Nightshift 27: F31 - F40 Hallway

Oct 06, 2007 15:32

The room number would make it fairly simple to navigate the facility until she met with the Vice Captain and Signum, the warrior she'd spoken with earlier. As Saber stepped out into the hallway, seeing nothing but darkness, she closed her eyes. What they had all said seemed to be true so far, though she hadn't doubted it after confirming it with ( Read more... )

Down, down, down, the voice on the intercom said. Were they some sort of entertainment for this man? It would seem so, especially from the way that his voice rippled with amusement occasionally as he spoke.

Despicable - but what could they do for now? He was taunting them, which led her to believe that even if they met him face to face, which it looked like they would be able to do tomorrow, he seemed reasonably sure that no one would be able to attack him.

Oh, there had to be a way.

But as soon as Nami stepped out of her room for the first time, she was stricken immediately by the change in the air. Perhaps it was her own imagination, or her own body reacting to fear, or the sudden realization that there were monsters wandering around out here, but there was a definite change in air pressure. This was the first thing Nami noticed ( ... )

As Saber neared the end of the hallway, she was forced to squint her eyes as the beam of her flashlight met another. There would be no avoiding the question, it seemed, though she doubted the conversation would set her back long enough so that she would be left behind.

The Servant regarded the other woman with a blank, even stare, committing her features to memory in case it would serve her later. Gripping Excalibur tightly, she answered evenly,

"My abilities have been limited so that I am only capable of summoning my weapon and not my armor."

Her abilities? Was this a Devil's Fruit user, or a monster..? Nami paused for a moment, dropping the beam of her flashlight just slightly.

She stared at the other woman for five seconds or so. Had she eaten.. the Armor Armor fruit, or something like that? It was always difficult to dream up what new Devil's Fruit abilities Nami's party would encounter while on their cruise toward the end of the Grand Line.

In the end, though, this would not prove useful to her. She could only assume that Zoro had not been given his swords here, if only because she herself had lost the Log Pose, which was arguably just as important as his swords.

"..I.. I see. Thank you very much," she said with a polite smile, voice clipped, deciding that to question this woman any more would be folly. Perhaps the navigator would further question her tomorrow, if she was indeed no sword-wielding monster.

Yes, she had to go. So she passed the swordswoman quickly and exited into the next hallway.

Saber blinked twice, observing the other woman as she flitted off and down the next hallway. Obviously, she had plans for the shift, which served as a reminder that the former king needed to get going herself, lest she be left behind. There was her reputation to think of wasn't there?

Excalibur in hand and flashlight in the other, Saber turned down the hallway, quickly taking note of the sign that pointed her in the right direction.

Ururu was starting to wonder just how big Landel's was. Her hall had ten rooms (she'd made sure to count), and this hall looked to be just as big, with who knew how many more halls to go. That was a lot of rooms, and Kisuke-san could be in any one of them.

And that wasn't even thinking about the second floor Maes-san had mentioned.

All Ururu could do was to keep looking, and hope Kisuke-san came out soon. She wanted to tell him about everything she had learned that day, wanted to show him that she had been doing good, even if she hadn't found their things yet.

Ururu really wanted him to not be mad at her anymore. And she wanted to go home.

Argilla waited until Nami had left before setting out herself. It was odd, having to set out without her Tribe to back her up, Cielo's optimism or Gale's dry comments. Without Serph's leadership. She stepped out into the darkness, not afraid in the slightest of the the place as it was. She could deal with monsters and at night, the hallways weren't too far removed from many of the places she'd been to.

She looked around curiously, noting the few people who were standing around. Her eyes lit upon one small lone girl, looked even younger than Fred.

Smiling gently, Argilla approached the girl, making her movements obvious so she wasn't startled. "Hey. You need some help?"

Ururu looked up at the woman as she spoke, not recognizing the stranger. Each new person she didn't know seemed to make Landel's a little bigger, a little worse...and a little farther from home.

"Do you know who Kisuke-san is?" He wasn't the only person who Ururu knew here, but he was the most familiar to her, and definitely the only one who could ease her mind. "I need to find him."

