Nightshift 31: M11-M20 Hallway

Apr 19, 2008 14:43

Axel yawned as he prepped up his equipment for tonight, shrugging on his coat with little effort before zipping it up to the middle of his chest. He wasn’t expecting anything action packed to happen, but he might as well strut down the halls in style. There really wasn’t much else for him to bring besides his weapon and flashlight, but he pocketed ( Read more... )

The past two nights had been terribly unproductive, but now Kratos felt that he was finally ready to go back to "routine". No doubt Tamaki would be happy to have one of his healers back...

Shoving two of the muffins left over from his visitors down his sleeve for later, he grabbed his flashlight and slipped out the door into the hallway.

At Landel's, Ashton's sleep was usually dreamless - if one could even call what they were forced to have sleep at all. Spending the whole night out wasn't the most awesome thing ever when you kept doing it night after night. Perhaps that was why he was so willing to go back to his room and crash out. He'd meant to wake up a little earlier, but that couldn't be helped now that he'd slept all day and...

..Claude. He flushed up with worry. Hopefully Claude was doing okay. Ashton had meant to go see him at some point, but... then he'd slept. And he had no idea how much of nightshift had already passed! Oh no! He'd told the Colonel that he'd work for him, and he didn't even get to check the bulletin, and - and - maybe Dias had already left without him, and.. oh, no, this was terrible. He had told Dias he wanted to spend the night with him, but.. maybe he had been sleeping and he hadn't been able to be awakened, or.. oh, the possibilities were endless. Axel wasn't here! Aaah ( ... )

Fortunately for Ashton, Dias had gotten a slower start than usual; he was still getting used to changing back into his mercenary outfit every night rather than simply leaving the room immediately. So rather than having already visited Ashton to find him sleeping, the knock at Ashton's door was a signal that he'd only just arrived.

"Ashton?" This time, Dias waited for permission before walking in. He'd actually kind of liked seeing Ashton partially undressed the other day, but he respected his friend's (?) privacy. He was also still having difficulty finding a word for what they were now.

It came as quite a surprise to Ashton to hear the sudden knock. (Dias' knock. No one else knocked like that.) For all the brunet knew, he'd already slept through half of nightshift. Had Dias also been sleeping? Or maybe Axel had slammed the door on his way out, and that was what woke him up, or.. something. Either way, he felt like this was cause for celebration. He wasn't sure how. So he sprung off the bed excitedly, his boots buckled up all neat - neater than his hair, anyway, which was kind of all over the place. Ashton's hair was naturally just a little unruly, but not like this.

Throwing open the door - and jumping at the sudden crash from the doorknob hitting the wall - he couldn't restrain his grin. "Ahh - Dias! I slept half the day, so.. sorry I didn't get to your room first! I mean, it's fine to come to my room and all, but, uh, you can just come in, you know. It's you, so.." He didn't know what he was saying, so he started turning back into the room ( ... )

Dias blinked briefly at Ashton, and - somewhat to his own surprise - found himself biting back a smirk at his partner's hair, which looked (at the moment) less like it were a natural growth but more like a fuzzy animal that had alighted on his head after taking a hit from some lightning-based Heraldry. Fortunately, Ashton turned away before he noticed anything in particular.

"Actually, we should probably get going right now," Dias replied, mastering the urge to chuckle. "Our assignment for tonight is to meet up with somebody named Hughes at M6. I think we're going to the basement." That, at least, was intriguing; one of the last things Jack had told them - had, indeed, perhaps ever said to anyone - was that the way out of the institute could be found downstairs. And, as of yet, none of them had gotten the chance to investigate.

The investigation into the whereabouts of Phoenix Wright started tonight! Dinner shift was spent in peace again, apart from the sound of pen scratching paper. He had a list of phony names to sort through, and even as the lights went out and the doors unlocked, he'd continued to squint at those names, chewing the end of his pen while he double-triple-quadruple-checked everything was in order. He didn't so much as glance up at his roommate. Normally he'd have abandoned the idea of self-preparation if it meant making someone else feel welcome ( ... )

The meeting with Doctor Muraki had been so aggravating that Frey had spent the rest of the day alone in his room, eventually falling into a light doze. He felt a little better for the rest, though hungry, so he reluctantly ate a bit of the now-cold and quite disgusting dinner left over from earlier in the evening.

That done, he took up his staff and hoped that he hadn't overslept by too much, and that the Sword would be understanding that his injuries were quite draining on his energy reserves.

Scar had spent most of the day by himself, not that that was anything new. What was new was the strange way in which some of the nurses had glanced at him, how some of them had scribbled down notes on their clipboards more feverishly than usual when they'd escorted him from shift to shift. The Ishbalan was wary of the change, but then again, it wasn't unusual for the staff to change their routine every once in a while. Scar wondered if it was just to throw the patients off.

In any case, he was getting ready to head out, grabbing his flashlight, his radio, and an extra sweatshirt should he need bandages.

( from here)

Shaking her flashlight and cursing at the thing under her breath, Lust finally reached Scar's door. She didn't bother knocking - why bother? Scar was either out and about already, or he was inside. It wasn't as though she could walk in on anything shocking. Not in Scar's room.

"Going somewhere?" she asked, as she opened the door and noted Scar toting the usual supplies. Her arms were bandaged lightly, indicating she'd already been out in the hallways for most of the night - and hadn't fared particularly well.

Scar whirled around as he heard the door open, but he noticeably calmed when he heard Lust's voice and saw her figure in the door. He turned back to his supplies, setting them out on the bed and looking down at them.

"Not sure," he muttered, then looked over his shoulder to give her a closer look. He noticed her arms were bandaged and frowned. "You get in a scuffle?"

"You could call it that." Lust had to laugh as she entered the room, letting the door close behind her. "There are more dangerous things than usual out tonight. A spectral girl, impossible to fight. She only touched me and..." Lust shook her head. She wanted to ask him what he expected to find out there. How many nights had they taken to the halls and found nothing but more wounds?

"I'm calling it a night."
