Nightshift 33: Experimental Treatments Laboratory

[from here]

The first sweep of his flashlight's beam revealed six beds covered by crisp white linens.  Although he knew that the room's purpose must have been dark, there was nothing sinister about the space itself.  A desk in the corner held a computer identical to the ones he'd seen in the library, but Mello didn't waste any time trying to boot ( Read more... )

[ Coming from here.]

Moving quickly through the Decontamination room, Daemon led the way into the room where he'd fought the leftover with his father and Lucivar. Again, the room showed signs that they were not the first to come here this night, but luckily, the little box he though John might be looking for still sat on the desk against the far wall.

"Is that it?" he asked, pointing in that direction.

John felt dizzy as Daemon led him through the maze of corridors and rooms but the moment he saw the computer all confusion was gone. "Yes," he nodded, rushing over to it. "Yes, this is it. It's perfect."

John fiddled around with the switches, hoping there was enough power for the computer to turn on. "Come on, come on," he said, hitting the power button. Nothing seemed to be working.

"Shit, it won't turn on," he frowned. "But it's ok. If I can get it back to my room maybe I can see if it will plug in. If not, I'll scrap it for parts."

"Nothing works at night," Daemon murmured in reminder as he moved to come up beside the desk where John stood fumbling with the box. He shined his flashlight on the object, looking to see if there was a way to move it. "It seems to be attached to the desk."

"It's ok," John said, staring at the tower. He began to jimmy the side off, revealing the inside of the computer. John smiled and began unhooking the wires to the harddrive, slipping it into his bag. "All I need are the parts anyway."

It was a bit sloppy but John was able to wiggle the motherboard out of the tower. He wrapped it up in his t-shirt before placing it gingerly into the bag. "It's useless right now," he said to Daemon. "But if I can find some tools maybe I can rig them up to a monitor some night."

He threw the wires and the powersupply in the bag for good measure, nodding his head once he gutted the computer. John wasn't entirely sure why but just having the computer parts made him feel better.

Daemon wasn't sure what the boy could possibly do with the things he broke out of the box, but considering he'd just slaughtered a spider for silk, he supposed they each had their own talents. Whatever those might be.

"Satisfied now?" he asked mildly, a faint look of bemusement flickering across his face.
