Day 34: Intercom, Dawn

Jul 30, 2008 04:33

The sun broke over the horizon, casting its light over the areas that patients had newly discovered just hours before. The entrance to the mine, the old town, the lake... they all looked less sinister in the early morning glow than they had by the light of the moon, but none of the patients would know this because none of them were there to see it ( Read more... )

Kuchiki-taichou moved to take his place at the healer's side, and Hanatarou suddenly felt ice running in his veins, his eyes fixing straight ahead. His throat was too tight to even say a polite greeting without squeaking, so he decided it was wise just to stay silent. The 6th Division vice-captain was already in Hueco Mundo, part of the group they were going to assist, and all the other captains in the group had their vice-captains, so it technically made sense that Hanatarou go with Kuchiki-taichou. It did absolutely nothing to help his nerves, though. The last time he'd been this close to the captain it had been just outside of Senzaikyuu and that hadn't really been a good experience for him. At all.

His movements were stiff and wooden as he forced himself to walk with Kuchiki-taichou toward the gate, catching a flicker of Hell Butterfly wings out of the corner of his eye but not daring to look anywhere else but forward, feeling sweat trickling down his back and the gate was closer and closer and -- he stepped through. There was no ( ... )

Fortunately, the wait really wasn't all that long before the door finally opened, but it was long enough for Hanatarou to have imagined a hundred different possibilities of what had happened and where he was. For a startled instant he considered diving underneath the bed, but then he caught sight of the person entering and just blinked.

It was...well, she looked like a nurse from the human world, but he wasn't supposed to be in the human world. Nor in a hospital, though there was obviously something wrong with his gigai. Confused by the surroundings, by the vague explanation the supposed nurse gave him, and by the fact that the woman kept calling him "John" for reasons he couldn't understand, Hanatarou only obediently followed where he was led without speaking a word in protest. Hopefully something would start to make sense soon.

Rainier woke slowly, much more slowly than her normally would have, feeling sluggish and tired, his thoughts fuzzy. What he could remember though meant that he wasn't surprised by his current condition. Escaping the spooky house with Surreal and watching Lucivar break free with the man who'd created it, stumbling into the coach with help from Lucivar and Daemon, his leg held together (barely) with an opal shield and Jaenelle's power and not much else. He was probably at the Hall, then. He couldn't still be in the coach. He couldn't feel the wind that they were riding ( ... )

Wally woke with a jerk from dreams of a too-slow world blanketed in grey and shook himself. Third time he'd had that nightmare this week. He stretched, blinking sleep from his eyes, then stopped as he took in his surroundings. This definitely wasn't his apartment in Central. He didn't think it was any of the rooms on the Watchtower either. The flat whiteness of the room practically screamed 'hospital' at him, and he sure as hell didn't remember any reason why he should be in any place like that ( ... )

Her task finished, Callisto wasn't entirely sure what would happen next. She'd have to return to Hell and face Him to see if he would really grant the promised reward. What she didn't expect was the blackout that occurred the moment she started to return ( ... )

There was a knock on the door, answers supposedly coming to call. The woman who answered smiled, but the burly man beside her only gave so much credibility to her cheerful tones. "Oh, awake already, Miss Burns?" Stepping into the room, the nurse made a note on the chart she carried. "Welcome to Landel's Institute. Are you hungry? There's a wonderful breakfast being served in the cafeteria."

She was hungry, but that was besides the point. Callisto squinted into the oddly unnatural light that came in through the open doorway. Who was this woman? An Institute? Like a school?

But her name wasn't 'Miss Burns,' making the whole situation all the more confusing. She didn't like the name anyway. It sounded like a mockery of her preference for fire.

"What did you call me?" she asked with a glare.

And so it started. The nurse resisted a small urge to sigh, though she knew it was always this way with the new ones. "Miss Burns. Sarah Burns is your name, dear." She would be patient with this one, however. She really was hoping for a peaceful day, and so long as she didn't lose her temper, maybe her patients wouldn't turn out to be troublesome ones.

Yuuri woke up with a start as he bolted to sit up in his bed. The sheets that had been covering his body flew out in front of him to block his vision momentarily before the material resettled back on his lap. Expecting to find the familiar sight of his bathroom, the young Maou was thoroughly confused when he found himself instead confronted by the image of what appeared to be a hospital room ( ... )

Maybe this was someone's attempt at a practical joke? He didn't really think his parents or Shori would ever do anything like this to him, and it really didn't seem like Murata's idea of a joke either. Speaking of Murata; was he also being held in one of the other rooms? Or worse. What if they'd put him in a straight jacket and locked him up in the basement of the institution?! Yuuri's eyes widened impossibly large at the thought, and within the next moment, he resolved in breaking his friend out. "Umm… there didn't happen to be another boy with me when I got here ( ... )
