Night 38: Courtyard

Jan 26, 2009 20:12

[from here]Climbing up the wall had been a little awkward with the bat, but he managed it. A quick look around from the top of the wall showed him some open area with a pond, a bunch of trees, and another shed. Nope, not going by that shed. Not at all. It can stay over there and keep all the Evil Koro-chans it was hiding to itself. He'd just ( Read more... )

It certainly didn't look like anyone was in the area to have seen it, no. But as Junpei flopped over there came a faint sourceless giggle, like an impish child amused by the sight.

And yet, still the area seemed empty, with nobody at all in sight. Perhaps it was just the wind in the trees, or the burble of water in the pond.

Junpei sat up and looked around suspiciously.

"Hey now! That wasn't funny!"

Wait... where was the little punk anyways? With a sigh, Junpei relaxed and flopped on his back again. His mind was playing with him. Clearly, he'd subjected it to too much Innocent Sin Online. Why the hell did he have to power through it so quickly so he could give Mr. Perfect a shot at it anyways?

There was another giggle, this time followed up by insubstantial fingers plucking at Junpei's sleeve, the jersey, a lock of his hair. It was all quite playful, just a curious inspection of this stranger who had arrived in such an undignified fashion. Perhaps he'd be a good playmate?

Stupid wind. Go away.

Junpei idly brushed a hand at the tugging on his sleeve as he tried to identify constellations before he remembered he'd only passed science because he'd cheated. It was when something played with his hair that he had the sudden mental flash of a horde of tiny alien insects crawling through the grass, into his hair in their search to lay their alien eggs inside his ears.

"Nnnnnnyyrrrrgggahhh!"

He bolted to his feet, hands frantically ruffling his hair to get any tiny creatures off him. After a couple seconds of doing so, he stopped and, panting slightly, he took the time to carefully look himself over. Nope - no alien bugs. Whew.

[from here, with a short time delay]

Ken balanced on top of the wall for a moment, looking to make sure the courtyard wasn't occupied by something unpleasant before jumping down, landing crouched on the grass.

He took a deep breath as he stood, feeling the claustrophobia that had been building over the last few days start to lessen. He moved back toward the wall, and the door, leaning against it before just taking the time to breathe air that hadn't been cycled through a sterile building all day.

Though the courtyard had been still and silent but for the whisper of soft wind through the trees, after a moment one of the shadows moved, separating itself from the greater darkness close to the building. The dim moonlight revealed a human form as the shadowy figure moved closer, red-haired and clothed in patient grey.

"Ken," he greeted in his characteristically brusque manner, giving a slight nod as he paused a few feet away, waiting for acknowledgment before moving closer. Best not to startle an assassin, after all, not if one wanted to remain living.

But Ken did startle. The voice was familiar, one he'd wanted to hear for days now. To hear it now was enough for him to jump.

"Aya?" Ken stared at him, not knowing what to say. After a moment or two, though, he continued to speak. "...you fucker, I was worried about you."

Aya frowned slightly as he regarded Ken, noting the startled initial reaction with perhaps the faintest hint of surprise visible in his expression. Well, visible to someone who knew him well, at the least.

"Worried?" he asked, finally. "Why?"

[From here, after Ken's run-in with the mimic]

The adrenaline boost lasted long enough to get him mostly over the wall. Trying to climb with half-frozen fingers? Not such a good idea. Dean's landing was crappy, messy, the hunter staggering as he tried to catch his breath and his balance. The cold seemed to be spreading out from his side and, looking down once he noticed there was some warm spots, he saw he'd been cut. Blood from that bitch's magic was starting to seep through his soaked shirt, staining the fabric dark red in the moonlight. That wasn't even the half of it - the best part was apparently all that running around and climbing walls? It'd reopened some of the injuries he'd got last night; he could feel something wet right above his eye, probably from that last tumble which hadn't been too awesome, and he also had a growing spot on the left thigh of his jeans. He'd been lucky he hadn't made things worse and stabbed himself with the bowie on the way down - he'd managed to pry it from mostly unresponsive fingers and stuff it ( ... )

Damn, this was bad. It looked like one fight was starting to take place, and another just ended. Akihiko looked from one side to the other, assessing the situation. It looked like this would be his best chance to get through the area without getting noticed.

He kept his head low and ran across the courtyard, then paused for just a moment to stretch his muscles before climbing over the wall. He stood on top for just a moment, noticing the thick, cool fog covering the place.
Maybe it was just a weather thing, but he had a bad feeling about it, and not too many other choices. He braced for anything, then jumped off the wall and down into the field.

[from here]Before getting over completely, Kurogane gave the mist one last glance. It was seeping out over the wall but wasn't going much farther than just the closed off area of the Recreational Field below. So it was like some kind of restriction, he saw, placed on those who had their minds messed with. Either that or even the monsters in this place were restricted ( ... )

He managed to hoist himself over the wall, just before Kurogane did, and dropped onto the ground on the other side after a quick scan of the lay of the land. Landing with his knees bent, he tapped a hand against the ground to catch his balance, and glanced up to make sure Kurogane was still functioning properly. His arm looked messed up, but he seemed determined and still mobile ( ... )

Childish laughter echoed softly across the courtyard, a faint, sourceless giggle accompanied by a rustle of leaves skittering across the path despite the lack of a breeze.

He hopped down easily but stumbled a bit thanks to his weighted arm. He'd need to get used to that before long. The stumble went ignored, and Kurogane took up heading for the door to cover the embarrassment ( ... )
