Nightshift 34: Main Hallway, 1-West

[from here]The shinigami padded silently down the hallway, keeping to the left-side wall and her hand upon her sword's hilt. Her eyes scanned the area surorunding her as she continued on to the next hallway, especially the nurses' stations as she neared them. This would be a horrible time for her to get attacked by a nurse or two. Thankfully, ( Read more... )

The Star Dragon Sword paused in his journey to take in the newest hallway. Amber eyes carefully glanced down either side to search for any threats, but when none presented itself, the Night Rune continued his journey.

This was part of the main hall, wasn't it? Anise wondered if it was wide enough to test her puppet here. Unfortunately, it looked like being one of the first out of the rooms had its drawbacks: since there weren't any people waving their flashlights around in the area, Anise could hardly see anything no matter how hard she squinted!

Whether the location was good or not, she would just have to wait until after she met up with Ion. There was no point in trying things out if she couldn't even hope to see the results!

Somewhat disappointed, the girl continued down the hall, feeling along the left wall to make sure she didn't miss her turn.

Mello gripped the flashlight tightly as he entered the main hallway. Normally, he would waited for someone else to play monster-bait, but today, there simply wasn't time.

Once SubZero reached the main hallway he was faced with a choice. Should he try to go upstairs, or head for the basement again. There would probably be very tough opponents in his path if he tried to go to the basement, though that's where the man on the radio had said Dr. Landel was.

On the other hand, he could go exploring upstairs, there might be something worth checking out up there. With his full powers he would've gone towards the basement, but with the restrictions he currently had using his powers to make an ice blast would leave him too vulnerable immediately after to risk going up against a tough enemy alone.

Ah ha! She was right! The hallway came to a T right at the end. Now, if she remembered right, she would have to make a left to get to the Sunny Room. If she made a right that was where the stairs were... right?

... Maybe she should have asked Meesy if she could take the maps with her. Too late now. Harley would just have to trust in her ability to--

"EEEEEEEEEEEE!!" She jumped nearly three feet and squealed before she even realized what she was doing. Her flashlight had suddenly hit the body of some... guy who was just standing there for some stupid reason. She put a hand to her chest relieved it was just some other patient. The relief was short lived though.

"Hey! What's the big idea?!" Harley demanded, suddenly outraged like this was his fault. "Ya nearly gave me a heart attack!"

The darkness of the hallway was unfortunately interrupted by someone waving a flashlight around, and more specifically aiming it at him. A very girly, high pitched scream followed and SubZero turned towards the source of it.

A short, skinny blond girl with a flash light and a funny accent. "If just standing here is enough to give you a heart attack I'd hate to think what actually getting jumped a monster here would do to you," SubZero responded dryly, looking the girl over. Definitely not the fighting type.

Oh jeez. Crab-by.

"Well, whatcha expect just standin' there in the middle of the hallway? Ya gotta sick sense of humor." Not that she was one to talk. "What's the matter? Ya lost?"

Not that she could really help. She had only tried memorizing the paths to the specific areas on the map she'd been interested in. But there was always the chance that he might have been looking for one of said areas, so it didn't exactly hurt to ask.

Yes, this was a hallway she remembered more clearly. It was around this one that she had started paying more attention to her surroundings than to what the nurse had been saying. It had looked like one of the larger halls and, if she recalled correctly, she could reach both the cafeteria and the Sun Room from here.

Now all that remained was to decide which way to go. She mentally dismissed the cafeteria and Sun Room, thinking instead on what would be in another direction. Looking for an exit was her first priority, but it was unlikely that she would find it in the building's entrance. All of the other doors she had come across had been unlocked, but would she really be lucky enough to find the entrance unlocked? Someone would have surely escaped through it already if it were. ...Right?

Or... Maybe there was an exit somewhere else. Yes, that seemed like a possibility. She would just have to decide which way to go first.

[From here]Scar managed to reach the main hallway without any difficulties, and scanned the area for threats and patients alike. It wasn't overly crowded in here just yet, and two of them were interacting with one another. There was one person - a female - standing by herself. The woman had a rather odd mane-color (or hair, as humans called it). Green certainly wasn't a very common color for hair to have. But he was referring to a human, not a zebra ( ... )

Elincia had just been in the middle of debating with herself whether going straight down the hallway or turning into the nearby one was a better idea, when she remembered the object she'd taken from the room with her. It took her a few moments to find how to make it produce light again but soon found it was actually simpler than she had first thought. She turned around to shine it behind her only to find... a man nearly in front of her.

"Oh!" she gasped as she took a step back. What? How had someone sneaked up on her like that? He had really startled her. Her heart was pounding. …It was the dark. That had to be what had her so on edge. "I... I apologize. I hadn't expected anyone to come near me. My apologies..."

Straightening into a more relaxed position, she tried to take a better look at him. He was a rather thin man, didn't really look dangerous either. In fact, he reminded her of some of the laguz in Gallia in the way he carried himself. "Ah... Good evening, sir."

The ability to sneak around quietly and catch prey off guard was something that any predator had to know well. It was basically the point to get near someone without that person expecting it.

And if Scar had managed to do so without even trying...this woman was either new, or incredibly dumb. Any other sensible person would at least keep his or her guard up in a place like this...

Oh, it was his lucky day, wasn't it?

"Are you one of the new arrivals, then?" he asked nonchalantly, still remaining proper. And even if she wasn't, stupidity didn't equal uselessness.
