Nightshift 38: Experimental Treatments Laboratory

Despite the silence, Scar was quite on edge as he entered the next room. It was tempting to simply let the others enter first, so that they would be the one attacked first if a monster indeed lurked within this area. But as it was, the King was the one that carefully pushed open the door to enter. He glancing around for any immediate ( Read more... )

Endrance nodded distractedly. Yes, it did seem to be safe, but that wasn't what drew his interest. No, what he was interested in was the computer in the southeast corner of the room. Without a word to the others, he took a seat at the desk. He frowned - no. It was more of a pout than a frown that came over his face at the lack of M2D and controller - that meant he couldn't log into The World from that particular terminal. He clucked his tongue unhappily.

Still, it wasn't a lost cause completely, not yet. You could still access email, in theory. And if he could access email...

Endrance frowned at the login screen. This wasn't ALTIMIT. He sighed. At least there were login and password fields. Probably staff-related, but perhaps they could be bypassed? He entered his usual login and password for The World.

Nothing happened.

He frowned again, intent on trying a second time.

Harley herself had to do a bit of a double take at the beds; first to double check there were outlines of bodies under the sheets and second to register their presence at all. They had an animal testing lab. Did the beds mean they did tests on humans, too? As if one weren't bad enough... What kind of sicko ran this place, anyway?! Maybe she wasn't a sterling example of sanity, but neither her nor anyone she knew back at Arkham did anything like this as far as she knew.

The sooner they could all get out, the better. Then, she coming back and blowing the place up.

She hastily looked over the two closest doors, barely noticing Endrance's departure from the rest of the group. One of these doors led to the Animal Testing Lab... Now the question was which one? Thinking back to the map, she was pretty sure it was the one closest to the door again. She walked over to the door, instantly spotting yet another lock. Man, this was getting annoying ( ... )

Now that there weren't any threats here, the King became less tensed. Not that all discomfort had left him, but at least there wasn't anything here to eat them.

Scar curiously glanced at Endrance as he seated himself behind the alien contraption, not even beginning to fathom what such an odd device was for, much less what the other patient hoped to achieve with it.

In the mean time, Harley had opened the next door. "Whatever you are doing, Endrance, do try to hurry up? Nights end rather abruptly here." the feline stated. He simply wasn't keen on waiting here.

Not long after they had entered, another group of patients followed them into the room. "It would seem we have company." he commented. They were looking for medical supplies, apparently.

Endrance heard his companions' protests, but chose to ignore them for the moment. He wasn't a hacker by nature, no, but one didn't spend most of their time in front of a console without learning a few tricks. Even if this was an unfamiliar operating system, something would have to work. And if it did, then so much the better for everyone involved - a few emails, and someone from the other side would most likely start working on rectifying the problem.

He typed in various combinations of usernames and passwords at a speed that only a dedicated Internet addict could maintain, muttering quietly all the while. "No...no...not even that?" He glared at the screen unhappily. If the basics didn't work, then he would have to try more advanced methods.

Various combinations of keystrokes, frantic mouse-clicks, and two reboots later, the login screen still taunted him. Endrance let out a long, frustrated sigh, slumping slightly in his seat for a moment before starting back up again.

It looked like they'd caught up to the other party and all he could think was that at least neither group had run into anything bad. It really wasn't like him to have such luck, but he wasn't going to complain if they didn't come across anything bad tonight.

"What kind of medical supplies were we looking for exactly?" he turned to ask Itachi. "It was something about taking blood samples, wasn't it?"

As MOMO moved to look around the room, she couldn't help but frown slightly. It certainly wasn't the morgue or autopsy room, but what kind of room was it? The placement of the beds and tables made her more than a little nervous.

There was a computer in the room too. Huh... That was interesting. Maybe, if they had time once they'd managed to find the supplies they needed, they could take a look at that. After all, a computer was likely to have information stored on it, and it could be helpful if they could find it.

"We were supposed to look for a microscope and slides too." Although the question had been directed at Itachi, MOMO felt compelled to add that much.

"And syringes," Itachi added. Come to think of it, carrying back a microscope -- and all that fragile medical equipment -- might pose a significant problem. Especially if they had to fight anything on their way back. They would deal with that problem when they found the equipment, however; for now they should just focus on completing the first part of the task.

