Nightshift 37: F1-F10 Hallway

Dec 08, 2008 12:51

As far as dinner shifts went, that one had actually been enjoyable. It had been nice to have somebody to talk to, to show off for, and Sen hadn’t seemed to mind all that much. Except for that one teeny-tiny little slip, just after Yuffie’d revealed that she was a ninja…

What was with that ( Read more... )

It would have been nice to at least be properly equipped for a battle, but with her metal pole gone and nothing but pens for pointed objects, she just had to hope they didn't run into anything too dangerous. She knew she had to hurry, so she gathered the supplies, pens, flashlight, and one of the pillowcases, as soon as she'd finished dinner, waiting at the door for it to unlock.

As soon as she heard the lock click, she pushed it open and bolted out the door.

Ayumu was rather glad to see Yuffie leave so quickly when night fell, to be honest. It would give her a few minutes to prepare before Robin arrived and make certain she'd regained her composure, as well as to think about what she'd learned - not just in the last little while, but through the entire day ( ... )

Matt paused in front of Sen's door. He took a moment to straighten out his vest, even though it didn't need straightening, and secure his goggles, even though there wasn't anything off about them. Then he mentally reprimanded himself for being ridiculous about the whole matter.

He knocked on the door a couple times - not so hard that she'd think he was trying to rush her. "Hey, Sen. It's me, Robin."

It really was hard to tell just how much time had passed between Yuffie's departure and the knock on the door, and Ayumu spared a moment to wonder about the speculation she'd read on the bulletin board about the nature of time in the Institute. If the people who ran it could meddle with time and space to the extent that they apparently could, why not make it uncertain how long you'd been here? It was another way to throw their prisoners off balance, after all ( ... )

"Too?" Matt had been ready to greet her with a smile when she opened the door, but it faded somewhat as she spoke. "You mean someone else got their clothes too? Here I was thinking it was a birthday gift of sorts." Here the smile returned, and he stood up a bit straighter. "I turned twenty today."

Or it could have been yesterday. It was hard to keep track of time in this place. The point was that he'd been given the chance to live to see his twentieth birthday. If nothing else, the Institute had at least granted him that.

"It'd help if I knew the actual date, but I suppose I could keep a tally. Count off the next 365 days." He shrugged.

The intercom message was summarily ignored when it sounded. Rangiku stood up and retrieved her katana, slipping it solemnly into the sash around her waist. There were the candles too. She felt woefully unprepared for what it was that she needed to do, but that was just the way that things went. Could one ever be prepared for the death of a friend?

With a soft sigh, she stepped out into the corridor.

Elena had mixed feelings about going out. On one hand, she was feeling mostly better about yesterday - apparently sleeping all morning had helped in that regard. On the other, she was worried it'd be awkward, the way that Reno and Rude both knew something that she didn't and didn't plan on telling her. But that shouldn't stop her from trying to work on escaping, right?

In the end, it was her sense of duty that got her moving. That and remembering that she still had the knife Rude gave her. Perhaps tonight she'd actually find something to kill like they'd planned on.

Only when she went to her closet to get ready, she was met with quite a surprise - her Turk suit, pressed and clean and hanging there as if it'd always been there. She gaped at it for a few moments before quickly changing.

Now she had a reason to go out; she could finally brag to Reno that he wasn't special anymore in his normal clothes.

Lust slid on her clawed knuckles, grabbed her flashlight, and wasted no time in venturing out tonight. She was fueled with a desire to do something, to feel a sense of accomplishment by the end of the night. She'd done enough moping and time wasting - more than enough.

Simply because she was human now, that didn't turn into a witless ninny.
