Nightshift 27 - M54

He was about to retort that he hadn't hit his head - Tenku's helmet prevented that for the most part - when the intercom came on not once, but twice. The voice seemed like it had come from the same person, except the second time it sounded almost a little sinister. A door in the kitchen, trips to a town? Maybe Arago had spent a lot of time when ( Read more... )

Sake? Mind-altering drugs? What was he babbling about? It was bad enough that Shadow only understood half of what the voice had said and was rather confused as to what sort of magic was making his voice so very loud that the nonsense the kid across from him was going on about was just making his headache worse. "If elves are mythological creatures then so am I," he said, frowning. He didn't care any longer about hiding what he was. If they were going to pair him with some lunatic then he might as well just out himself and be done with it.

"I'm a halfblood," Shadow said and when the proper response of shock to his words didn't come he decided the kid needed to have everything explained. "I'm part elf. Look, I'm not going to go into my entire lineage. We'd be here for hours. Important questions first and then we can debate whether my existence is real. Do you know a way out of here?"

Oh boy. This guy was more delusional than Touma thought, but he wasn't so arrogent to think that others might not think the same about him. People want to forget unpleasant things like giant demons taking over the world, and the bookworm couldn't blame them. "You must have been way into your LARP game when you got here. The only elves I've seen were animated or had fake ears on." He almost mentioned that demons existed, but stopped himself in time. Let the other guy live in his fantasy world if he wanted ( ... )

Shadow didn't stop to think what LARP was, why he'd be playing some sort of game, or what this animated thing was supposed to be. Still, he bristled at being told his ears were fake and he instinctively touched them, finding comfort in the fact that he could still feel the point that marked him as a halfblood. It was funny. Not twenty-four hours ago that distinctive feature would have gotten him killed if he'd been discovered by the elves. Now he was grateful to have them. At least they proved he wasn't insane.

He was about to snap an angry retort about what good a library would do them when the kid offered him a truce. Shadow should take it, he knew he should, but he was still rather frustrated and he grumbled to himself, cursing that he'd be stuck in a room with some human who thought he didn't exist or at the very least he was insane. "A truce," Shadow sighed, frustrated. "Yes. For the sake of time let's just drop the whole thing ( ... )

"I'm Touma," he said, giving a slight bow out of habit more than anything. He was a bit curious about Mero's hesitation on using his name, but the bookworm just chalked it up to being nervous about this whole situation.

Stretching, Touma walked over to the door and studied it a bit. "You know, I thought I heard a lock click just a bit ago. We can always try looking around the place...." He wanted to start searching for a way out, but he had to find someone to watch over Mero. Hopefully one who wouldn't concern him- or herself with Touma's own safety.