There didn't seem to be much in this room, but there were two more doors and a closet between them. Itachi crossed to the cabinet and opened it warily, mindful of the unlikely event that some antagonistic entity might be in there. In fact, it was full of medical supplies. "I think at least some of what we need might be in here."

Microscope, slides, and syringes. He couldn't be sure he could recognize all of those right off the bat, but he'd give it a try. Things that a person knew by one name in their own world might have a completely different one in another. The medical ones seemed to be fairly universal though.

The room itself was fairly sparse, but Itachi seemed to know where to go. The closet was full of plenty of things, some that were actually on their list. That was something of a relief. He didn't want to wind up empty handed again.

"Looks like this is it!" he said with a smile, sifting through the medications until he found some syringes. He'd have to be careful with them, but he should be able to carry them without worrying too much about them breaking. Yuuhi took a box of them and tucked them into his pillowcase.

The lab was as she remembered, complete with many interesting things to sort though. But a group was already in here, and what she was personally looking for was in another room. "We're moving on," she said lowly.

Jiraiya nodded in response to her comment, regardless if it was for him or not. He kept moving, following a bit behind Renamon.

And she finally came to a door that was locked. Frowning a bit at that, she slammed her heel down on the knob twice. Like the previous nights, the door cracked open, knob hanging off. She quickly moved inside.

Harley certainly hoped Endrance and Scar were right behind her. She honestly didn't have the courage to look behind her. Heck at the moment, she didn't have the courage to do too much of anything. She suddenly felt blank, hopeless. Nothing. To think she'd entered these doors with so much hope.

It was times like this she was teetering on a psychological balance beam. All she needed was a push to explode one way or the other. What were they supposed to do now? What could they do? What were these people doing?

Puddin'... What do I do now?

To put it lightly, Scar was rather shaken as he followed Harley out of the room without a single word, having the need nor desire to give the cages another look. He had seen enough. A definite case of 'finding more than you wanted'.

He hadn't expected pleasant things in that room. But this? Something this disturbing hadn't even so much as crossed his mind. He had heard of testing, experiments...but being confronted with the facts was something else.

Something he wasn't quite sure how to deal with.

Endrance was silent as he exited the room, too shaken and too lost in his own thoughts to even begin to speak. Even if he had been inclined to say anything, there weren't words for it, other than the obvious. There weren't any easy adages, no metaphors, no poetic phrases.

He didn't look either of his companions in the eye. Instead, he glanced over to the computer again, but what was the point? He hadn't been able to access anything before, and even if he had, he could count the number of people he could easily contact on one hand.

What was the point of all of this?

It was almost impossible to tell from the minor wounds Wesker had inflicted on Leon, but he suspected, based on the injuries Leon had taken, that the mutation didn't include a regenerative ability. That indicated it likely wasn't the T-virus.

Wesker stepped to flatten next to the door as soon as he had moved through it, waiting to stab at one of Leon's shoulders as he came through the door.

Bio-weapon? "I'm not one of your pets, Wesker," Leon growled, slamming the door open. "I'm much, much worse--" He stopped in mid-sentence as a blade bit into his shoulder. With a snarl of pain, Leon turned on Wesker, claws extended, aiming for the man's eyes. The tentacles lashed out as well, slamming noisily into the walls and doorframe as they frantically lashed towards Wesker. It didn't seem Leon had much control over them. They certainly shared his goal, though.

"Yes, Mr. Kennedy, you are much worse," Wesker said, leaving that knife in Leon's shoulder to inhibit the use of that arm. Leon would either have to deal with it or pull it out. Pulling it out would likely give Wesker another opportunity to make an attack ( ... )

"I'm in control," Leon snapped. His voice was so distorted, it was hard to tell if he believed it or not.

"And you're going to need more than knives to stop me." One of the tentacles clumsily ripped the knife from his shoulder, doing more damage in the process, but it meant that Leon could charge at Wesker again. This time, Leon swung at Wesker's face with one hand and his stomach with the other. The tentacle that was wrapped around the blade lashed out at Wesker's arm. It didn't have a terribly good grip, and the knife would probably drop after a couple more swings.
