Day 33: Doctor's Office 10 (Dr. Burroughs)

Jun 26, 2008 13:52

Some would say morning came too soon this day. For Maggie, on the other hand, morning couldn't come quick enough. Not that she wasn't narrowly avoiding sleep in any possible way she could as it was, but it was the sentiment of the entire thing. She arrived a bit later than some of her colleges again, but it didn't bother her so long as she could ( Read more... )

Gumshoe had asked his nurse what all this 'therapy' business was about at least five times as he was being forced from his room, adjusting to his unkindly bright surroundings and trying to remember if they'd broken up the fight in the sun room or-

"H-Hey, pal!" He grit his teeth, stopping the nurse in her tracks by jabbing an accusing finger at her. Things were going too fast for his liking! "Let a guy wake up before you drag him out of bed! I haven't even had breakfast yet!"

"Which is entirely your fault for sleeping in, Mr. Coleman," she shot back, pulling on his arm again when it fell limp in defeat. "This won't do. I won't have you speaking to Maggie like this."

"S-sorry, ma'am. I didn't-..." ...!? "M-M-Maggey...?" he whispered, biting his lip on impulse. Oh man, had she- what was she doing here? Had she called in sick to check on him? Why would a girl like that bother to visit a place like this, anyway? Just... just for him...? Now that was unlikely, but since he wasn't her superior anymore, were there any other reasons a ( ... )

"Sure," he grumbled under his breath, gaze wandering around the office. He was still for a moment, setting his narrowed eyes on the woman once the shock had passed and sitting heavily. "For the last time, lady," he sighed in frustration, "It's Gumshoe! Detective Dick Gumshoe!"

... Oh, now look what he'd gone and done! Taken out his anger on a complete stranger; someone who was there to help him, for all he knew! His furious expression was quick to fade into one of discomfort ( ... )

Surprisingly, Maggie didn't snap in her already less than pleased mood. In fact, she even smiled. "It's fine,... Gumshoe." It was silly, but who was she to fight it? She spent weeks calling a patient John because no one knew his real name, so it wasn't like she hadn't done something in the weird department before.

Not that it hadn't gotten more weird than that.

"And Maggie's fine. I understand, being here is stressful. And, believe me, I'm trying to make it better however I can." She smiled again and pulled a spare mug from the inside of her desk. "How about I pour you some coffee and you tell me a little about yourself, okay?"
