Nightshift 33: Main Hallway, 1-West

Jul 09, 2008 09:48

[from here]He knew he was out early now; the main hallways like this one usually had at least one or two other people scurrying about even when he was rushing through. Not yet though, but that was just as well. He took the usual right and kept along the wall just in case his senses just weren't picking up on some kind of threat. Being quick did not ( Read more... )

The main hallway was quiet, though Leon really wasn't all that surprised. He'd all but bolted from the room as soon as the Head Doctor had finished speaking. He flipped off his flashlight and stuck to the shadows as much as possible. Something might turn up here sooner or later, and he wanted to avoid combat as much as possible tonight.

At least one good thing about being here so "long", Clark thought darkly, was he could at least manage to make it this far without getting lost too much. Gotta focus. If he kept thinking like that, he'd start thinking about his family and friends and get so worried again that he'd feel frozen to the spot. Clark's flashlight was on but angled to the floor as he stepped into the larger main hall, feeling the space open up even if he couldn't see all of it.

Leon looked up as a few other patients entered the hall. Most of them had their flashlights on, which made it easier to see. Leon was nearly at the stairs when he caught sight of a relatively familiar face.

"Clark?" he asked quietly. "It's Leon-- we met a couple nights ago. You're the one from Kansas, right?" He hoped that he was right in his guess. Clark was just a kid, and while Leon had been planning on going it alone tonight, he didn't want to leave Clark wandering around the institute on his own. If something happened to him...

Clark jumped a little, not seeing Leon at first.

"Y-yeah, that's me," he said, heart thudding in his chest from his first surprise of the night. At least it wasn't one of those things. Peering at Leon in the weak light, he did remember meeting him. "What're you doing here?"

And wasn't that a dumb question? He was probably doing the exact same thing Clark was.

[ Coming from here.]

The halls were quiet - almost eerily so, but Max wasn't hesitating. She was almost there after all, and although she was still extremely irritated, a few moments to clear her head was abating the urge to punch the first idiot she came across. Which was probably a good thing, at the moment.

Allen padded quietly to the end of the hall and rounded the corner toward the next. It looked like he'd probably be the first one there tonight. He just hoped Rinali didn't make them worry like she had before. The sooner they got moving, usually the further they could make it before the night ended.

The crowd thinned as some individuals departed through other doors. A few lingered in the main hallway; one extinguished his lantern, but Kunzite chose to keep his on to better be on the alert for the arrival of his fellow club members. "By the stairwell near the patient rooms," Kunzite muttered, swinging the light from right to left and noticing two sets of stairs. He shrugged is shoulders and moved to the flight closest to the western-most set of rooms, leaning against the south wall with arms crossed in steady patience.

Itachi came out into the main hallway, and glanced ahead at the stairs. No one, but further down there was also a flight of stairs, and there he recognized Kunzite from their first meeting with Homura. Itachi made his way over, nodding in greeting.

"Kunzite, yes? I am Itachi, if you remember. Shito is not here yet?"

Kunzite's mouth crooked in a smirk as he touched his right hand to his left breast and bowed shallowly.

"Itachi, yes, I do recall meeting you ever so briefly. An honor." He stood up again, then swept his light into the hallway, expecting to see the third member of their company. "No, I have seen no one else approach either of the stairwells yet. Hopefully we should not have to wait much longer; I found last night to last far too short for our designated mission."

Itachi blinked, not knowing what to make of Kunzite's gesture. Such formalities only masked meanings.

He looked around for Shito as well. Yes, it would be better if they could progress as soon as possible; if he did not keep himself occupied, Itachi would have difficulty not dwelling on uncomfortable thoughts. "Time seems to pass strangely here," he answered neutrally. "And the nights end far too abruptly." Outside of their own control, like everything else.

The map had been right, and she'd been right too. A quick scan of the area with her flashlight revealed stairwells, and people.

Yuffie tilted her head slightly. Not as many as she'd expected, though... People must still be holed up in their rooms, preparing or something. Huh. What was the point in that? Getting out while it was still early was the way to get things done!

Walking towards the eastern-most stairwell, Yuffie ran her hand against the wall lightly. The hallway continued on, and there was a branch that led north, towards more dorms.

She hesitated.

[From Here]Stepping into the main hallway, he paused to look around for any familiar patients that he could form an alliance with for the night. He had not seen Gin much lately, and he really should pay the death-god (or something spiritual) a visit to see if Gin had more information regarding the outside or the basement. He still had not managed to get his way to the basement, but at least he could say that he had taken a crack at the second floor after a few days of doing very little. He blamed that on the medication ( ... )

Yuffie decided on the 'scenic route' further down the hallway. She didn't know if it actually was scenic. Really, it was probably just as miserable and drab as the rest of this place, and about as interesting as a pair of Godo's old slippers.

But, as something of an optimist, Yuffie was all geared up and ready for this place to surprise her.

She didn‘t notice until it was too late.

Maybe it was a mark of how well she knew him- his footsteps, his presence, his Cloudyness.

Or maybe, it was a mark of how little she'd been paying attention (because Tifa was the one with the Cloud-radar, not her, and she sure as hell didn't want one, either!): it was too late, and it was only recognition and quick reflexes that stopped her from reacting more violently.

“My fist’ll mosey it’s way into your face if you sneak up on me like that again!” She yelped. She felt a small amount of pride that she hadn't jumped out of her skin, but now she swung her head around sharply to glare at him.

He was so gonna pay for this.

Raising an eyebrow, Cloud was actually quite surprised she had not attempted to land a fist in the middle of his face. He had been fully prepared to intercept her fist too, but perhaps she really had known that he had come up behind her. He must have been losing his touch.

"I was under the impression that no one could sneak up on the Great Ninja Yuffie of Wutai," he murmured and eased himself backwards a step. In case she now decided to punch at him. "Besides, I doubt you know how to really throw a good punch in the first place."

He pointed down the hallway. "Where were you off to? Not all that safe to be wandering around on your own. Safety in numbers, no?"
