Nightshift 38: Decontamination Room

[coming in from here]

Harley walked in cautiously. She'd learned enough that the rooms were more dangerous than the hallways, and the last thing they needed was to get pounced as soon as they marched inside. There was a faint, distant sound... the slow, rhythmic pat of water dripping from a shower head. Otherwise, the room was silent ( Read more... )

Harley wasn't the only one who wasn't quite at ease in this particular area. Scar's animal instinct was still mostly in tact, so he could tell this particular part of the institute wasn't the most pleasant one. It wasn't merely the name of the location they were heading to (though the combination of 'animal' and 'testing' didn't predict good things), or the fact a certain chilly room filled with cabinets happened to be quite nearby, or even the strange smell. No, it was the feeling this area gave off that made Scar feel uncomfortable. Uncomfortable enough to not have any reason to investigate this room's odd equipment ( ... )

Itachi quickly passed over the room with the flashlight, not immediately seeing any enemies. Of course, his eyes were not the best. He walked in confidently, giving no sign that his every sense was straining to catch a sign of an attack before it happened.

He could see now that this room was segmented into three smaller areas. This first area did not have much in it, other than a table. Warily, shining the flashlight into dark corners, he made his way through to the next part, which seemed to be a shower area.

Not much to this room. It was empty so far as he could see, except for the tiled floor and the shower heads. It was kind of hard to see much more than that between the lack of light and his left eye being so bothersome. He was glad for the darkness though, as at least it meant it was more difficult for anyone to see his behavior too.

There was only the one other door, so Yuuhi assumed they would be going that way. "Doesn't look like there's anything here we can use," he commented, moving along.

The room was as strange as when she had first came upon it. Here, were places to check for hidden threats. Her gaze swept the room quickly, analyzing any places that stuck out.

Jiraiya did the same, a natural movement to him. So far, their movement had not been impeded by a single obstacle. He was sure that would not last.

Almost there. Wesker made the short dash through the decontamination room and off into the lab proper. It was time to start taking this fight to Leon and demonstrating what made a superior bio weapon.

It wasn't all about brute strength and extra appendages.

Leon followed Wesker into the lab, barely noticing the other patients in the room. They weren't important. "Quit running, Wesker," Leon snarled. The tentacles on his back lashed out towards Wesker, trying to knock the man off balance. Leon swiped at him with the claws again.

"So impatient, Leon. We're almost there," Wesker replied, turning to face Leon when the tentacles slapped him. Those were going to leave bruises, but he couldn't allow Leon's attack to go unpunished.

He slashed at the tentacles with his knife, and used his already injured arm to deflect Leon's claws and take the least amount of damage possible. Wesker used the back of his hand and arm, hoping to avoid cutting the major blood vessels on his wrist. The tendons on the back of his fore arm would be ruined, but that would leave him only able to clench his left fist, and not open that hand.

Far preferable to having the more vulnerable part of his wrist slashed open. Wesker continued to back up to the door that opened to the lab proper, this room was too small to properly fight Leon in.

Leon grinned, revealing razor-sharp teeth, as his claws sliced through Wesker's arm. "Why wait?" One tentacle whipped back as the knife sliced it, splattering blood across the walls. Leon didn't seem to notice, or care.

He lunged forward, tentacles snapping towards Wesker, apparently intent on knocking the other man over with a head-on bull rush.

Indy was not this kind of scientist.

The room, he saw, was divided into three parts--presumably, as the name suggested, used for some kind of decontamination process. Were they worried about preventing contaminants from outside from getting into the lab, or about preventing whatever the researchers were dealing with in the lab from getting out? Either way, that setup left a lot of places for potential assailants to hide. The flashlight beam reflected off the aggressively white surfaces but didn't pick out any lurkers. Still, he'd rather get through here as quickly as possible.

"Lab door is up ahead at the northwest corner of the room," he said, already striding toward it.

"Then we won't have to rely on reports, will we?" Methos replied. The prospect didn't disturb him, but he allowed his voice to settle into a deliberately bland register anyway.

He didn't head directly for the door Jones indicated, instead taking the time to get a quick look at the area around them. It had too many blind corners for comfort, but that had only a little to do with why he found himself unnerved by the room. "What are they doing, that they'd require this sort of set-up?" he muttered. Whatever it was, it couldn't possibly be good.

Indy didn't comment on Pierson's first statement. "Who knows?" he said in response to the second. "Whatever it is, they must only need the room sterile at certain times. They have to know patients are coming through here every night." His instinct was almost to say some sort of disease or chemical study, but if so, they evidently weren't worried about the possible risk factors inherent in letting patients in there and back out. "Could be--"

But that was as far as he got with that conjecture, because that was when he heard voices coming from the far doorway. The speakers were men, and they were angry, but that was all Indy could make out from their tones. But what the hell were those slamming noises?

"They could likely seal the room off if there was risk of active contamination," Methos replied. It seemed almost futile otherwise, unless all they had to deal with was the sort of caustic spill that might damage only those who came in direct contact with it.

Jones' abrupt trailing off alerted him to the sounds coming from the next room. Methos stilled, straining to hear more clearly. Another quick sweep of the room picked up a splash of blood across the walls. He grimaced. "That's not a good sign."
