Night Shift 35: M11-M20 Hall

Sep 20, 2008 19:15

[In M13 to start]Homura had spent the time for dinner in thought, to such a degree that he all but ignored Shito during the meal. He was trying to think, not like his future self would have, because that was all but impossible. Still, after his decisions that day, he wanted to take measures to help the group he had gathered. The position of ( Read more... )

It took him a bit of extra time to grab his things and get ready this evening. With his roommate there, he hadn't wanted to give away too much of where he'd hidden things or what he was up to. For tonight, he just tied on his hakama and was content with the t-shirt. Nice as the robe might be, it was in dire need of repair. Maybe he could sneak a needle and thread in the morning during their arts and crafts time.

Regardless, he tied his sword to his waist and picked up his flashlight before heading out the door. The other toys would have to wait for now.

The prosecutor turned his journal back to the page containing the notes on the experiments. Rage internally arose within him as he gazed upon that glaring penmanship error. Blasted Edgeworth!, he swore to himself. He was very tempted to just tear out the page and shred it right now, but that would destroy his valuable notes. He could merely rewrite them on another page, but were Javert to notice him doing that, it might arouse even more suspicion ( ... )

Javert had emptied his pillowcase of everything and tucked the roll of gauze, a few pens, and his journal into the greatcoat's multiple pockets. Shouldering his aluminum bat, he nodded briefly at von Karma.

"Good luck with your endeavors tonight, M. Fuchs," he said, then stepped out into the outside hallway. He had no intention of repeating last night's experience.

While Javert made his preparations to leave for wherever it was he was going, von Karma continued to study his map, memorizing the exact directions he would need to take and taking note of possible areas of refuge. When the man finally said his goodbye, von Karma returned the courtesy, nodding back politely. "The same to you, Mr. Javert ( ... )

[skipping a hallway from here]Okita didn't waste any time in getting to the appropriate hall. Each block was laid out in the same manner, so it wasn't hard to guess which hall Hijikata's room would be in. M16. Just down the way from Homura, who was likely in tonight, thanks to his current condition. By all accounts, Okita should have been staying in, too, but the healing and the bad feeling at the back of his mind had taken him out into the night. Counting the doors, Okita found M16 and paused, listening carefully to the inside ( ... )

[from here]Never in his life had he been forced to leave a battle unfinished. His enemies died by his hands or he did, it was that simple. Seeing how he was still technically alive at this point, Kenshin should have been dead. And yet, he wasn't. He was left bleeding in the hallway, but he wasn't dead. It wasn't even Okita's victory, and as he made his way down the hall, tuning out the sounds of battle and people around him, he knew it never would be ( ... )

It didn't take an awfully long time for Gumshoe to feel completely fired up again. Finding out Mr. Edgeworth had been given spirit-channeling abilities, and that they had a mysterious lawyer from the 'future' on their hands... oh and that Mr. von Karma had gone missing... It was a lot for a guy like himself to process over such a short time span!

Why, if he had a dollar for every time this place had made his head spin, he'd never need to worry about not making the rent! ... Eh, well, actually, he even doubted that.

The detective sighed, noting the absence of his roommate with a frown. Kinda felt like he'd been in the guy's way, but it was good to know he was still in one piece! After sitting in silence for who-knew-how-long, he finally headed for the door. If the prosecutor had wanted to meet him, he wouldn't have been this slow getting here.

[From here just before Gumshoe left his room, as agreed upon between me and Grace; also, very overdue (sorry ^^;; ), but this is von Karma's final post here]

After what seemed an eternity (but was actually only a few minutes), von Karma arrived back at his room. Thankfully, he had seen no other creatures around, living or dead, after leaving the patient block hallway. Though he now had several weapons at his disposal, his arms were still very strained from the earlier struggles against Edgeworth and Wright; he was unsure of how well he could defend himself at this point.

As he had done last night, he secured one of the chairs under the door handle to hinder any possible intruders. He removed his belongings from his coat's pockets, put them in their proper places, then hung the coat back up in the closet. He then lay upon his bed, holding the bat defensively in his hands in case of a break-in.

Though exhausted and sore, he was unable to sleep. So many disquieting thoughts raced through his mind. In particular, his failed ( ... )

[Continued from last comment]

As the seemingly endless night continued, von Karma eventually started to feel inexplicably drowsy, as though the events of the past two days had finally taken their toll upon him. He still gripped the bat protectively, but his hypervigilant state of mind relaxed somewhat. He gazed at the barricaded door through half-closed eyes, more concerned now about how to handle matters over the next few days than about someone breaking in.

I refuse to let them win so readily again, he thought, his weary mind full of determination. I must prevail completely over them the next time I encounter them at night. Failure of any degree is unacceptable; only absolute victory is satisfactory. No matter how long it takes to design it, my next -- and final -- plan to get revenge on Edgeworth and Mr. Wright shall succeed in full ( ... )
