At least it wasn't far to Keman's. He knocked on the door a couple of times then waited for a response. Yes, it would be much better to spend the evening inside and far, far away from anything that might be lurking outside, whether it was in his imagination or not. And if the conversation got awkward or anything came up, he could always back out, run away, just like all the times before. It was an effort to make his smile feel relaxed and friendly as he stood at the door, ready to meet his friend.
