Nightshift 19: Hallway Outside M41-M80 Block

[Coming from hereJust as he had before, Kurama pulled open the door to the hallway, throwing his beam of light out into the shadows before stepping out himself. It never hurt to be too careful. He wanted to hurry, but it wouldn't do anyone any good if he rushed into a situation he couldn't handle and got himself hurt ( Read more... )

Karasu continued to quietly follow Kurama, continuing to tread a good distance behind him. He would catch up if he honestly needed to; and for the time being, he felt that he most certainly had no need in doing so.

Stopping at the very door that the fox demon had, he paused to watch after him once more, taking a quick glance toward the other direction. Stepping out into the hallway to allow the door to fall shut behind him, he watched for anything overly suspicious and then turned to quietly start off after Kurama once more. He knew that it would be rather apparent by this point in time that he was indeed purposely following the other-the light from his own flashlight gave that away.

However, he had not been the opposite direction either and with presumed ‘monsters’ that could spring out from every corner of any hallway-or so he supposed-he could just as well go whatever direction that he pleased; that of which happened to be the very way Kurama was taking. A valid excuse, right? Or just a petty excuse over all…

And there it was. He was still following... Like the deranged stalker that he was. It wasn't surprising, really. After what had happened during the tournament, nothing even remotely psychotic would come as a surprise to Kurama if it came from this demon... He was quite possibly the most mentally unstable person the teen had ever had the misfortune of meeting.

Upon seeing the trailing beam of the flashlight, Kurama paused a few yards from the door, forcing his tone to be calm--emotionless. "Do you intend on following me all night long? Do you really have nothing more pressing to do with your time?" he asked, not bothering to turn and look back at Karasu.

Karasu stopped a few steps away from the other, having expected such a reaction. Nothing more, nothing less ( ... )

Kurama was not fooled in the least. He certainly knew exactly why Karasu was following him. And he was torn on what to do about it.

On one hand, he could ignore the crow's antics and merely continue on with his search. True enough, he wouldn't be admitting that he was unsettled by the other's presence...but that would mean that Karasu could follow him wherever he went. And the truth was, he was unsettled.

On the other hand, if he did tell Karasu to get lost, he wouldn't have to bother with the crow for the rest of the evening, hopefully. But then Karasu would know he'd succeeded in getting under his skin, and Kurama would give him no such pleasure if he could help it.

It was all a matter of deciding which was the lesser evil, really...

"Do you not have any other 'friends' to stalk? Surely, with as many unstable beings such as yourself in this building, you could find someone else to spend your time with..." It was stalling and Kurama knew it. He just didn't want to have to admit that he didn't know what to do.
