Nightshift 33: Main Hallway, 1-West

Jul 09, 2008 09:48

[from here]He knew he was out early now; the main hallways like this one usually had at least one or two other people scurrying about even when he was rushing through. Not yet though, but that was just as well. He took the usual right and kept along the wall just in case his senses just weren't picking up on some kind of threat. Being quick did not ( Read more... )

Leon entered the hall slowly, glad he wasn't the first to come that way. He stayed by the corner into the woman's block, in sight but in a place where he could flee easily if need be. It looked like he had indeed arrived first. Now he just hoped Kadaj hadn't been one of those taken for the experimental trials. He didn't know what he'd do if that was the case. (Find others, certainly.)

He'd brought one of the doctor coats again, his book and flashlight tucked securely in the pockets. Despite the length, he felt it made him look more professional. It was comforting, if nothing else.

"You're just saying that to keep me quiet." They already knew where they were going, so Leon began walking towards the staircase with his flashlight in hand. "Besides, I don't know what irritates you and what doesn't. You want to take these stairs or a different set?"

It was only luck that dictated if they ran into something along the way. One set of stairs up might be closer than another, but then something could easily block their path just getting to those. If anything was irritating, it was that.

A few more hallways to go. Grasping onto her pipe once again - careful to have her grasp loose this time - Bella lifted her flashlight and peered around the hallway. There appeared to be a few people wandering around - that was good, at least. Meant she wasn’t completely alone, like last time.

Sighing, she continued on. She only hoped Edward wouldn’t be too angry with her.

"Bella?" Edward slunk into the ring of light in front of her slowly, face concerned. He knew he'd asked her to wait for him to arrive at her room - and on the other hand, he knew she hardly did what he requested when it concerned her safety.

Then again, he was quite paranoid.

In this case though, it was warranted. Two nights ago - blood outside her room, with the smell of a vampire. One that he knew wasn't Angel, which would have been slightly less discerning. And last night, with what had happened to him.

He stepped closer, lifting a hand to softly land on her shoulder. "You're rather impatient, aren't you?" His tone was disapproving, but he wasn't going to go on a all-out rampage. Yet.

Uh oh, met half way. Bella looked up to Edward with a sheepish grin, a shrug rolling off of her shoulders as she felt his hand fall upon her clothed skin. “I … didn’t want to wait. I wanted to meet you half way.” There was no way she could tell him the real reason - that she was afraid he wasn’t coming, that she had to see for herself if he was in or not. At least being met half way was better than waiting for him to enter her room.

Smile having fallen from her face as she spoke, her eyes looked towards the ground for a moment as her grip on her pipe once again tightened into a near death grip.

After a few seconds of silence, Bella’s eyes lifted and she gazed at Edward with a slightly curious expression. “So, any plans for tonight? I still refuse to go to the chapel, so don’t even bother suggesting it.”

Sighing, he understood instantly; the only reason he swayed his tongue. "I'm sorry. You were worried, weren't you?" He couldn't fault her for that - if the opposite had occured, the situation would remain the same. Leaning in to her, he pressed his lips against her forehead, before moving away, his own pipe gribbed in white knuckles.

Though her tone was final, he could not help but ask. "Are you positive? You shouldn't have to carry that wound. I don't care if you pass it to me, if that's what worries you. My skin heals much easier than yours." As if to bring attention to said injury, his hand dropped from her shoulder to dance lightly across the bandages, treading through the dried blood that has soaked through.

Things were starting to look more and more familiar. Yeah. He'd gone down this hallway and passed a couple of other halls. Haseo consulted his map to make sure he turned the right direction in order to head to the same place as the night before. "I turned this way here." and with that, down the proper Hall the rogue went. Hopefully he didn't keep anyone waiting around.

She got there first! Kairi couldn’t help but feel a surge of pride burst through her, and she grinned as she leaned against one of the walls, her hands clasped behind her as she pointed the flashlight beam towards the ground. She really didn’t want to gain any attention in her weaponless state.

Maybe the radio would give them a good gift tonight.

The hallway was pretty crowded, probably because lots of other people had also decided to meet up around here. It didn't take Sora took long to spot Kairi among everyone else, though, and he weaved through the other patients to get to her.

"Hey!" he greeted with a wave, figuring he didn't need to bother keeping his voice down when it was still so early in the night.

"So did you hear all of that earlier?" He figured it would have been pretty hard to miss, but she might have been sleeping or something.

Kairi’s smile instantly grew when she saw Sora, and she pushed herself away from the wall so she could take a few steps towards him. “Hmm, I didn’t wait long this time. Good job!”

The mention of what was heard earlier - on the radio and intercom, she realized - had the once princess frowning, her arms crossing over her chest as she nodded her head. “Yeah. It’s … pretty weird, huh? And kind of scary. I mean, what were they talking about? You don’t … think it’s going to really change things, do you? I mean, I’m sure something will be different, but …” for bad or for good, she couldn’t tell.

Shaking her head, Kairi sighed and ran a hand through her hair. “but … there’s really nothing we could do, huh? So enough of that. What about our thing for tonight? Nothing from the radio yet?”

Sora was glad to hear that he hadn't kept her waiting, but he was soon distracted by Kairi's comments about what they had heard earlier.

"I don't really know what's going on, but we're probably supposed to be confused, right?" This place never wanted to make things easy for them to understand, so it wasn't surprising that that was the case now. "What was that noise, though?" He hadn't quite been able to tell where it had come from, but it had to mean that something had gone wrong.

At Kairi's second question, Sora glanced down at the radio in his left hand and shrugged. "Nothing yet, but that stuff earlier was on the radios too, so maybe we should try and figure that out?" Then again, another broadcast might be coming soon, so they might also want to wait for that.

Ugh, too many people were already out. She kept having to dodge them and it slowed her down which wasn't helping her temper any. She wanted to check on both of them ideally, but she'd check with Gin first and then see about Renji.
