwhelming situation they were all in, Utena couldn't help but keep smiling wide with relief at that thought ( ... )

That man had been so nice! But, he hadn't gotten his name. Asking his nurse had gotten him his 'fake' name, but Bridget couldn't go off of that. That would be rude. But making new friends had been fun, so .... Getting a few slices of pizza (and a salad at his nurses urging), Bridget looked around for someone he didn't know.

Wait.... Pink hair? Was it...? He walked quickly over (he didn't want to run and trip and drop his food or Roger after all), and sort of deflated when the girl turned out to have both her arms and eyes. Still! It was someone he didn't know!

"Hi," he chirped brightly, setting his tray and stuffed bear down. "May I sit with you?"

Utena had been surprised to see someone hurrying over toward her so quickly. Was it someone else from Ohtori? From the blonde hair and the height it could be Tsuwabuki. As the person got closer, however, it became apparent to her that it was no one she knew, unless she had her own young, blonde stalker to go with Nanami's and she simply hadn't known it yet.

She smiled kindly as the girl (it was it a boy? Utena couldn't quite tell; she/he looked even more gender-ambiguous than Naoto). "Go right ahead! Good company's always welcome," she said, gesturing toward the seat across from her. "I'm Utena Tenjou. Nice to meet you."

Sitting down, Bridget carefully set Roger in his lap and grinned. "Thank you so much Miss Tenjou." My, there were a lot of Japanese here! It was amazing! He couldn't wait to tell everyone if when he got home.

"I'm Bridget. It's very nice to meet you too. Have you been here long?"

Ophelia was pleased to feel that the drugs weren't nearly as strong as they had been before. She was still feeling slightly sluggish and tired, which was a virtually alien feeling for a Claymore most of the time, but it was better than feeling as though she could barely lift her own weight, at least. The shift she had just spent toying with Soubi had served as a small pick-me-up as well ( ... )

The conversation with Homura had proven to be quite enlightening, and Callisto was in a good mood when she strode into the cafeteria. She wasn't so sure about the cheese-covered mess they were serving once she arrived, but it all seemed to hold together well enough so she figured she'd give it a try. She even grabbed more than one variety, just to give it a try. It was almost possible to forget about the failure the night before.

Almost.

Something, or rather someone, else caught her eye as she was searching for a seat. Ophelia, after throwing quite the fit during breakfast, was now seated by herself. Callisto grinned, making her way over. The poor thing was certain to still be a bit woozy.

"Good afternoon," she greeted. "Meet an old friend this morning?"

So much for the hopes of a meal alone. She didn't have much against Callisto from the shift they had spent together on the first day, but the tone the other woman used was certainly meant to rub her the wrong way. "How astoundingly observant of you," she remarked with an annoyed huff, wondering how far Callisto intended to push this.

Callisto wasn't at all bothered by the woman's tone, and she shrugged her shoulders, still smiling. Of course with the ruckus they'd made, most of the patients in the cafeteria had probably noticed the struggle.

"That woman seemed like quite the pansy," she pointed out, recalling what she'd seen of the other blonde after they'd been separated. "I just assumed she deserved it."

"I cannot-"

Siegfried began to speak before he even realised where he was. Not in the hallway, back in his room. Blearily he sat up, trying to adjust to the sudden loss of time. The intercom chimed and the Head Doctor spoke of therapy and…lunch? Just how long had he been asleep? Half the day it appeared. He could not make a habit of that.

The nurse soon arrived after the intercom message ended and scolded him gently for sleeping so long before she took him to the cafeteria.

Siegfried quickly got his lunch and sat down at a table. He began to absently eat the pizza whilst his mind was pondering the therapy sessions that had been mentioned. Would he be taken this time? He wondered just how much the pink-haired doctor would be willing to tell him, and how much of it would be lies.

Starscream's central processor continued to properly parse his encounter with GLaDOS. It was difficult to reconcile her identity - or at least, what he perceived as her identity - with her attitude; never before had he met something with quite the same level of sadism. True, Bruticus seemed to revel in the devastation he could cause, but that was a side-effect of the gestalt technology Starscream had built into his Combaticons. This was a true desire to watch flesh-creatures squirm for amusement's sake, and while he could care less for the fates of the humans under her 'guardianship', the attitude itself disturbed him greatly ( ... )

Siegfried chewed slowly on his pizza, a frown on his face, and his concentration elsewhere. He was busy thinking about the therapy next shift, planning what he would ask. He new he had to find out more about his ‘real’ life, but was not sure what questions he should ask, or which would get him the best answers.

As deep in thought as he was, it was difficult not to notice another tray being placed on the table. Siegfried looked up at the newcomer as he spoke, noting the man’s slightly strange way of speaking.

“Not at all.”

Starscream nodded with a smile, sliding into his chair and quickly reaching for the eating implement...'fork', if he recalled correctly. He looked at it confusedly for a moment; glancing about, he noticed other 'patients' using it to spear their foods and place them into their oral cavities. Carefully piercing one of the leaves in his salad, the Decepticon brought it to his mouth slowly, pulling the lettuce from the fork with his teeth and chewing slowly. The taste was...different, but something he felt he'd get used to.

"Tell me," he said after a few mouthfuls (indeed, he managed to spit out a small chunk of cottage cheese a few inches in front of his tray), "what is your name? Have you been here long?"

Soubi was led away from Ophelia feeling worse still. He didn't listen to the nurse and showed little interest in Lunch, so she took it upon herself to fill his tray and push him to a seat next to some wheelchair bound fool.

"Here you go, Hiro. Maybe you'll cheer up if you talk to your friend?" she said, though her tone suggested she didn't care either way.

Soubi was going to object to the idea of random patients being his 'friends' when he caught sight of who this person was. And then he wanted to object even more.

Instead, he just stared at Kio with a look that could kill. And possibly intended to.

Soubi almost, and very childishly, wished the nurse hadn't been in charge of his tray. He'd have liked to have dropped it noisily on the table. It was far too late to pick it up and do it now.

He looked at the wheelchair again. He wasn't going to be fooled by such things. He couldn't allow guilt to get in the way. But what state was Ritsuka in? No. They both seemed fine on the board. He wasn't going to be distracted.

He sat down at Kio's suggestion, but his body seemed set and ready to leave at any moment. He continued to look into his- into Kio's eyes.

"Why was it so important to take that file? What was so important that you'd lie to Ritsuka?" Kio had put yet another dent between Soubi and Ritsuka. Things kept getting better between them and then they'd crumble so easily. Soubi couldn't afford things like this.

Sometimes, it took new patients a few days to understand the limits of the institute, so the nurse stationed by the door didn't show any hint of ill will when she stepped in front of the young man. "I'm afraid that all of the patients eat together," she said with a small and sympathetic smile. She knew that some people were shy when they first arrived, but after all, that just made socialization an even more important step in recovery. "Do you need some help finding somewhere to sit?"

There were plenty of other new arrivals, so it shouldn't be hard to find him a friend.

The nurse gave Jaime a long look as she considered his request. It was out of the ordinary, of course, but it wasn't technically against policy. And pizza was something that had to be eaten with one's hands...

"I'll let you do it this once, but you can't make a habit of it," she said, gesturing for him to follow her. Her other hand waved towards a male orderly, who also fell into place behind her.

When they reached the bathroom, the orderly opened the door and waved for Jaime to follow, then waited beside the sink.
