[from here]Once in the stairwell, Beatrix clicked her flashlight for a brief moment to illuminate the ascent, solidifying it in her mind, before shutting the light off again. Climbing stairs slowed her down, but she was leaving the safety of the first floor, so more caution was needed

If that was the case, he wouldn't have to worry about dying tonight. Unfortunately, he also couldn't engineer anyone's death, which he found irritating. What would happen if he were to directly kill someone? Would they seem to die, or simply vanish? Too many questions, not enough answers. He gripped his flashlight as he moved up the stairs, then through the doorway at the top.

Okay, going down the stairs was more problematic than she thought it would be. She'd forgotten about the snake bite. Thankfully, it hadn't been venomous, but it still pulled at her with every downward step.
Hmph.

The hallway above seemed quiet - suspiciously so. Javert narrowed his eyes and tightened his grip on the bat. He'd heard it was normally populated with Landel's creatures. Why was it empty now?
He advanced cautiously.

Claire slipped into the stairwell, stepping out of the way so her dad could come in with her, even while she paused. Stepping into dark new areas now made her wary and she hesitated to sweep the beam of her flashlight up the stairwell and into all the dark corners. She didn't want anything jumping out at her halfway up, after all.
"It seems empty," she whispered to her dad.

"Stay behind me, okay?" he told her, as they began to make their way up the stairs.

"Where did you go last night? Were you here last night?"
The remembrance of last night sent a shudder down her spine and she unconsciously reached out to grasp the back of her dad's shirt. She hoped there was no one waiting for them at the top of the stairs.

"I kept myself to the first floor, but I wasn't able to make much progress." Talking about what he did also reminded him of the Chapel located on the 2nd floor. If they had time, then it would be another good area to investigate.
"What about you?" he asked". "What else did you do before I got here?"

Itachi moved up the stairs decisively, not even thinking of asking if Kunzite would prefer another route.
"We are supposed to collect useful items. Have you been on a mission like this before?" Though Itachi did not want to seem in a less informed position than Kunzite, it would be best to find out if he knew anything about this kind of task.

"Nothing this...general, you might say," he replied sternly. "Last night I was tasked to collect metal from one of the bathrooms, but in my foolishness I forgot to acquire the tools necessary to disassemble the various fixtures I found there." Still following behind his companion, he paused to collect his thoughts. "I cannot imagine it would involve anything more than rummaging through the rooms and chancing upon anything that might be useful. Homura mentioned medical supplies, tools, metal, and objects for barter...I think our priority should be the tools and any metal we might find."
