The intercom slowly crackled to life and the Head Doctor was silent for a good few seconds before a cold laugh rattled through his breaths.
"So, now even my adversaries are breaking up into factions? Dangerous, dangerous games are being played here, my pets, and you should pay heed to the contradictions of your so-called heroes if you don't want to choke when you try to pull free of my leash."
The Head Doctor paused, and there was something off about it, like he was thinking too hard about what he was supposed to say next, or perhaps he was truly shocked about some strange aspect of this turn of events. In any case, he sighed and continued with all the exasperated condescension of a villainous megalomaniac, all uncertainty squashed out of his tone.
"In any case, I do believe I've let you roam long enough, haven't I? Yes, yes, I hope you made use of my little gift, because it will be the only reprieve that I bestow upon your poor, poor heads. Now, sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite, because trust me: they do."
The intercom crackled off into silence.
