DAYSHIFT 31: CAFETERIA (Shift 3)

Apr 08, 2008 10:49

[Waiting for Daemon and Renji.]After spending the last shift in discussion in the library, Rukia had a lot on her mind. Speaking with Captain Harkness had been somewhat informative, but only increased her worry. How easily were they all being controlled by Landel? And by what means? Too many questions ( Read more... )

Rukia, Daemon, and Renji bastard_sadi April 8 2008, 16:59:36 UTC
Daemon slipped into the cafeteria, having spent the last shift quietly researching what he could in the library. He hadn't found much that was helpful.

Still, he was thoughtful as he gathered the strange-looking food they were serving today on his plate and glanced around for a place to sit. Spotting a familiar face nearby, he paused for a moment, trying to recall who she was before his mind supplied a name.

With a faint quirk of his lips, he approached her and gave her a slight bow in greeting. "Lady Rukia?"

Rukia regarded the man before her. He looked vaguely familiar, but she couldn't quite place who he was until he spoke. Daemon. She had only met him briefly, when Renji had gone into the sun room to save River from Ichimaru. They had also 'spoken' on the bulletin board a few times, but it looked like this would be their first opportunity to have a real conversation.

"Yes," she said, smiling. "And you are Daemon, if I am not mistaken? I believe we met only once, but Renji has spoken of you." Like the lady she had been in the Kuchiki House, she gestured to the spot across from her. "Please, feel free to sit down."

"Daemon Sadi," he introduced himself with a polite smile, his movements graceful as he inclined his head in reply before sinking fluidly down into the chair across from hers. His movements were smooth and deliberate and his golden eyes light as he eyed her with interest.

"I remember. And Renji has spoken often of you, as well. It is a pleasure to finally meet you myself."

He nodded towards the wheeled chair she was seated in in silent inquiry. "You've been injured?"

"The pleasure is mine," Rukia said, bowing in her chair. She almost always spoke and moved in ways that were appropriate for a given situation, and this was no exception; over 40 years of living in a noble household had certainly made her into a good actress. Rukia matched Daemon's gentlemanly behavior with her own calm expression and polite words. Her smile was genuine, though; Daemon must be strong of character for Rrenji to consider him a friend.

Rukia inclined her head slightly at Daemon's question. "Two nights ago, but it is healing well." She hadn't looked at the gash in her knee or the injured toes since she'd taken a shower the previous day, but the pain was significantly less. She figured that, by nightfall, she would be able to walk. It would hurt, but she would do it.

"May I ask how you and Renji met?" she said, hoping to steer the subject away from her injuries.

[[waiting for Kyon! :D]]

If nothing else, the food regularly forced Sasuke to realise that he was no longer in a place he recognised. At least there was rice, Sasuke even going so far as to talk to his nurse in order to request that he get an especially large helping.

He was supposed to be meeting that Kyon kid this shift. The recipient of Sasuke's 'donation' had seemed pretty human when Sasuke met him, but if Aidou's words were true ...

It could be interesting either way.

Thankfully the chat he had with Hikaru had been uneventful, if extremely awkward. He was ushered into the lunchroom by his usual nurse and started to scan the lunchroom for Sasuke. He was hoping this appointment went well, too.

Sasuke seemed to be a fairly agreeable guy. He'd been willing to donate blood for Kyon's sake, probably knowing Kyon could do little to repay the favor. If Sasuke wanted to talk about the experimentation, then it was a small favor. Kyon owed his sanity to the other boy.

Picking up a light tray, Kyon spotted the ninja and made his way over to sit down. He uttered, "Yo" just before doing so to make sure he was aware of his arrival.

Sasuke was mostly done with his food by the time the boy arrived, which was convenient. Most of the meals here involved too much talking to focus on eating enough, irritatingly.

Setting down his glass of juice, he nodded acknowledgment in Kyon's direction, and then launched straight to business. "How did the rest of your night go?"

Kyon poked at his lunch like he usually did, these days. It was starting to develop into some kind of habit. He was going to try and get something down like he had at breakfast. He was still positive his body couldn't run on blood alone.

"Pretty good," Kyon replied, and out of formality he returned the question, "What about you?"

Whether or not he answered or ignored the question was fine with him.

[free for pestering~]

The world had no right to be this frustrating or this infuriating. All he wanted was time to himself for a few hours. Not to be thrust into a room full of random people and told to see the library and see if anything interested him. Eventually, he had come up with a plan that had gotten the nurse and everyone else to leave him alone, for which he was grateful. It gave him time to think.

Then, of course, he had been ushered back to the cafeteria and, after much prodding from his nurse to "try something different", Nakago wound up with one of the "tacos" filled with chicken just to shut the woman up. At least there was rice this time.

Satisfied (for now, at least), he took over an empty table and watched the other patients around the room. He really should attempt to find Mozenrath during this shift, or at least grab him for long enough so they could form a plan of where they would go tonight and they could start without any interruptions once night fell ( ... )

(I hope you don't mind. If so, let me know and he's gone. ^^)

Haku had enjoyed the time to himself in the sun room. It had given him a chance to calm down and focus his thoughts. Now, it was the mid-day meal. Tacos. Haku hadn't been a fan of them the last time they'd come around, so he took some of the rice and glass of water to a table. He smiled politely down at the blond man already sitting at the table, apparently looking for someone.