Well, she obviously knew someone here, that was a start. Argilla kept her reassuring smile on and crouched in front of the girl, bringing them eye to eye, her perfectly manicured hands resting on her knees. "I don't, I'm afraid," she said apologetically. "But I can help you find him if you wanted? Or wait with you until he arrives if he knows you're here. It's not meant to be safe out here."

Thursday had been about to respond to her roommate when the intercom switched on and the doors unlocked. She quirked an eyebrow at the Head Doctor's words, the side of her mouth twitching slightly. 'Wretched souls'? What kind of cheap dime novel had he come from, anyway?

"Bloody megalomaniacs," she muttered. "They're all the same, really."

She would have liked to check out the kitchen - much as she hated to admit it, the Head Doctor's taunting had piqued her curiosity - but she had other things to do tonight. Pulling on the overcoat and picking up her flashlight, she slipped the keyring and radio into a pocket and nodded to Emma Thornbridge.

"Well, we'd best be off."

On the other side of the room, M was having much the same reaction.

"Does he ever tie innocent young things to railway lines?" she wondered of Thursday, as she gathered up notebook and pens, keyring and flashlight, and buttoned her not-at-all-her-style white cardigan with grim attention. "And is there a large black mustache involved?"

But, all grumbling about melodrama aside, she nodded once to her room-mate, and fell into flanking step behind her, flashlight out and at the ready.

She tested the heft of it surreptitiously. Just because an enemy carried like a bit of an idiot didn't mean they were one.

It's been a while since Ai had finished her dinner. She didn't eat much though, a few bites was enough for her. The unoccupied bed in her room was still the same. She wondered though, could she really have a roommate? It was weird, but well, Ai tried not to think about it too much.

Ai heard noises from outside. Not that she was one to check up on those, but Ren told her things. Information, to say the least. There might be something going on, Ai had thought. Maybe she should look for Ren. Ai did say that they were going to join a group. She didn't know who she was going with, however. She only knew two familiar faces, and considering how big she imagined the facility was, it was going to be difficult to look for either one of those two.

She didn't think of it that much though. True, her contact with the Hotline to Hell was broken, and she couldn't turn Ren back into a strawdoll, but Ai was the Hell Girl. She had more things up her sleeve (hopefully).

Ai opened the door and slowly stepped out into the night.

A little late, but no harm, no foul. Ojou hadn't done what he'd feared and wandered off too far from her room.

Ren came up on the girl, turning his flashlight to the side so as not to blind her and to give her a chance to see who was coming. "Ojou," he said. "Had any trouble so far? It was all clear getting here."

He hadn't forgotten the incident with River and her... monstrous twin. But the doll was confident that he could tell the real thing from a fake, and even if he couldn't, he wasn't foolish enough to fall into a trap based on appearance alone. But his better judgement told him that what appeared to be a young, red-eyed little girl roaming the hall was definitely his rightful mistress.

Ai looked up at her servant. She could have easily sensed that he was coming, but something was limiting her powers, apparently, so she couldn't. At least Ren's voice was something usual for Ai to hear, that she immediately knew it was him. That, and with the help of Ren's flashlight.

She slowly raised an arm and used her hand to point to someplace not so far away from the hallway. "The nurse took me to a room there," she said, looking back at Ren.

In return, Ren turned the flashlight on the doorway she pointed at, squinting slightly to make it out in the gloom. "31, it looks like. I think that's your room number for now - where they'll keep taking you for dinner and things like that. I'm in M10, apparently." It didn't seem like anyone was in there now, and if Ai hadn't mentioned a roommate, the doll knew better than to ask down a fruitless avenue of questions. "Strange thing is... about the change from day to night around here... tomorrow you'll probably find yourself in bed, in that room. But no one remembers how they can go from creeping around in the dark to being back in the cellblocks. Not even me. It's like a massive whiteout. Guess one of the more curious things around here ( ... )

Beatrix peered out the door a moment, unconcerned about the obvious trap their captors had crafted or the game they decided to play. She needed to find BB and she didn't care how many people she'd have to kill, what state her body ended up in by the time this was all over, or where they ended up.

She glanced back at Naomi. "I hope to never encounter you again," she said to her roommate unemotionally. She then slipped out of the room, flashlight in hand, and left to try and find her daughter.
