Day 28: Bus 1

Oct 26, 2007 10:10

Zelgadis was not happy, at all. Not that this was any change, but the events of the past few hours had given him more to angst about than usual. Nightshift had been dreadful: first he was attacked by a small green man and then covered in leeches, neither of which lead to warm fuzzy feelings ( Read more... )

Well, Renji thought, it could have gone worse. He was tired, but that was just leftover fatigue from other nights. And, if he was going to be honest with himself, emotional exhaustion more than anything else. He was getting tired of worry and uncertainty and... everything else. She did have a point, there. If they were just on this bus-thing, it wasn't like he'd be at all far away. He could vault a couple of seats to interfere if necessary. For a wild moment, he entertained the thought of shoving Byakuya's head, followed by the rest of him, out of one of the small windows. It was a disturbingly nice vision, all things said.

Rukia rolled her eyes a little. "It's not like he's going to bite me."

It kind of helped, pretending like she was just going off for a chat, rather than doing one of the bravest (or most stupid?) things she had ever done. Standing, she was glad for the bumping and rocking of the bus; it masked the tremor in her legs.

Resting one hand on the seat for balance, Rukia clambered over Renji as gracefully as she could manage, then turned to go up the isle and sit with her brother.

Renji tried to pretend that he wasn't worried. He was too far away from his captain to eavesdrop on the conversation, and he wasn't certain if that was good or bad. If he heard raised voices, he could intervene quickly.

He crossed his arms over his chest and sank lower in his seat, closing his eyes and pretending to be asleep. Just in case someone looked back. He didn't want to look as upset as he felt.
