Nightshift 30: M1-10 Hallway

Feb 26, 2008 12:36

[from hereRenji slowed a little as he headed up the hallway, sweeping the ceiling with his flashlight. So far, no giant spiders. He liked that. It wasn't that he had anything against spiders; he wasn't some pansy that was afraid of a little bug. Or a big one. He just hadn't liked the feeling of getting bitten and poisoned ( Read more... )

Knives looked up when the intercom came on. He had no idea what it meant that the voice behind the radio had been killed and he didn't care either way. The point was the sudden change in the doctor's voice pointed to the fact that Roy had not been lying or insane earlier in the day. In fact, Roy was the only person Knives had encountered that seemed to be worth anything ( ... )

The radio man, dead? Roy wasn't certain if he believed it, though he wondered if he was just being delusional. Still, this could easily just be another way that Landel was trying to discourage the patient population. Even if it was true, Roy didn't know if it mattered or not. It didn't sound like Ashton and the others had gotten much out of the man, so who knew if he was that willing to help them in the end ( ... )

Knives looked at Roy oddly, as if something Roy said confused him. "As I said, you are the only person I met that I found capable." He didn't see why he had to repeat himself. Truthfully, he didn't trust himself very much just yet, considering what had happened during dinner. Roy, at least, had offered him information and help in acquiring a weapon. He seemed useful, which was more than Knives could say about the others he met during his day at this hospital ( ... )

All in all, Roy could hardly argue. While he could tell that Knives was goading him to an extent, he simply wouldn't let him go off on his own. Knives apparently had his number already, though Roy didn't have any reason to resent the man for it. He seemed very straight-forward and if there was truth to his words, then maybe he would be a help. There might even be a chance of recruiting him into the Cooking Group, but it was less likely if he was so intolerant of people.

On the other hand, he may have just happened to be unlucky enough to run into very insufferable people.

"Very well. I'm planning to meet with a man who's going to show me how to get to the basement. He isn't the most pleasant of people, so there's your fair warning. We need to wait for another patient to show up so I can make a weapon for him, though." Hopefully Hisoka wouldn't keep them waiting too long -- he wasn't sure how long Kimbley would wait for them. Then again, he would probably wait for a pretty long time if it meant he got to torment him eventually.

When the announcement came over the intercom, Hughes froze. He lifted his eyes to look at the box, a sickly feeling washing over him. The radio guy was dead? Sure, Hughes had always been skeptical of the guy, but he had helped now and then and...

Damnit, it didn't mean Hughes wanted him dead. And not like that. He hung his head, offering a moment of silence for the guy, before securing his knives about his person and stepping into the hall to wait for Kadaj.

"Something tells me nobody should be out on their own tonight," Hughes said, with a sad smile. "We'll figure something else to do. It's not like Roy gave us any specific directions." He pulled out his map, eying it. It was going to be a bit difficult, with no direction whatsoever. But they'd figure it out. A soldier got used to thinking on his feet.

"So where've you been so far? Maybe we can just see about poking around the places neither one of us have made it to. Could find something useful."

It was no surprise that Mello was still annoyed when he left his room, though he wasn't annoyed enough to make a mistake. His flashlight was switched off but still in his hand, and he'd remembered to shove another handful of pens into his pocket. At this rate, he'd run out in a week.

He glanced at the room numbers as he made his way down the hall, then turned the corner and continued towards the door.

Whatever it was, it had been smothering her, coating her in a thick something, and she'd needed to come up for air. Her mind was too fuzzy, thick with fog and sludge, to even think logically about what had been seen. In fact it hardly registered as River slipped out of the room and down the hallway, quick as could be. With eyes wide and flashlight to light her way, Alice continued through the maze and into Wonderland.

Renji slipped out into the hall. Slowly, he began to make his way toward the far end. For this little bit, he decided, he would take his time. But at least he was going in the right direction.

If it bothered Ren to have spent the entire day in limbo, he didn't show it. In fact, even getting a late start to the evening's activities didn't mean much--there was little he could do about it. What mattered now was mostly being as productive as possible, and the previous night sat fresh in his mind ( ... )

Renji wasn't surprised; he stopped near Ren. "Hey," he said. "What's going on?" He was surprised the guy was just hanging out in the hall, but there was no doubt a good reason for it. Ren didn't seem the sort to do anything without a good reason.

He shook his head, smiling slightly. "Nothing really." The doll held out his hand, offering what he'd promised. When it came to helping the prisoners make some kind of advance, it was the least he could do. "Here, everything I can give you on the basement for now. It's not much, but I hope it helps--there's something blocking me from seeing the rest from the outside. Sorry it took so long."
