Nightshift 32: M41-50 Hallway

May 31, 2008 11:47

Claude had been so bent on juggling eating dinner with getting ready, that by the time the intercom sounded, he was mostly prepared, although there were several large bites of food left on his plate. He would have gladly tried to polish it off, but he didn't have the time. Guy was probably going to come soon, if he wasn't on his way already ( Read more... )

His therapy session earlier in the day had left Leon with a bad taste in his mouth. He didn't know why it mattered so much that he convince the doctor that his memories and his life were real, but for some reason it did. Leon found himself wishing for a friend in this place, someone from his memories who he didn't loathe and want to kill rather desperately. Ada, or Claire-- hell, he'd be fine with Chris at this point, and he didn't know the man that well. Just someone who could prove that he was right.

The doctor's announcement at the beginning of nightshift was disturbing, as always. Leon grabbed his baseball bat, making a mental note that he needed to see about getting a weapon from Colonel Mustang's group soon. He pocketed his radio, and headed out towards the recreation field.

It was a quiet meal, but gave Yohji enough time to think over his plans for the night. He'd quite enjoyed the conversation he'd had with Schuldig and Artemis, even if he felt a little bad for embarrassing the kid (although Schuldig had managed to embarrass him which was quite a feat. He just hoped Artemis managed to sort things out with whoever it was he was sweet on. It was kind of cute. It just felt like a really really long time ago since he'd been that age, when it couldn't be much more than ten years ( ... )

W-what was with this place? First there was some kind of announcement (there seemed to be a lot of those, but Chopper hadn't seen any Den Den Mushi around...) about going to bed, and then there was t-that one--!!!

It was weird. And creepy. And scary--!!

Chopper wanted to stay in his room and hide... but staying in his room meant that he'd be there alone since Roxas had left, and Luffy was expecting him to come to the meeting, a-and...!!

After checking his closet for his hat and bag (which were unfortunately not there), he steeled his nerves as best he could before setting foot outside of the room. He immediately wished that he'd stayed inside. The hallway felt different now... It was even creepier than that weird announcement, and reminded him far too much of Thriller Bark.

Chopper glanced around. It looked like only one end of the hall was open... He'd have to go that way and look for a room number closer to Luffy's. He turned to the right and hurried down the hall at top speed. He didn't want to run into any monsters!

[ From here. ]

Finding the hallway empty, Guy quickly made his way about halfway down to where he knew M44 was. He was about to knock when his flashlight caught a flash of white and he noticed a piece of paper. Frowning, he bent down to pick it up and tucked his bat under his arm for the moment so he could unfold the note and use his flashlight to read the message.

"Scalpel, huh." Guy shrugged, figuring that it was best that they cut down on wasted time. He didn't mind letting himself into the room, and he took the chance to set down the bag of flasks that Peony had handed over to get the weight off of his still sore body.

Picking out the desk that he was pretty sure was Claude's, the servant took a seat in the chair and leaned back in it as he waited, setting down his flashlight and bat as well. He doubted his friend would make him wait too long.

((From here.))

Thankfully, he made it to his own hallway without any problems, and it didn't take him long to locate his own room. After adjusting the stuff he was carrying, he pushed the door open and stepped inside, his flashlight beam spilling into the room as he did so.

Once he turned and caught sight of Guy, he brightly smiled. "Hey!" The blond wasn't surprised to find Guy already waiting for him, and he would have rubbed the back of his head if his hands hadn't already been full. "Sorry for the wait. I picked up some scalpels to help us with unscrewing pipes and things like that." He supposed they'd make okay weapons in a serious pinch, but he didn't want to have to go relying on something so small if they ran into a dangerous monster.

His gaze fell upon the bag that Guy had apparently brought along with him. "Are those the flasks from Mr. Peony?"

The sound of the door opening and the flash of light caused Guy to sit up in the chair and whirl around, glad to see that it was Claude and not some other patient. It would have been just a little awkward to be found in someone else's room by someone he might not even know.

"Hey," he greeted in return, nodding as his friend provided further explanation. "So we're going to try and take apart the piping in the bathrooms, then?" Wasn't that what Okita and the others had wanted to do on his first night here? It seemed like a pretty reliable place to get metal, at least, since there was no saying there would be anything left if they tried the kitchen.

Glancing to the bag as Claude did, he nodded. "Yeah, should be. I think there's something in them, too. We thought you might be able to identify what the liquids are." He hadn't actually taken a look for himself, not wanting to waste time on his way to Claude's room.

"Yep, that's the plan," Claude replied. "I heard that was the best way." Which made sense, seeing that the kitchen was probably a lot harder to get to, what with monsters and the fact the entrance to the basement was there. "Mr. Edgeworth told me someone was already going for the bathroom for the M1-M40 block, so we'd probably be better off going somewhere else. Maybe no one's grabbed the one closer to here yet."

He raised his eyebrows when Guy mentioned there being liquids in the flasks already. Peony hadn't said anything like that at all on the bulletin, but maybe it was so the nurses wouldn't go snooping around for it. Once he'd stepped over to the bag, Claude gently lifted the flasks and shined a flashlight over the labels. "Camphor and Ammonia, huh? Yeah, I know what they are. They could come in handy later." Actually, the camphor could possibly be used for the compounding, but he didn't know for sure. "I'll have to see what I can do with them later ( ... )

So far everything was in order. Qui-Gon checked again to be sure, hefting the Earthian glowrod - the "flashlight" - in his hand and making sure it wasn't making any odd noises or rattling around. The light itself was flickering and weak. Probably a sign its energy source was nearing an end. No point waiting for it to go out in the halls; it took a few tries before he got the glowrod open and swapped out the old power sources with new ones.

That set, Qui-Gon grabbed his knife and left. So far he hadn't had to use it. Ideally he wouldn't have to. But whatever discomfort and distaste he might feel toward using a blade such as this, it was just as much a tool as a lightsaber. Just an extension, no matter if it was elegant or decidely more crude.

It didn't take Obi-Wan long to make preparations for nightshift. With his dinner already finished, he quickly went about gathering his maps, his glowrod, and his knife (as much as it bothered him, he knew beggars couldn't be choosers).

Their mission tonight was clear. Search the doctors' offices, and look for a transmitter device. If they managed to do that, Obi-Wan knew they'd be one step closer to completing their goal of making a commlink.

He could sense Qui-Gon before he saw him in the dark hallway. Nodding in greeting once he became visible, Obi-Wan flicked off his own glowrod once he saw Qui-Gon was using his own.

Qui-Gon dipped his head in a silent greeting. Words weren't needed. They'd worked together so often and closely together as a team that sometimes such things would be redundant. If their suspicions were true, there would be something of use in the doctor offices they could use as a transmitter for their commlinks...or the closest thing they could make to one.

The Jedi Master set off, knowing Obi-Wan would be at his side and not wanting it any other way.
