Daemon slipped into the room with him, his own hand tightly grasping the jagged staff he carried. His gaze narrowed as he searched, sweeping the room with his flashlight beam. "Shh," he cautioned the boy. "Let's make sure we're not alone just yet, yes?"

They weren't alone.

The skittering was almost silent, surprisingly so for a creature this size. It clung to the ceiling, not quite directly above Daemon's head, but close. It waited there, searching for the right moment to launch itself at his back.

Another step forward from him should do the trick.

John glanced around the room, anxious as he stepped further into the room. Where had it been hiding last time? "It was on the ceiling," he said, answering his unspoken question out loud as he looked up. John's blood went cold as he saw the spider dangling above them and he gasped, leaping back and knocking over a stack of papers.

"Up there!" he shouted. "Above you!"

Daemon stepped towards the wall, jagged staff in hand as golden eyes narrowed intently on the spider dangling above him. It was much larger than he'd anticipated, but that could be a good thing.

"Well, you'll do me little good up there," he crooned, sinking into a predatory crouch as he circled below the large creature, taking in his surroundings, looking for a place where he would have an advantage against a spider as big - if not bigger - than he was.
