Nightshift 29: Sun Room

[[From hereSubZero cautiously stepped inside the sun room, "Do you see anything?" SubZero was trained to operate in darkness, but even with the light coming in over head HK still had an advantage over him when it came to detecting things ( Read more... )

Shrouded by darkness, the large construct stood perfectly still in the far off corner where he had been placed just as night began. The bio weapon's objective for the night was simple: Guard all doors from any targets that attempted to gain entrance. Returning the targets to their designated areas was imperative.

At the rising and falling tones of speech, the construct opened its blank, empty eyes and scanned the area, easily spotting two targets entering from the far off door.

Oh, bugger, was all HK could think as he was thrown back. He had been presenting as small a profile as possible, so he didn't get ribs broken. Just his upper arm.

Well, he still had another scalpel in the other hand. But first, it would be a good idea to get out of the way of the assault tank meatbag. HK therefore forestalled all attempts at attacking, opting rather to dodge out of the way as fast as possible.

One part that was nice about meatbags, to make up for their squishiness- pain didn't really hit for a few seconds. Very helpful, with how often the thing broke down.

"That's not right!" SubZero protested as the thing appeared to not notice that it had a scalpel in it's eye.

He took good advantage of the distraction though, calling forth his freezing powers with a burst of faint, blue light as he formed the familiar edges of his ice blade.

Since it was still attacking HK, SubZero darted forward to slash at the hopefully vulnerable neck.

The large construct took the blow without a sound, the blade doing little more than to slice through Tyrant's neck before bouncing off the bone. Readings showed 40% damage with blood loss as a potential hazard. Shut down imminent if further critical damage was received, in the mean time--

The construct swung heavily at the second target to prevent any further attacks.

HK waited until the meatbag was thoroughly distracted before rushing in to attack again, stabbing at the other eye.

Not only would this blind the large meatbag, but it would also give HK the satisfaction of giving out a matching pair of maiming injuries! A perfect addition to any meatbag face, cheerfully installed by a being made of pure psychosis.

SubZero attempted to get back out of the way, assuming a blocking position when he realized he wasn't going to get entirely out of the way.

The sheer force of the attack knocked him backwards, and SubZero found himself taking several large steps back to stay on his feet and avoid falling over.

This guy certainly hit almost as hard as the earth god.

Blinded, the construct struck, incapable of locating the targets through vision, but still capable of locating by sound. Eye sight down to 2%, hearing 87%, blood loss a critical 30% and additional damage a 50% increase.

Estimated two minutes and counting until shutdown.

HK managed to pull back with his scalpel still in hand, and no other serious injuries incurred in the process. Ha ha. I win!

...Except for my arm. It's not invited to the victory celebration. It really, really hurt now. HK just decided to focus on getting out of the way, and on running through his database of profanity from across the galaxy. All of it seemed to be needed to properly express his current state.

It was tempting to congratulate HK on actually doing something useful, but their opponent was likely to be targeting based on hearing alone, and SubZero did not want to get hit again. There were already large lumpy bruises forming where he'd blocked the last attack.

Instead, he quietly edged forward till he was within range to swing at the back of it's leg with his ice blade.

That was all it took. Readings showed damage to be extensive and in need of immediate repairs, shutdown was now priority. The large construct shook the ground in its wake as it fell before finally going still as if dead.

HK watched, a psychotic grin fading to an equally insane but contented smile as the meatbag fell over. After a moment, he stepped in, yanking his other scalpel out of the meatbag's eye with his good hand. He then stood, gleefully declaring "Exclamation: Take that, meatba--"

"Ow." He had tried to point at the ex-meatbag with his broken arm. It didn't go as planned. In fact, it now hurt quite a bit more than it previously had.

"...Expletive: Damn it."

At HK's expletive and clear signs of pain, SubZero moved over to the other assassin to look at his arm.

"I do have pain killers if you need them, but we should probably get out of this room," SubZero glanced down at the thing they had just taken down.

"Affirmative: Yes to both, meatbag." Why did this body have to break so often? It was getting to be almost routine. A very, very painful, irritating, humiliating, unhappy routine. It didn't help that the music coming from the library was distinctly irritating.

...Wait, what? HK turned towards the source of the noise. "Query: Am I experiencing an aural hallucination, or is something playing music?" He hoped it wasn't just his imagination. If he had any choice, he wouldn't have delusions that sounded like this.

SubZero reached into the pocket of his coat and pulled out the pill bottle, considering taking some himself for the ache in his own arms. It hurt, but he couldn't tell if it was fractured or very severely bruised.

He handed a single pill to HK and glanced towards the library. "Someone is playing music, we should go find out who."

HK swallowed the pill, dearly hoping that the dose was lower than whatever amount SubZero had put in his milk several days ago. "Statement: Lead on, meatbag." Unfortunately, the pill hadn't gone quite far enough down his throat by the time he tried to speak, leaving him coughing. He'd fiercely deny it, but the reddening of his cheeks that accompanied the coughing fit was actually caused by acute embarrassment.
