Nightshift 36: F-A Block Hallway

She didn't pause, only noting that the halls were empty for once. It seemed that she was one of the first out. It didn't matter in the long run. She was focused on her tasks; nothing else registered.

Momo trailed her fingers along the wall as she paused to see if Sora had made it to the hallway yet. No, it seemed not. Unsurprising, considering how far some of the men's blocks were. He may be in one of the further ones for all the shinigami knew.

There she was. "Hinamori-fukutaichou," Hokuto said, bowing slightly. "Good evening." When she was really uncertain, she tended to fall back on just being polite and waiting, lately.

So what's the plan? She knew where they were going, and that their third was someone she didn't know, but tonight that didn't say much.

Momo gave Hokuto a warm smile, her mannerisms much more friendly and bright than the girl had ever seen from the shinigami. "Ah, Hokuto-chan," she said, "I was expecting to retrieve you from your room. This works well, though, since we're meeting Sora here."

The shinigami stepped further into the hallway, motioning for Hokuto to follow along, making themselves more visible to anyone entering the door. "Have you met Sora yet?"

Hokuto smiled back, glad to see her so happy. "Not yet." Once again, she would probably be the least experienced fighter of the group, but hopefully this Sora (hmmm... another girl?) wouldn't mind. She could hold her own, at least, and she was getting better.

"So, had a good day?" she winked.

There was someone else in this hall, Hanyuu noted with slight relief. It was always a lot scarier when the halls were completely empty, so she was glad to see at least one other person out.

Only a couple people in this hall. Apparently she was out earlier than usual.

MOMO kept her light off as she moved. She knew where she was going, so it was best to avoid wasting the batteries. Plus she didn't want to risk drawing any unwanted attention to herself either.

[ From here. And she already has a rescuer planned!]

Ururu did okay, until she came to the end of her hall. Then she had to go one way or the other, except she was too dizzy to tell one way from the other, or to even understand at first where the wall she'd been leaning on had gone to. It wasn't good, not at all, and Ururu wanted to keep moving. But moving was very hard, and even though she wanted to get to her friends, Ururu thought that maybe she could take a little break. Just a small one, long enough to feel better.

Ururu sank down onto the floor, and hoped everything got better soon. She didn't want her friends to worry.

Orihime shined her flashlight ahead of her, keeping it close to the floor as usual to keep from blinding any of the other people out in the hallway. She didn't think she'd spent much time in her room so hopefully the others wouldn't mind her being late.

She stopped suddenly as she turned the corner and the flashlight beam passed over a small dark shape. Despite expecting monster attacks in the hallway, she recognised Ururu right away. "Ururu-chan?! What's wrong?" She knelt quickly beside the little girl and touched her shoulder. Had she gotten attacked again in the hall? Orihime didn't see any blood, but maybe it was a broken bone and if that was the case she shouldn't move her yet right?

He was near collapse himself by the time he reached the hallway. His breathing was heavy and labored as he felt his way along the walls. It wasn't until he heard Orihime's voice and saw the beam of her flashlight that he tried to focus on what was going on.

It looked like Ururu had collapsed and Orihime was trying to help her. Had she really been hurt again? Yuuhi fell down to his knees beside her, eyes glassy with worry as well as the exertion. Hopefully Orihime wouldn't notice that he hadn't so much knelt to check on her as he'd collapsed down beside her.

"Ururu?" his cold fingers brushed her forehead, before sliding down her cheek and to her neck to check her pulse. His own was beating furiously in his head, which made it difficult to concentrate, though he did his best to push it aside.

There were voices now, and even though she was groggy, Ururu lifted her head. She recognized Orihime first, or at least she thought she did. It was hard, because she couldn't focus her sight. Everything was moving all over the place, and it was blurry. But if it was Orihime, Ururu didn't want her to worry, because she wasn't hurt. She was just very tired. "H-hello, Orihime-san."

Then there was a thump beside her, and very cold fingers on her skin. Ururu turned her head to look at the new person, and immediately her eyes went wide. She couldn't see right, but she thought she saw him, and was it really him? "Kisuke-san?!" Despite the sedation, Ururu was hopeful, and she immediately reached out to cling to the person. Of course, her movements were sluggish, and the sedation made her weaker, so what was an instant move in her mind was actually very clumsy and slow.

"'M tired, Kisuke-san." Ururu mumbled the words softly, trying to move closer to him.

The smaller hallway opened into a larger one, and here Ayumu found the source of the voices she'd heard. Some of the people there were carrying small lights in their hands which didn't look quite like any candles or lanterns she had ever seen, and she paused a moment to watch them go past, frowning slightly. Some kind of Western invention? The clothing and the furniture seemed to fit that.

Ayumu finally shook her head slightly and started to move again, carefully giving a wide berth to the person she could hear slouching against the wall nearby. There'd been a door visible for a moment when someone else moved through it, and she headed that direction.

So far this didn't look anything like any of the places she'd been in Kyoto, and she was entirely baffled. It was not a state of mind she enjoyed being in, either.