"I'm sorry," he said, bowing his head slightly. "May I sit with you?"

[Of course I don't mind! It's Haku! *flails happily*]

Normally, Nakago supposed he would be keeping an eye on anybody who came close to his table while still scouring the room for Mozenrath. However, he was so intent on attempting to spot Mozenrath as he entered the room that he almost missed the fact that anybody had approached him, much less spoken to him.

Finally realizing that someone was, in fact, there, he turned to look at the person who had spoken and gave him one of the friendliest smiles he was capable of. "Help yourself."

He was sitting in a fairly obvious location, after all. If Mozenrath was going to find him, Nakago didn't think he could be any more obvious about his location. If not, well, it would be more for Mozenrath to complain about later. Besides, for all he knew, this new person could prove to be useful later on.

Haku smiled warmly back and sat down, arranging his food in front of him. "Thank you very much," he said. "I'm Haku. May I ask your name?"

[[waiting for Rinali and the bratty vampire Aidou]]

Allen was grateful for mealtime once again. It hadn't been that long since breakfast, but it certainly felt like it. Luckily, the nurses had kept Rhode and himself separated for the rest of the shift, letting him get some much-needed rest. He felt better, but still hungry, always at least a little. His tray was overflowing with food; several different kinds of tacos and burritos, rice, beans, and other side dishes. He was used to foreign foods, so it didn't phase him in the slightest to be eating something he wasn't quite as familiar with. It was rather tasty, he decided, as he found a seat and started eating one of the neatly wrapped burritos.

Rinali couldn't help but feel a little relieved when the head doctor's voice announced the change in shifts. She had been taken back a little when Aidou confessed he had a crush on her. After all, they had just met! He was cute and friendly, but she barely knew him beyond that. No, it just felt a little awkward, and if she didn't have to respond to Aidou's compliment, she wouldn't ( ... )

Aidou just smiled and chuckled a little, in a good-natured way, when the conversation was moved to the cafeteria. Some girls were just too easy to embarrass--it wasn't as though his 'attentions' were easy to withstand either. There'd been plenty of fainters in the past. That always seemed to get him in trouble, so at least this wasn't in the extreme.

Crush, yes. Aidou was certainly enamoured by something, and that was nutrients to keep his energy up. After all, he couldn't very well follow through and hunt down the many sources of blood in the room; there was a large number with open wounds. He skipped along beside her like they were good friends, taking a ridiculously large portion for himself (a bottomless pit, like Allen) before saying, "It's Mexican. It actually means "little donkey" in Spanish, you know."

When he followed her pointing finger, it was easier to play off his pleasant smile as something meant to accompany the chitchat, rather than what it really was--people very close to him knew full well what it meant. Mischief ( ... )

"Hello Rina-" Allen began as he saw his friend making her way over to his table. His voice seemed to fail him when he saw who was accompanying her. What was that boy doing around Rinali!? It took a few seconds for him to recover from the shock, but he tried to give Rinali a pleasant, if forced, smile.

"I... ah... how... how are you?" he said finally, once his mouth started working again.

Miku's therapy had left her in a tizzy. Irritable at thoughts of her brother and her not-brother, trying better to understand Washu was a herculean task. The little medium took her over-filled plate (her nurse had been terribly excited that Miku had managed to finish her birdlike portion at breakfast, it seemed), her juice, and sat down at an empty table.

The burrito on her plate seemed too big to get in her mouth properly (did anyone actually attempt eating these things with their hands at this size?) and the medium tiredly removed her fork and knife from a rolled napkin. All this worry and wild emoting had made Miku terribly tired. She wouldn't have been surprised at all if she napped long and hard after this shift. It was too much for her.

Sousuke was still slightly confused by Rangiku's little talk. Why on earth would the female vice-captain think that Sousuke was trying to seduce Miku? Yes he was a man and she was a woman, but he was (agh...) seventeen and she was nineteen. Not to mention the fact that he was her protector, not her escort. It was all so confusing. Women were confusing.

He immediately picked Miku out sitting at one of the tables with a rather large amount of food on her plate. She looked like she was going to fall asleep in her food, which, by all counts, probably wasn't the best idea. He navigated through the cafeteria easily and sat down across from her.

"Perhaps some food will wake you up," He offered without so much as a greeting.

"Mm?" Miku looked up at him as she cut into the overstuffed burrito and smiled. "I think it's just being up all night, Sagara-san." She thought about her sentence and tried hard to make up for it.

"Not that it's anything you should be worried about." Miku prodded the bit of burrito on her plate and speared it with her fork. "What was that nurse thinking? It's so much..." she muttered. At least it was fairly edible, the medium decided. "Has your morning been well, Sagara-san?" she asked after a moment, curiously.

Sousuke considered the question. He couldn't really complain, that was for certain. He'd had a nice if not strange conversation with Kadaj, and then that weird discussion of Hinasaki with Rangiku. All in all, nothing to report, really.

"No problems to report," He replied, leaning over and starting to cut Miku's burrito into pieces. When he was satisfied, he did the same for his. "Although I had a rather strange discussion with a friend of yours, I think. Vice-Captain Matsumoto Rangiku-san?"
