Day 33: Intercom, Evening

Jul 07, 2008 01:49

"Good evening, patients and staff!" the Head Doctor said just as the intercom's usual jingle ended. Strangely, he seemed even more tense now than he had been throughout the day, though as he continued to speak, he seemed to get back into the usual swing of things. "I hope you all had very productive outdoor activities today and helpful therapy ( Read more... )

Miku ended her day earlier than usual, wanting to have a little more quiet than the constant babble of conversations in the Sun Room would have. She needed to be sure of things, work on things, prepare and plan for things. But then, as always when the photographer left herself alone with her thoughts, came questions.

Would that monstrous statue in the chapel still be there this evening? What would Sagara's face look like when he noticed that all was not well in the body of his charge? Was Ritsuka okay? He had to be, he had that person, that Seimei with him all the time now. She sat at her desk and tapped her pen against the paper of her journal. Lust probably wouldn't speak to her.

But that was fine, she'd just wait for Sagara to appear.

Celes felt perhaps more guilty than usual. She'd been remiss in her duties as a both a soldier and as a General, but perhaps, with this only little push, she could fix it. Celes needed to fix it. Her meal, as always, was set out neatly before her. Things, that she finally recognized as food, no doubt thanks to Palazzo's odd love of his strange food.

She turned over a meatball with her fork. Perhaps the court mage had enjoyed his food so much simply because it was so damnably red. It couldn't be helped, really. Everyone in the castle had something in the Empire's colors.

Even Celes. It was a shame, really, that she'd not made it to the greenhouse. Perhaps some time with the stillness of plants would've helped her collect herself. For now, it was just that she sit and wait for her young roommate in silence.

"Heyyy, Celes!" Mion had given her roommate a wave and a somewhat forced greeting as the nurse got her into the room, sitting down and getting ready to eat. The announcements were coming on, though, so conversation would have had to wait...

At first, Mion had honestly been looking forward to eating. After meeting Shion, and having an overall normal day beforehand... well, eating would have been nice. Thinking about everything, contemplating over a meal and she'd even finally get to ask Celes if she had seen Larsa recently, Mion had been wanting to talk to him for a few days now after all.

Of course, the voice on the intercom had another plan for Mion this night. So bluntly, so calmly announcing something like that...!! Mion gripped her bedsheets tight, tight to the point that her knuckles turned white. Food temporarily forgotten, Mion lowered her head to stare at the meal before her.

Celes nodded at the younger girl and carefully rolled noodles into her spoon, trying to think of how to start a proper conversation that didn't involve numerous apologies. It was highly difficult. "Miss Mion," she greeted quietly. As usual, their conversation petered out as the evening announcements began.

It was, however disquieting to hear that the same experiments that they'd performed upon Mion were going to be continued again. She frowned as she prepared. "Miss Mion, it is my suggestion you eat and keep your strength," she said gently. The men she'd not-yet-met but would have to work with tonight were coming as soon as possible. "Please do not worry." It really made her wish that she could do more for the young woman.

"Yeah, right... Eat," Mion's dull response came out, well, dully. She was angry they were happening again, sure, but with that came the thought that right now, someone else might be getting dragged out of his or her room for who knows what, and... Mion shook her head to rid herself of the thought and decided to do her best at taking Celes' advice and not worry ( ... )

The time in the greenhouse was well-spent, it seemed, as Yukito was feeling much more like himself as he was led back to his room. Even after a pause to wash up on the way back, he found that the other half of the room was still empty once he arrived, and he was mildly disappointed not to see this "roommate" of his. That was all right, though, since there was still time before nightfall, and he had the prospect of mealtime to distract him. And once he was done eating, he wanted to take a good look at that bundle he'd found himself carrying the night before, and try to figure out exactly what was in it.

Yukito greeted his dinner with his usual enthusiasm, but was mildly disappointed to find that the so-called "generous portion" really didn't come anywhere near his usual standards. Still, though, food was food, and there was even cake and ice cream to go with it. That was never a bad thing.

