Dreamless slumbers were easy. There was no thought, no images of people or places you knew or ones conjured by your imagination. It was simply you in darkness until your eyelids cracked and the darkness gave way to a light you were unwilling to greet

Instead, he walked along the stacks looking at the book titles. He didn't recognize any of them, much less the authors. He'd seen some interesting things on the bulletin board - most people believed they were in someplace called "America". Wherever they were, they weren't in Tethe'alla.
He continued to wander the stacks for a bit, seeing if there was anything that might interest him.
Or if there were any naughty mags.

And now she was in the library. Great. She scanned the books idly, all of them from the twentieth century or before. She had gone back in time. Great. Had telepaths even been bred into the human race yet?
She noticed a man browsing the books.
"Hey. I ran into you my firt night here, didn't I?"
Reply
"That's right, even though I didn't catch your name, hunny."

She'd forgotten what a pig he was. Great.
"But somehow you managed not to die."

She'd check on the girl if she could, but later. The shook off her damned nurse, ignoring suggestions of books. She didn't care much either way. She had little interest in fiction - the few bodice rippers that she'd read before had held no interest. At least the room wasn't crowded. A rather large man who looked less than happy and some strange man with long, outrageous hair were the only occupants so far.
Lust cast a glance at each and moved to a bookshelf, eyeing the titles carefully. Perhaps there'd be something useful.

Ahh, a library. Finally some place pleasantly familiar. However, this was no time for literature as he could easily steal a book when they weren't looking; this was about information. Information must be gathered to assess the surroundings better than with thine own two eyes, as well as making a few allies for the sake of… well. The time comes when people must be sacrificed for the greater good ( ... )

"An ancient religious text." Lust picked up the book and glanced over it. Her master had had one of them, a great dusty old thing bound in leather. Lust's knowledge of Christianity was sparse.
"I suppose it would be fiction to those who don't follow its tenets. I'm afraid I've never read it myself - I've heard it's rather a dull read. I'm Lust."

That name just made his smirk grow wider, taking his attention away from the worn paper. How intruging. "I would have gathered as such from your image, though for that to be your actual name?" He chuckled, leaning himself against the bookshelf. "Your parents had high expectations of you."
"You may call me Luxord, if you wish."

But first, he was going to kill his nurse. Every time a conversation started getting interesting, the slightly metallic voice of the intercom announced some other inane activity, and the cardboard smile came and gently but insistently hurried him away without giving him an opportunity to finish the conversation.
Glaring at her until her smile became slightly strained and she left ("Please interest yourself in the books, Sean. Reading is good for young minds!"), he found a corner with a good view and settled into the chair. There were two people he needed to speak with, and two more from whom he wanted information ( ... )

Nurses had interrupted his conversation with Gaara in order to usher everyone off to another place, and as irritating as that was, he was working hard to keep in mind that he should not lose his temper so easily. Naruto was beginning to feel the effects of an early-morning drugging wear off. It would suck to get another shot after waiting this out.
He only grunted to his nurse when she asked him if he was feeling better, instantly annoyed. It was going to be much harder than he thought. She left him once they reached the library, but not before patting his head once, much to his horror. What was that about? He wasn't some five-year-old kid. Naruto shook his head, irritation plain on his face, and shoved his hands into his pockets before walking further into the room ( ... )

To Sasuke, Naruto might as well complete the trio of dead people, but Naruto was uninteresting dead. Sasuke couldn't afford to think otherwise.
He was walking more steadily, so the drugs had apparently worn off. The dosage was designed for an hour or so, then. Sasuke hadn't sensed any chakra, especially not the demon fox's (and he'd recognize that chakra anywhere by now), so it couldn't have been the Kyuubi's power. Unless it had gotten a great deal more subtle over the years -- with Naruto as its host, that was highly unlikely ( ... )

The demon had had pros and cons. More importantly. They were in this bizarre situation, both victims of it, and Sasuke was still being a giant jackass. Naruto only had himself to blame: he set himself up for the fall, knowing pretty well what he was doing, and still unable to help himself. His eyes narrowed imperceptibly, flashing blue while instinct told him they were flashing red. His shoulders tensed. His heart beat in his ears.
An inward voice told him he was such a fool and he could only chime back weakly: I know, I know.
Then stronger. I just don't care.Naruto watched Sasuke do nothing, stood still and gripped his hands into fists. Though they were still shoved tightly in pockets. It was as if ( ... )

...not that he intended to do a lot of reading. Libraries were also good for quiet discussion.
He ignored the non-fiction for now, since he was mostly just going to kill time until he found one of the people he was looking for. He was pleased that he recognized at least a few of the books on the shelves, and picked up The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes. Rather than sitting, he leaned against the end of one of the bookshelves, somewhere he'd be easy enough for the dead guy he was waiting for to see him - and failing that, somewhere he'd be able to spot the non-Elena confused blonde if she went wandering by.
He allowed himself a bemused smile as he turned to "The Resident Patient" and started reading. He knew the story well enough he could pay attention to what was going on around him, too.

Right now, she wandered, wondering about the people she was to meet here. She didn't disappear into the stacks, so she would be easy to see. Instead, she simply let her eyes skim over the various titles. They were all books she'd find in a Barnes & Noble - this really was America, then...?

He closed the book and stepped behind the girl. "Funny," he said. "You don't look that confused."
Reply
She gave him a small, playful grin. "Really? And here I thought I had that 'dumb blond' look."
