Nightshift 27: 2nd Floor Hallway near Nurse's Station

Allen followed, though his childish face was set in a firm line.  Clark couldn't be that much older than him, why was he being treated like a little child while Clark was leading the group?  He pushed his bruised pride aside.  It probably didn't help that he wasn't exactly the picture of health either.  Still, he kept an eye out for ( Read more... )

Rinali followed as well. Unlike Allen, she didn't mind being treated like a child at times. Besides, most girls her age were focused on silly little things like dresses and flirting with boys. She was just different, focused on saving the world instead.

By the time they reached the second floor, she didn't see Renji or the others anywhere. Without question, she was lost. It was up to the others to lead the way...which was fine. She mentally followed their steps so that she could get here again if she needed in the future.

As they stepped into the hall, however, Allen somehow looked worse. He was shaking! The obdurate anger that she was feeling before gave way to a sincere and deep concern for her friend. She still wasn't happy with him, but she couldn't sit idly by while he was feeling that way. As they walked, she put a hand lightly on his shoulder. There wasn't need for words.

Robin was happily strolling along behind the others, ea-
Hold up, he thought to himself, my ears don't twitch properly anymore. He prodded one with his pink fleshy finger, sadly. The lack of a tail had been so traumatic that he hadn't really noticed the ears before. He'd noticed the nose only a little. It was pretty much the same. He had to point it upwards a little and sniff. It worked. So did the mouth. But his ears didn't move unless he played with them. That was terrible. No wonder it was uncommon for these creatures to fight young. It must take so long training their senses. Stubbly little noses, no fangs, pointless ears, strange tail-less balancing acts ( ... )

Clark glanced over his shoulder. What was with these people? First Rinali and Allen not knowing what an air plane was, and now Robin getting excited at the idea of lights and running water. And something as simple as a bed? Either they were all crazy (which he doubted - they seemed awfully sane if so) or they really were from the past. He couldn't explain Robin, though, except that he seemed to be from a place where you weren't just automatically assumed to be human ( ... )

When Noah made for the stairs, Edgar glanced over towards the beast, then at Celes and Larsa. Then he nodded. "Hm. At least they already have help," he muttered, though his voice still held a moment of uncertainty. He couldn't help it; after all, kingship meant it was his duty to protect everyone, didn't it? But it also meant he had to be rational, and Edgar was nothing if not a rational man. Sometimes. Even if he didn't like it.

He was quiet as he followed Noah up the stairs, listening to the echo of his own steps. When he stepped into the hall, he flashed his torch carefully, inspecting the dark corridor. Luckily, it seemed this part of the building was less eventful than the one they'd just left.

Celes kept her eyes on the cat for a few long moments until they reached the stairwell. Then she found herself with the rather boring view of the back of Edgar's shadowed head. While it was foolishness to feel safety, especially in this place, there was a small measure of relief to be found in the click of the door as they ascended the stairs.

For a moment, they were at least guarded by the weak metal. Anyway, with the rotted cat behind them, back to the matter at hand. She'd not been to the second floor, but there was tell of stronger monsters. Or so she'd read, and wondered if it was simply that the people who had run into them were weaker than a usual person. "Shall we go left, or right?" she asked the back of Larsa and Noah's heads as the child and the man came closer to the door.

"If we were to proceed to the first hallway to our left then... we will find ourselves quite near to the experimentation hall." Larsa outwardly cringed when memories flooded in, but he quickly pushed the uneasiness into the back of his head. Even though he had given his map to Kairi earlier that day Larsa was able to mentally pick out most of the details, so he was able to recall what he had drawn for this floor.

"But there would appear to be some kind of lounge for doctors in the second hall to the left. My map was not as detailed when pertaining to the second floor, but that would be the most likely area where a kitchen would reside."

[Coming from Here]

Stopping upon entering the hallway from the stairs, Cloud flexed his grip on the weapons that he was carrying before looking back. He stepped to the side to allow Barret and Cid to come up, more comfortable following. He needed to learn where things were before he wanted to take the pulge ahead towards their mission.

The last thing they needed at this point was to have him get them lost. He was certain it was something he would not live down, especially if Rufus suffered more damage because of a turn around.

