Day 38: Lunch

Jan 14, 2009 10:50

Soubi was beginning to feel the effects of a busy morning on a tired body. To make things worse, they were serving Tacos and Burritos. He could really do some with something a bit softer today. Blander. But it was hardly his biggest concern right now ( Read more... )

"Yes."

Sheena's reply was blunt and immediate. Raine was her friend and she trusted the half-elf more than anyone else here, but that didn't mean she didn't have her moments of wanting to choke the professor.

"She's a teacher as well as a healer, so when she thinks there's something you need to talk about, or something she can help with, she tends to push and push and push until you get so frustrated that you explode," Sheena said with a scowl. "She did that to me the other night. I kinda snapped, lost my temper and threatened to kill her if she ever repeated anything she'd heard."

The ninja stabbed her burrito viciously. "She means well, but she doesn't know when to leave things alone. Yeah, people do need to talk but that doesn't mean they need to talk to her about them, much less when she thinks they needs to. She doesn't understand that. I trust her more than anyone here, but there are some issues between us that will probably never get fully resolved ( ... )

"I know," he sighed. It was just that... Seimei and Ristu never would have taken Soubi's feelings into consideration. No, that was a lie. They'd have done it to hurt him and make him stronger. To let him break inwardly, without a word to them. Let that part of him die and pull him further away from humanity. But that wouldn't have hurt as much as this. He felt so incredibly alone because nobody was telling him to deal with it. They had sympathy.

"Yes. You remind me of Kio. He's annoying and stubborn and too kind to strangers. He's not uni-" Soubi paused and thought. "Well, you're both unique and similar, I suppose. But neither of you is as special as Ritsuka." That last one might have been a brag.

Sheena shook her head and laughed a little. "Of course we're not," she said. "We're not him. I can't speak for Kio, but I'm not trying to be like Ritsuka. I'm just being me."

"Oh no, Kio doesn't want to be like Ritsuka. He wants me to want him as he is," Soubi said offhandedly. Kio really was a strange one. A pacifist who offered to beat Soubi for sexual pleasure. Really, what a strange guy. And he was worried about Soubi's influence on a child?

"... he wants you to want him as he is?" Sheena wasn't always the quickest to catch onto things sometimes.

"O...kay."

Soubi chuckled quietly. "Kio....doesn't like my ways. He doesn't know about Fighter Pairs, but he's aware of Ritsuka and my previous master and he doesn't like it. He tries to promise to do things for me and be a certain way so I wont need Ritsuka. But... I like Kio as he is," Soubi said, thoughtfully. He nodded to himself. Yeah, he liked Kio as he was. But he just wasn't Soubi's master so...

She... didn't get it and it was clear as day that she didn't.

"Okay... so you want me to not say anything about the Fighter stuff if he's around?"

Soubi laughed again and shook his head. "Kio is very simple and very complex," he explained. In his own confusing way.

"Oh. I...please," he frowned. Kio had taken so badly to Demyx last night, Soubi would hate to be the cause of that look on his face. The fear and doubt and anger. But Soubi had no power here, so maybe it'd be fine. "He's not ready to find out."

The ninja got that defensive look on her face again. Now she knew there was something she was missing and Soubi wasn't going to tell her. She almost pouted.

"Okay," Sheena replied. "I'll try not to say anything and let you tell him when he's ready for it." She sighed. "I might mess up and accidentally say something, just warning you, but I'll do my best not to."

"What?" he asked, amused. "There's really nothing in it. Kio doesn't like the idea of me having a master and yet he goes around acting like he's my wife. He's a nuisance, really," Soubi said, fondly.

"Thank you... He's not taking well to the idea of magic."

"W-wife?!?" Sheena's eyes went wide and then, suddenly her face flushed red at the mental image she got.

"Umm..." The ninja looked away and suddenly got really interested in her food. "Okay."

"Sheena, you're so sensitive. But I don't get it either. As I said, he's unique."

Soubi patted Sheena on the head. "Aren't any of your friends a little strange?"

"Am not," she replied She wasn't... okay, maybe she was sensitive. But still! That didn't mean Soubi had the right to say so.

She ducked and glowered as she was patted on the head. Colette did that too from time to time, but then again, Colette did that to a lot of people, especially dogs.

"Yeah. They're all strange, but none go around acting like they're my wife... husband... whatever."

"Hmm, so all this time Kio's been telling me that I'm not normal when, in fact, he is very, very strange. I should confront him."

....

"It never works," he sighed. Kio was more stubborn than Soubi. Or just had a lot more energy, anyway. It was easier to just give it. To a certain point.

"Hey now! Just cause he's strange doesn't mean anything. Just because my friends aren't strange like that doesn't mean Kio's extra strange," Sheena exclaimed with a bit of exasperation. "Seriously, I have a friend that will flirt with anything with boobs and then thinks that he can sidle up to me like he's not a philandering idiot and not get hit and I have a friend that refuses to let his hands be unbound from the chains he has them in because they're a symbol of his repentance, insisting on fighting with his feet when he's really skilled with his hands."

She sighed and glared. "I've also got a friend that turns into this scary, overwhelming, overly excited... creepy and embarrassing woman when she finds some ruins she's never seen before or a concept she's not heard of, cornering people to ask them lots of complex questions when she feels like it."

"Geesh."

Soubi stared at Sheena blankly for a moment.

"You associate yourself with some very unusual people. Does this make me your normal friend?" he asked, tilting his head and smiling.
