Day 28: Bus 3

Nov 20, 2007 17:42

What a waste of a trip. That was Anise's first thought as she was ushered onto one of the buses, taking a window seat along the left side. In the end, she hadn't been able to get any information besides rumors and conjecture. Among them, the only information worth considering was the doctor's suggestion of Doyleton being an extension of Landel's. ( Read more... )

[Waiting for Nami]

Wow. As he made his way onto the bus, he resolved that he had to get massages again, often, whenever possible. It had been nice while Sai had been massaging, but now he felt as though someone had taken a heavy pack off of his back.

Smiling contentedly, he took his bag dinner, dubious of his own ability actually eat it, then made his way onto one of the buses. The worries he'd had about his crewmates weren't entirely gone, but he told himself firmly that he was just being paranoid. After all, there were only four of them here, out of what? Hundreds of patients? Actually meeting each other, that would be weird.

At least the sandwich was cold, so maybe he could save it to eat later.

Well, sadly enough, the Strawhat Expedition Party hadn't found the restaurant in time, but Nami wasn't too worried about that - this place seemed 'normal' enough that they wouldn't deny patients at least some semblance of regularity with meals. And she could spare the probable commentary from Sanji. Yes, it was true that the quality of food at Landel's and its surrounding area couldn't come close to his level of culinary skill, especially when it came to herself, Vivi, and Robin. But that didn't mean it was bad food. ..Probably ( ... )

Usopp had been so busy gazing out the window that he hadn't even noticed Nami until she spoke up. The familiar voice made him jump a bit, but he grinned as he turned to his new seatmate.

"Nami! When did you get here?!" He'd been worried about not seeing any of the crew here, and now there was a new member of the crew arrived by surprise! Unless... "Have you seen the others yet? Zoro, Sanji and Luffy are here too. Is anyone else here that you know of?"

Nami, here! That was an unexpected--and very pleasant--surprise. The officially most responsible member of the crew was on the scene, which meant he was off the hook on any planning. Not that he'd done any planning. But if he'd thought of planning something...

Yeah, it was a good thing Nami was here. He added cheerfully, "Do you have a map of the institute yet? I have a sort of sketchy one!"

"Yesterday morning," Nami said matter-of-factly, noting Usopp's jump with a little smile. Yes, this was the Usopp they all knew. Everyone seemed to be acting as normal, which was mildly comforting - if she forgot for a moment that they were locked inside a crazy mental institution from which there was no escape.

She'd already known Usopp was present at Landel's, of course. Sanji had let her know about everything that was going on.. but then again, some of it she had to find out for herself. "Ehh, I've seen everyone now except Zoro. But we're going to try to arrange a meetup tonight in Luffy's hallway. I heard you were near..?"

When he mentioned maps, she shook her head. "So far I haven't written anything down, but I was planning on doing so at earliest convenience." She tapped her forehead, as if saying that all the necessary information was right there in her head. "I'd like to see what you have, though." No doubt it was poorly proportioned, but it would be a start.

He'd been forcibly separated from Max, an army of the Institute's staff closing in on every patient at once and guiding their sick puppies to the buses. The woman had heightened his mood some, but upon watching her being steered in the opposite direction, an acidic frustration ensued; a bored but acute stare on his nurse as she then patted him down.

Bet she's wanted to do that for a while...Rays of weak sunlight streamed in at weird angles. The interior of the vehicle was a little noisy. As a kind of afterthought, the man shifted sideward and extended his legs across the seat, resting against the wall of the bus with his arms crossed. He was fed up watching the patient searches, though it was amusing to count the number of failures to stash possessions. Yeah, he could've stolen crap too. Easy. But he was pretty sure the nurses weren't so thick that they'd allow a patient on with a hunting knife in the folds of their sweater. His eyes peeled over the crowd, on the lookout for his brother, wondering if he'd bothered to try give them ( ... )

There was a sharp tap on the sole of one of Dean's shoes, deliberate enough to not be any sort of accidental jostle. While he had stepped far enough to the side to not too badly impede any flow of traffic, Sam seemed disinclined to continue onward. Or perhaps simply disinclined to seek out another half-oblique conversation with strangers similarly trapped in the asylum from hell.

"Dude, I know you're not sleeping." It seemed a good guess, at any rate - Sam knew he wouldn't have been able to fall asleep. Too many people, too much noise, and too little security made for keyed up nerves. Unfortunately. It wasn't as though the nights seemed to yield much chance for rest.

Dean unfolded his arms, shaking his head a bit and narrowing eyes on his brother.

"Brilliant deduction," he grumbled after a second of hush (between them, anyway), languidly draping an arm over the back of his seat while the other massaged his forehead. He looked both ways as though he really had just risen from sleep. Fixing sights on Sam and lowering the hand, a grimace played on his lips before finally asking: "Got anything?"

Best thing he could do is draw this out to the point he wouldn't have to state his own findings.

