Nightshift 60: M-A Block Hallway

[from here]As much as Sangamon might deny it, Landel's words were echoing around in his head. He'd met the type a dozen times before. Utterly self-centered. Sociopaths, except they'd learned how to fake enough human interest to work their way into a CEO's office instead of a jail cell ( Read more... )

The hall was empty by the time Sora reached it. He had almost been hoping that he'd run into Riku briefly on his way through here, like he had last night, but that didn't seem to be happening. He was sure that his friend was just fine. He just hoped that Riku wasn't going to be upset with him for putting him with a stranger. If anything, it should show him how much Sora trusted him.

He was already making a promise to himself that he would meet up with Riku tomorrow. They would probably have a lot to talk about by then, and he wasn't willing to go too long without seeing either of his closest friends. Not when they had disappeared on him as many times as they had. He was going to make sure to keep a close eye on both from now on.

Which meant that first things first was getting to Kairi. Sora nodded to himself and stepped through the next door.

The familiarity of the clothing he was now wearing somehow added to Castiel's confidence. It made no sense; the coat and suit would in no way add to his ability to escape this place, when it came down to it. But when he had barely any of his powers left, it seemed that something as inconsequential as clothing was what he had to hold onto.

The blade in his hand was something even more familiar and far more useful, and Castiel's grip on it was tight and steady. While he hadn't set up plans with anyone over the course of the day, he would either come across someone in the halls or move on alone. While his body would sustain damage much more easily now, it had been some time since Castiel had been injured. And the night before had left him slightly prideful. He would manage.

[For Dean.]

[From hereHe didn't expect to stumble upon a way to escape or running into Martin Landel all by his lonesome. Hell, he'd just take getting home with Sam in tow and call it a day ( ... )

Normally, Castiel would have liked to believe that his senses would have been enough to avoid a collision, but whoever was speeding down the hallway managed to stop himself before they actually bumped into each other. That person turned out to be Dean himself, and Castiel couldn't help glancing over the man's shoulder to put to memory where exactly he'd come from. Now he had at least some idea of where Dean's room was.

The comments on his clothing stood out, mainly because he recalled Dean fussing over his tie once before. But this was the first time that Dean -- the Dean of the past, that is -- had seen him like this. Strange, when it was more or less the only thing Dean had seen him in, before this ( ... )

Yeah, so basically Castiel had answered his question: apparently Heaven was some spiritual nudie colony. Probably the most boring one in existence, given Castiel's total lack of excitement there ( ... )

Riku wasn't that surprised that he didn't see Sora out anywhere. Even if they lived in the same hall, his friend wouldn't have wasted any time getting to Kairi's. Who knew what the night would hold, after all. It seemed best not to dawdle. He figured that counting on Sora was always a good idea. It hadn't proved him wrong yet.

So he just moved through the halls on his own. It was funny how different it was from the night before. What had previously been covered in blood was now different; Landel made quick work or it was all an illusion. Riku couldn't say for sure.

(He had experience with both things, anyway.)

The chaos was gone for tonight, it seemed. He wondered if there would be any surprises before morning came.

Locke didn't bother pausing in the main block hallway. Part of him was still in rush mode and another part was just a little concerned that he'd run into Edgar or Tolten and, possibly, derail them from whatever they were doing if not cause them to join him completely.

It wasn't that he didn't want to see his friends, he was just tired of putting them in danger and continuing to be a liability. The sooner he could get upstairs, the better.

After last night's misadventures, Hakkai was cautious as he headed down to the corridor connecting all of the room blocks together. The odd... sheen everything had held last night seemed to be gone, though, and as he played his flashlight around the corners, there were no skittering movements, either. Just the quiet of nighttime. He wasn't sure if that in of itself should be worrying him - though at least it gave him a distraction from his earlier thoughts as he went out into the main halls.