"So this is upstairs?" Cid muttered in his usual drawl, looking around with eyes now accustomed to the darkness. He walked ahead of Cloud and Barret, looking down one hall and then the other; it didn't take long for him to figure out where to go. He could hear loud shouts and the exchange of blows nearby, though not clearly ( ... )

Making it upstairs was one thing, but now there was the minor issue of where to go. Not the right - that led to the chapel and the pharmacy and whatnot, all of which Reno had come across the last time he'd gone up here with Schuldig.

Forward, then, seemed to be their best option.

"Up head, likely," he said.

What? She was just trying to keep them focused! Sheesh. But at least Reno wasn't calling her 'brat' or 'thief' or 'Yiffie', so her annoyance was somewhat mollified. It was more respect than she'd gotten from a Turk previously, that was for sure. Even if it was only because she'd ticked him off.

The ninja waited for both Turks to head up the stairs before following after them, refusing to be stuck with one at her back and one at her front. She reached the upper landing just in time to hear Reno's comment about their destination.

"You'd better not get us lost," she muttered, hanging her free hand off the waistband of her jeans.

Two teens bitching at his back. While Reno did appreciate Elena jumping down Yuffie's throat in his defence, he already had enough of a fucking headache without the two of them coming to blows in the middle of the goddamned hallway.

He spun around, although his glare was mostly directed at Yuffie. The end of the pipe slammed into the wall. "Enough. Holy fuck. You don't wanna be here, walk. Otherwise, shut the hell up."

He headed down the hall without bothering to wait for a response. Too dark to tell if he dented anything with that minor outburst. Probably. Whatever.

"Okay. It'll probably just be a little bit longer."

Clark wasn't sure he agreed that all Kyon needed was to go back to his own room, but he probably wouldn't like being brought against his will to the other room and handled like luggage. It wasn't that picking him up and carting him over would be hard, but he had to respect Kyon's decision and that pretty much included not dragging him anywhere he didn't want to go. Clark bit his lip, frowning as he led the way back down toward the stairs.

He was careful to keep it slow for Kyon, chewing over all this silently for a moment. What if Kyon really was a vampire? And if this, uh, thing wasn't temporary? He couldn't let Kyon help himself to the other people here, even if he couldn't help it and didn't mean to hurt anyone.

And maybe you're getting ahead of yourself, Clark thought, annoyed. So far Kyon hadn't done anything wrong.

He glanced over at Kyon. "If you feel like you need a rest, just tell me, okay?"

Kyon gave Clark a nod and continued forward. If he could get back to his room then maybe he could just forget about what happened to him tonight. He could sleep and maybe tomorrow everything would be gone. He wasn't exactly counting on that, but he could hope, right?

Haruhi was going to find this hilarious, he bet. If she was still going to talk to him after what happened earlier in the day.

He did his best to pick up the pace a little, so that Clark didn't have to take it so slow for him. He looked around a bit and realized that didn't recognize the area they were in at all.

"Where ...are we exactly, anyway?" He didn't mention that he could see almost perfectly in the dark now, he had yet to realize this himself.

Pausing, Clark looked around, the flashlight's beam weaving in the darkness. He thought this area looked familiar (kinda), but he wasn't one hundred percent sure. This was his first time up here, yeah, but he hadn't taken any turns that he wasn't supposed to. At least, he was pretty sure he hadn't.

"I'm guessing near the stairs," Clark replied. That was the plan, assuming they didn't get themselves turned around on the way back. "I think," he said, feeling like it'd be a lot better to admit he wasn't sure rather than lie. "I haven't been up here before. What about you?"

It was pretty quiet now. Kyon seemed to be improving a little - he was actually walking on his own and not looking as much like death warmed over, which Clark took to be a good sign.

"Stairs? We're on the second floor?" Kyon hadn't realized they were this far from the patient blocks. Or from any part of this place that he knew. He looked back at Clark and really hoped he wasn't going to get them lost. He didn't want the chance of them running into another monster. Kyon was decidingly useless in a fight, vampire or no, and he wasn't too sure about Clark.

"I've never been up here, before. I've only been here for ...two days? Yeah, two days." Though it seemed like so much longer than that. It felt like it had been forever. Kyon knew he couldn't think like that. Even though he was separated from the people who usually came to his rescue, he wasn't about to give up. He'd get back home without them.

Somehow.

"How long have you been here?"