The other half of the room wasn't going to stay empty for long. Ken was herded in, having insisted on staying a little longer in the greenhouse in order to properly make sure the plant he'd just repotted got watered well and placed in a good corner. Having done all that just to come in the next week and see the plant dead would've been just wonderful.

He walked in and stopped short for a second as the door closed behind him. What the hell, could he not keep a roommate anymore?

"Uh, hi."

Though Yukito had tried to pace himself and eat slowly to make it seem like he had more food, it wasn't working very well. By the time his roommate arrived he'd already finished dessert (to make sure the ice cream didn't melt before it was inedible, of course) and was well into the spaghetti. It wasn't nearly as good as what he got at the Kinomoto residence, but then, nothing really compared to that.

When Ken entered, Yukito hastily swallowed the latest mouthful and paused to wipe his mouth with the napkin before turning to greet the new arrival. "Hello," he replied, cheerfully. "I'm Tsukishiro Yukito. Nice to meet you."

"Hidaka Ken. Nice to meet you, too." The guy was eating like he'd been starved.

"...you want half of mine? I doubt I'm going to eat all this."

Meatballs! What a fucking pathetic excuse for red meat, full of bread crumbs and other crap filler, and yet it was the closest thing Farfarello had gotten all day. Add that to the extremely twitchy mood he'd been in to start with, and it was a very, very tense situation. Farfarello really hoped that Roland was in a better mood than he had been the previous evening, because otherwise there was sure to be blood this time.

Thankfully, Roland wasn't quite as hungry as he had been the previous night. He wasn't stuffed, but having a nice juicy bit of dog had gone a long way to satisfying his hunger. Now, if only he could get more tonight, things would be much, much better as a result.

Once more the demon pushed his food to the side, frowning as he noticed Farfarello twitching and seeming on edge. The cannibal lightly whistled as he gathered some batteries, just in case he'd need some extra juice. "...I'm guessing things didn't go so well?"

Farfarello shook his head and muttered, "More like things went too well. No monsters. Smooth sailing." Except for getting delayed by Wesker, but that wasn't really worth mentioning.

Thoroughly disgusted and very much running out of patience, Farfarello threw his dinner plate at the wall, sending spaghetti splattering everywhere. He stalked over to his closet and rummaged around for a moment, eventually pulling out the bottle of whiskey he'd stolen from Lecter's office. A drink might help. A little. Maybe.

"Sorry to hear that." That was all he said, though he kept himself even-tempered even as Farfarello threw that plate and shattered it. At least it hadn't been directed at him. Though as time went on, Roland was starting to wonder if he might not need a bit of a intervention.

...the bottle of whiskey. Roland couldn't stop an involuntary hiss through his teeth, his free hand convulsively reaching for it before he stopped himself. He'd missed the taste for so long, and there it was. Damn the luck!

Though he did not look forward to being trapped in a small room with his meathead of a roommate, at least Leon could take comfort in being away from the scrutiny of the nurses for a little while. He wouldn't have to pretend to be nice, and that was a relief.

Also, there was cake and ice cream. All told, it was probably a fair exchange for having to deal with Clark.

Clark was left feeling far more confused than he felt comfortable with as the day ended. His whole conversation with Logan threw a monkey wrench at him, sending him skidding to a stop and trying to change his direction. Talking to Claire left him feeling disheartened about this search about the Haitian, nevermind her confession to him out of the blue that she had super human healing powers. Clark didn't think she was from Krypton, like he was, because he was pretty sure if she was mentioning powers, she would've mentioned the whole fire-from-your-eyes thing. But she hadn't known about meteorites either, so it didn't look like she was kryptonite infected either ( ... )

Leon had already finished with the spaghetti by the time Clark arrived, and was slowly working on the delicious chocolate cake. He'd even had time to briefly entertain the fantasy that Clark had been taken away for experiments or otherwise had disappeared, leaving Leon temporarily free of a roommate entirely.

Alas.

So, Leon responded to Clark's greeting with a vague mumble, and kept an eye on Clark's slice of cake. Maybe his roomie didn't like cake--it was considered girly and childish to like sweets, right?
