Night 30: East Wing, South Hall 2-B

Mar 04, 2008 19:56

[from here]Away from the windows looking down onto the Sun Room, the darkness was complete in the way it only can be indoors. Farfarello didn't mind, though--he preferred to rely on senses other than sight, anyway, since his sight was rather seriously flawed on account of his missing eye ( Read more... )

Faust followed along, silent and keeping watch over the way they had come. He'd travelled with the children long enough to actually get something of a grasp of the basics of defense. He hadn't been this far in a while though and he rather enjoyed the feeling of actually doing something.

It was almost enough to take his mind off of his worry for her... though nothing could distract him from his angel completely. He didn't say anything.

Schuldig had said that the lab was near the morgue. Farfarello never had made it to the morgue himself, but if he recalled correctly the maps he had seen and the information he'd picked up in other ways, it was farther down the hall than this.

There were two doors close together at this end of the hall but one had a very good lock on it, from the sound it made when Farfarello rapped his knuckles against it. Probably something good on the other side of it, but not the morgue or the lab--people had made it into those areas before. Maybe another night he could explore this area a little more, but tonight Farfarello had a specific goal in mind.

He kept going.

Faust was committing the area to memory, in case he needed to return here. The man said he knew where he was going. Farfarello... An interesting name. He idly wondered where the young man had gotten it. It was unlikely that his parents named him that.

It was somewhat soothing to be in a place with few people for a change.

Rena had a point, which was all Sora had needed to convince him. Sending her a nod and a smile, he didn't hesitate to rush over to the two men. "Hey!" he called out, hoping to catch their attention. He knew that making a lot of noise could be dangerous, but the hallway seemed pretty quiet.

He was more concerned with what might be in the rooms they were heading for, but he would cross that bridge when he came to it.

"I think we might be going the same way as you guys, so do you wanna team up?" He clasped both hands behind his head casually (and a little sheepishly) and sent the two strangers a grin. Hopefully they were friendly. If not, they could keep going on their own, right?

Those two other patients were further up the hall, and it sounded like they were heading in that direction as well. Sora wondered if they should attempt to join them, but there was always the chance that they didn't want to be bothered.

Sora paused and glanced to Rena, pointing out the two men ahead of them. "Should we just follow them, or try to talk to them? If we're going to the same place, maybe it' better if we work together?" But the two others might think they were trying to steal the stuff they were going after, but there was nothing wrong with sharing, right?

It was a difficult situation, and one Sora hadn't really had to worry about before. Hopefully Rena would have some sort of idea about how to handle it.

It was surprising to find two more patients with seemingly similar destinations, although Rena could not be sure if their intention was the same or not. Only some purposely sought out equipment at night; for all she knew, these two could be exploring, possibly even hunting. Just watching them, however, made it difficult to tell.

Rena returned Sora's glance with a shrug. "It wouldn't hurt to ask, I guess," she replied. "The worst they could do is say no." Right?

As good as it was to be polite, a part of Rena's mind remained doubtful. It wasn't as though they needed permission to take things... No one could honestly claim a prize they had yet to take, at least not in this place.

[from here]Again, voices she recognized, but still the shinigami wished to be alone. She even knew one of the groups was an Arts & Crafts group, but soul searching had to be done alone. Unohana-taichou would say mediation is how she should go about this, but Momo needed to be moving. She'd already meditated on her situation and that did not help any. Her mind was too restless to settle properly to make use of the act and the locale of Landel's as a whole did not help ( ... )

Rinali walked down the hallway, each step feeling heavier than the one before it. What if there wasn't anything there? What if he really was dead, and Allen had killed him? How could she live with herself?

She moved slower now, but still pressed on. As terrified as she was of the truth, she knew she needed to know.

If things hadn't turned out as they had last night, he might have tried to help Rinali with something as simple as taking her hand, just so she didn't feel so afraid. But they hadn't and he felt guilty for even considering it.

Tired as he was though, he struggled to stay close. The climb up the stairs had made him a little dizzy and light-headed, but he tried not to show it. Rinali had far too much to fret over already.

Rinali was going to continue on, but she smelled something foul burning. She glanced back at Allen. "Do you smell that?" she asked nervously. Something didn't seem right coming from the room next to them. As much as she wanted to continue on, the scent reached into the one part of her brain that still felt something outside of the pain at losing her brother.

It smelled like burning flesh. Someone might be in trouble...

Allen's eyes widened as Rinali spun around, suddenly asking him questions. Smell? He'd been trying so hard just to keep up, he hadn't even thought about it, but there was a familiar odor in the air. His nose wrinkled a little as he nodded in agreement. It wasn't coming from further up the hall where they'd found Komui. That was encouraging, if only slightly. The same scent had hung heavy in that room just last night.

He felt uneasy about heading toward it, but that was his duty, to protect humans. A few had run past here and there, he just hoped none of them had quite as poor of luck as he'd had. "Someone could be hurt..." he offered.

From the glimpse he'd caught of Willow's map earlier, it seemed no one had been able to access the doors lining the hallway and true enough, it didn't even give when he tried to break it down.

He frowned. This couldn't be a good sign. He didn't think he'd ever encountered a regular door he couldn't break through. Until now, apparently. He couldn't tell if it was a spell guarding it or...something else.

"Willow, how's your magic here?"

Willow involuntarily took a small step back at the mention of her magic, her hands clasped behind her back. "It's... I don't know." She wasn't going to use it anyway, not under any circumstances. She did not want anything like what had happened back in Sunnydale to happen here. It wouldn't, not if she could help it.

The witch cast around for a plausible excuse, and settled on the spell she'd accidentally used the night before. The simple one meant to eradicate pain completely, but hadn't. "It's limited too. I think. I did a spell last night, and it didn't do everything it was supposed to." Thank god, she added silently. "There's more doors," she pointed out with a vague wave of her hand. "They can't all be locked."

Anya rolled her eyes as she trailed after the other two. "Willow doesn't want to use her magic," she explained to Angel, "because the last time she did she went all black-haired and veiny and tried to destroy the world. At least that's what she thinks, because she's used it a time or two since then but doesn't seem remember."

She continued on down the hallway past them. "Of course if Willow would just cut loose a little and use her magic, we could all get out of here a lot faster!" Anya pointed out, only the tiniest hint of annoyance creeping into her voice. She'd actually gotten herself excited about the research party, and while tromping around in the dark with Angel and Willow wasn't really her idea of good times, it wasn't as bad as it could be. She could be tromping around in the dark with Buffy and Xander ( ... )
