DAY 37: MEN'S SHOWERS (4th Shift)

Dec 02, 2008 11:07

There had been an awkward air left between him and Tyki after their conversation. Yuuri knew he wasn't the best at explaining much of anything, and for the tenth time he wondered why Murata wasn't here to answer the difficult questions for him. Everyone had been herded out of the cafeteria after that, and Yuuri had simply followed along in ( Read more... )

Sousuke was never one to linger in the shower. He couldn't understand why people liked to stand under water for long periods of time--especially when the point wasn't relaxation, just getting clean.

He shampooed, washed, and toweled almost in record time (thank you, submarine showers) and headed out to the Sun Room.

Preoccupied with his conversation with Grell, his plans for tonight, and the information he'd received on the institute so far, Brainiac 5 wasn't paying much attention where he was going as he automatically followed the flow of other 'children' from the cafeteria. He'd heard the word 'showers' in the announcement earlier, which was something he supposed his body could do with right about now. Humans weren't as efficient as Coluans after all, and he was missing his nanotech systems that would have handled all the mundane processes that were so often just a waste of time.

He froze up when he entered the room, all current thoughts brushed aside by the horror of realising this place had communal showers. Of course in theory he'd known about such social customs, but the good thing about theories was that they were just theories and he didn't have any practical experience with them. And, in this case, didn't want to. Seeing so many others - people that he didn't even know! - in such a state of undress was thoroughly different from Coluan ( ... )

Tonight seemed simple enough, but Clark was worried. He knew he worried a lot, but he didn't see how he could afford not to when so many things could go wrong: his powers were already unreliable enough, they could get attacked, Kvothe might see something he wasn't supposed to, there might not even be phones there. The list went on. As nervous as it made him feel, he knew he'd go anyway. They needed to know.

The showers weren't exactly his favorite shift of the day. He'd gone through this a few times not to get too shocked about it, but that didn't mean he wasn't still uncomfortable. Clark kept his eyes down, not wanting to stare at what was a lot of other naked guys, and headed toward one of the showers. He began showering and was in the middle of shampooing his hair when he finally snuck a glance over at the other guy and realized one, he'd never seen him before and two. Two was a biggie because Clark couldn't help staring this time now.

There were three circles on his head, like scars or something.

Brainiac 5 supposed he shouldn't have taken it personally when someone else approached, there were a limited number of showers after all and he doubted the newcomer had sought him out on purpose, but nevertheless it felt as though he was caught, embarrassingly naked, under a kind of spotlight. So much for his plan of avoiding all others until he could leave.

His reaction was unnecessary, he told himself. Despite how he may feel at the moment, he was not actually the centre of attention in the area, and the newcomer was not actually staring at him. He glanced up to prove the point and found, to his horror, that the newcomer was indeed staring at him. Intently. His face flared hot again and Brainiac 5 glared at the other boy, pointedly keeping his gaze on the other's face.

"Is there something you wanted?" he asked, ice practically crystalising on each word.

Clark flushed, all too aware he'd been caught staring, and he looked away. Whether he got those scars from here or from before Landels, it wasn't really polite to stare at them.

"Sorry," Clark said. He flicked a sidelong glance at the other kid. "It doesn't still hurt, does it?"

He hoped not. They were actually really big and if they left scars that large, he wasn't sure he wanted to know how big the injuries had been when they were fresh. He didn't blame the other kid for getting annoyed at him, especially considering where they were.

Well, lunch had certainly been a pleasant change! Tamaki was actually in something close to a good mood when he shucked off his clothes - making sure to set his hair ribbons down gently and ask the nurse to keep them safe - and headed into the showers in his towel.

While he was still a bit nervous over communal showers now, he could mostly ignore the slight rise in nerves that came with being exposed to strangers. Potentially dangerous strangers. Really, he was being silly! The particular person he was afraid of wasn't even there, and no one was going to try anything in the showers!

Humming under his breath, Tamaki found an open shower slot and turned on the water. There were going to be new hands to help out at the clinic tonight, and he'd have to be at his best to handle it all!

[For Ed!]

Ed was a bit more subdued by the time that lunch ended, the threat of losing someone else close to him seeming much more real and immediate. It was no surprise then, that once he got into the shower and spotted a familiar figure, that he headed right over to Tamaki immediately.

He slipped into the spot next to his boyfriend and smiled at him warmly. "Hey," he said, glad to see him and know that he was there and real.

Tamaki turned a wide smile - something that hadn't graced his face in some time - to Ed.

"Ah! There you are!" he exclaimed as he reached for the shampoo. He knew that there were bad things going on, and that Ed was probably upset about them. He bit his lower lip and watched his boyfriend carefully, as though trying to see beyond his smile.

"Are you alright?" he asked, still smiling, but not quite as brightly. He couldn't help but worry.

Ed smiled in return, glad to see that kind of expression on Tamaki's face again. He hadn't really looked happy since, well, Ed didn't want to think about it any more than necessary.

He shrugged in response to the question, not really wanting to make Tamaki worried as well. "It's nothing," he said, smiling more widely. "I'm good, even. We managed to get something done last night. You should come and see tonight."

Chopper just couldn't get used to the idea of showers here.

It wasn't the fact that it was communal bathing; he was well enough used to that, having taken communal baths with his fellow pirates. It wasn't even the fact that he didn't know the majority of the people he was told to bath with. What felt so awkward to him was washing a fully human body.

He'd always bathed in Brain Point before, with his hooves and fur and antlers. Water hitting against fur-less human skin felt different, and served as further reminder to how he'd been changed.

Chopper wandered to an unoccupied spot, reaching out to turn on the water. At least having fingers was a little more convenient than his hooves...

The showers again. Once more, Adelheid was shocked about the fact that he wasn't shocked about the routine. He'd gotten used to the ordeal, and in a way, that worried him; he was getting accustomed to playing according to Martin Landel's rules, and he couldn't afford to keep losing the initiative. So then, the question presented itself... what could he do?

For now, remain a decent distance away from Suou Tamaki, and get himself cleaned up. There was no point in remaining unwashed, after all, and perhaps the warm water would help relax him enough to make the night's work even easier to handle. He could hope so, at least.

Allen had hoped that the showers would have emptied at least a little by the time he got there, but that didn't seem to be the case. There weren't many places left, so he picked one and walked quickly over, trying not to look at much more than the tiles and the adjustable knobs on the shower.

He gave a shy and quiet "hello" to the man nearest him before he started washing up.

Adelheid glanced over to the other boy and offered a smile of his own, shifting a half-inch to grant him a bit more privacy. "Don't mind me," he offered, then turned back to his own business, carefully washing around his false left eye- he had the sneaking suspicion that he wouldn't want to be put through the Institute's 'repair work.'

In that one glance, though, he'd noticed a few things... like the scar, and the cross and the blackened fingernails. It was odd to see, and yet Adelheid wasn't sure he wanted to bring it up. He had enough scars that he could hardly start asking about someone else's.

He didn't feel quite up to smiling, but when the other boy gave him one, he did try to give one in return.

"Thank you," he added, glad for a bit more space, small as it might be. He lathered up the soap and started washing his hair, remembering this time that there was a separate dispenser for both soap and shampoo.

"Ah- I'm Allen," he offered, "Allen Walker. I... I'm sorry, it's just kind of strange to be having a conversation here but... w-well, I suppose I can't break the habit of at least giving introductions. I think I've seen you around the institute before, but... I don't believe we've ever spoken."