"Not much," Sam admitted, grimacing. "Except that this place is eerily pleasant, and the security didn't seem any laxer than it was up at the institute. Couldn't make it to a phone, and I don't think they even have a library." The aggravation in his tone at the last was easily obvious, goaded by a need for some contact with the outside world, even if only in the form of information.

He cast a slow gaze over the bus, stalling several moments before adding, lower-voiced, "If these people are in on whatever's going on, they seem damn good at hiding it."

(Not waiting for anyone, feel free to poke him)

Separated from River by two very insistent nurses, Daemon was not in the best of moods when he was brusquely searched and then all but shoved back into one of the horse-less carriages. He already loathed the things and was somewhat dreading the ride back to the asylum. Hopefully it wouldn't be as uncomfortable as the ride down, but he wasn't holding his breath.

Finding an empty seat halfway back the carriage, he settled down comfortable to await the rest of the patients to be escorted back in. He wondered how Renji had fared, and whether his father had found anything interesting?

Phibrizzo took his food and sat down next to Daemon, not paying much attention to his seatmate initially. So, there was more food. And what would THIS offering taste like, he wondered idly, glancing to his companion.

Wait a minute. He knew this face. He was one of the people from the first night,...Daemon, was it?

"Oh! Hello, mister!" He beamed brightly.

Daemon glanced down at the little boy that had dropped into the seat next to him, feeling a momentary surprise at being called by name before rememberance dawned.

"Phibrizzo, yes? Hello to you as well. Did you enjoy your day in town?" His words were polite and his expression friendly as he greeted the child. He was relieved to see the boy had faired well enough in the time since Daemon had last seen him. He wondered how a child could fare at all in this place? Perhaps he had very capable watchers.

Curses, that was right. He had given Daemon his real name. The last thing he needed was for his presence to get back the Chimera before he was good and ready to deal with him. However, if he made too big a deal out of it, wouldn't it also appear a bit odd? The man was asking for verification, so perhaps he could pass that name off onto another and act as if the man was simply mistaken. "Actually, it's Lei."

As for his day in town...

"A mean fat man tried to eat me. But the nurses got rid of him quickly."

The bus was fairly empty when he entered and Gin was careful this time to avoid the children that had already seated themselves. There was no promise they wouldn't find him later, but he definitely wasn't going to go seeking the little monsters out. He'd had more than his fill of them over the last few days ( ... )

Cloud was thankful that he had lost Sephiroth for the rest of the day in town, and he had spent the rest of it exploring. He was a little relieved that he had not been jumped by any people or chased around town more. He did not mind Doyleton all the much, even if it seemed terribly fake in some aspects.

Climbing aboard the same bus he had ridden on, he thought it would be best to sit with someone else to avoid having a seat filled with someone like Sephiroth. He walked down the aisle before turning to what looked to be a young man with silver hair. This is bound to go well, if all silver-haired people have some aspect of Sephiroth's personality, he thought.

Still, it seemed better to sit with someone quickly. The young man held the air of someone skilled, and he seemed to remember this feeling from somewhere before. "Do you mind if I sit here," he asked softly.

Gin had been bombarded by people he already knew most of the day, so it was good to meet some that didn't know him, or more accurately, had no idea who he was or where he was from. The man was soft-spoken, looked to be in his early twenties if he was going by human years and not the afterlife. Sometimes it was so difficult to tell the difference.

He nodded, offering the man a friendly smile. Though he was thin, he had the build of a fighter, which meant, at the very least, he was useful. "Go 'head," he replied, scooting a little further over on the seat. He was mostly done with his dinner and luckily the milk carton was much easier to figure out than the juice box from earlier. "I think've seen you 'round here once or twice, but I don't think we've met jus' yet," he started, "I'm Gin."

Cloud felt himself being appraised at the same time his own glance of appraisal happened. That was indication of enough, and he suspected that he was seating himself next to another warrior of some kind. The man held himself well, yet with a sense of casualness.

He seated himself and looked at what the nurses had given him to eat. It hardly seemed worth his time, but he knew better than to not eat... not with the night coming. He would need his strength.

He glanced at Gin again, nodding a little. "Cloud," he replied. He was still trying to place that faint feeling of knowing this man from somewhere. "I have seen you too... but I am not sure from where." He glanced at Gin's hands in a subtle gesture to look for sword calluses.

Sheska hated this bit. She'd hated it at school too. Trying not to be the only one left behind, while fighting for the confidence to ask for a seat with somebody.

She wandered up the bus, getting more and more frantic. Then she cracked, slamming her bum down on a seat and apologising very quickly to the man she'd disturbed. "CanIsithereplease?!"

"I could get up," she said, quietly, looking at him properly for the first time. He looked tired, but awake. It was very strange.

Sheska wondered if this was going to be like the trip on the way down. Mr Zabuza of the Hidden Village (that was hidden from ALL the books she'd checked in the bookstore) had been so grumpy and frightening.

"Where are you from?" Maybe he'd be friendly if he got to talk about himself?
