[from here]Once all three of them were inside, the double doors closed behind them. Archer didn't even try to go back and check them, they were most likely locked. Left with no other option, the team moved forward ( Read more... )

"Very similar to the scenes on the walls down the other corridor," Mark noted. He listened to the history lesson with some curiosity, having some casual interest in Earth history. It was fortunate he had, when he thought about it; he couldn't imagine how someone like Elli Quinn would handle a seemingly backwards place like this. The contemporary nature of the scenes to the setting upstairs didn't do anything to convince him that this was actually the twentieth or twenty-first centuries of Earth. If anything, it seemed more like a shrine to that era in his mind.

He gestured as the doors came into view. "The one on the right will be our goal. Yesterday, there was a trial behind the door we took, an intellectual challenge." Of course, they had never gotten the riddle itself, and didn't know what level of challenge it had been. But there was no telling what this would be.

Leon barely listened to Archer's speech, his interest much more in the here-and-now as opposed to the past. He held up his candle to the door, casting light over it. It looked about the same as the ones they'd gone through to get into this hall. He shifted his weapon to underneath his arm, in anticipation of having to shove these open as well. "Together, on three?" he suggested, gesturing at the door.

"Alright," Archer said. "One."

Getting into position by placing his palms on the doors, his muscles tensed as he put his weight behind it. "Two."

It was startling how much the human body could change, especially when shifting from a relaxed state to a tense one. It was almost as if you became a completely different person.

"Three," Archer grunted as he pushed with all his might at the door, along with the rest of the team.

The three of them working together was the key, all right. The door started to creak open again. So, what would be on the other side? Hopefully not another supernatural being. Meeting one of those was more than enough for one week...

And had the other door made that rumbling noise when opened?
