Nightshift 32: Staff-Only Outdoor Patio Lounging/Eating Area

Jun 03, 2008 22:58

[From here]Tyki was surprised to feel the chilly air from outside on his skin. He took a few steps forward, sweeping his flashlight around the area only to see he was standing on some kind of outdoor patio. Judging from the type of furniture present, it seemed to be used to lounge. From what he saw this morning, patients used the Sun Room for this ( Read more... )

Lia's form had been strung with tension, more evident now as some of it dissipated with her recognition of open, if not entirely fresh, air. She glanced up, meaning to take stock of the stars' positions, in hopes of recognizing familiar constellations.

There were none, and she felt their lack as almost a physical blow.

She marshaled herself, breathing out a low sigh through her nose, and nodded her agreement. "Even if there's nothing of use here, this proves a useful point to navigate from in the future." Her actions were less grimly pragmatic, as after hovering where she stood long enough to take stock of the furniture, she moved forward to search through this new territory for anything that seemed as though it might prove helpful.

Tyki had already began searching as Lia moved forward. His golden eyes glanced at the various pieces of furniture, but as he moved around he could only make single conclusion.

There were no cigarettes.

And unless he felt like dragging chairs around - which wasn't the case - there weren't any weapons, either. Having no other option, he moved towards the door on the other side of the room, turning the handle only to find it stuck.

"This one's locked." The Noah commented. And pretty tight as well. Even a lock pick wouldn't do much. He sighed, turning his gaze towards the other one. At least that would make the choice a little easier this time, unless the other door was locked as well.

Lia crossed to the other door, her path keeping her carefully near the wall, limiting exposure to aught that might be watching from out of sight in the murk. She was already anticipating another lock as she jiggled the handle, and started minutely as it began to open.

"This one isn't," she pointed out, wincing as even when lowered her voice sounded too loud in the open area. It was a double-edged sword; they were no longer boxed in as much as they were in the hall, but that meant as well that there were more points from which danger could come. It was all too familiar a feeling, and she comforted herself with the fact that she at least could not sense a strand of the Winds running nearby.

More slowly this time, she turned the handle, letting the door edge open to expose the dark room ahead.

Beatrix moved quickly and silently into the open night air of the patio. Her eyes darted around as she looked for any kind of movement as she moved to the center. A couple seconds passed and nothing appeared, nothing moved at all.

"Mion!" She hissed, informing her apprentice it was alright to move. Muscles coiled and ready for action, Beatrix kept a vigil eye upon her surroundings.

Mion was running the second Arlene had called her name. The place actually looked, well, something like what a normal patio would have looked like. Not that Mion had seen a lot of patios in her day, and it wasn't like she was paying that much attention to her surroundings - that is, until she nearly collided with a chair, at which point she kicked that out of the way and kept going.

"Just a little more...!" Mion told herself, and then she was there. She kept running, running, running, turning it into a kick, even harder than the one she had given Arlene, and...!! "Got it! It's open!"

Mion looked through it. Safe, as far as she could tell. She turned back to her friends, and waved them over. "Come on guys, we're all clear! Let's get a move on!"

Rena, meanwhile, had taken to standing behind the door, her eyes peering out into the open air. The patio appeared empty (aside from their tiny group) and far from the chaotic light show of last night. Actually, anything of interest she could catch was Arlene's vigilant stance, which was hardly suspicious.

Still, the redhead refused to let her guard down. After all, it had been silent yesterday as well.

Her eyes widened at Mion's voice. The signal! Without a second thought, Rena slipped past the door. Sprinting as fast as her body would allow, the girl literally flew down the patio, stepped ahead of her friend, and went through to the next room.
