Day 60: Patient Library (Third Shift)

Dec 07, 2011 16:20

After handling two conversations that had been difficult for completely different reasons, Castiel had to admit that he felt weary. It was not a sensation that was new to him; between Izaya showing far too much interest in his kind and Ruby simply being who she was, some peace and quiet was what he craved ( Read more... )

Well, this made for another change in routine, although Daemon took the bagged lunch without argument as his nurse guided him to his next location. Fortunately she gave him a moment to stop off and leave a note on the bulletin board for the person he was supposed to be meeting at lunch, since the cafeteria was no longer an option.

Instead, he headed for the library, finding a table that gave him a good view of the door and any who came and went, hoping he'd recognize the person who wanted to speak about the night before. Settling down in a chair, he pulled out his sandwich and flipped through his notes in his journal while he waited.

It was just as well Soma had decided to check the bulletin after receiving her lunch, and she made her way to the library without further ado. The man's description intrigued her, even if it had become clear to her by now that golden eyes didn't necessarily mean anything in a lot of other people's worlds.

She stopped just inside the library doors, scanning the current occupants. There was a tall man with dark hare seated not too far away, and Soma approached cautiously.

"Excuse me. I'm Soma Peries. Would you happen to be the man I was looking for?"

Daemon glanced up from his journal at the sound of her voice, his gaze sliding over her curiously for a moment before he smiled. "If we spoke on the board, yes, I would assume I am," he answered in greeting, sliding automatically to his feet and giving a polite bow. The move was instinctive and he did it without thought, and he fixed her with an inquisitive gaze as he straightened once more.

"I am Daemon Sadi," he introduced himself, then motioned to the chair across from his own. "Please, have a seat, Miss Peries. I'm interested in hearing what you witnessed last night."

Again with the bowing. Lingormr had done it, too. Was it just her luck today? Soma hovered for a moment, unsure how to respond, before inclining her own head slightly and seating herself across from Daemon ( ... )

When he had been given the choice, Seishin found himself heading into the library. He enjoyed the relative silence it offered, finding it pleasant. Perhaps, it offered the former priest a little more peace, even though today he entered the room with mixed feelings: after all, a library was hardly a preferable area to consume one's lunch. But the nurses had no such reservations, however, and he had to promise that he would eat before he was free to search the shelves.

He glanced at the books' spines, searching for Paradise Lost. He hadn't been able to read much of it yesterday, instead finding himself in that slightly awkward conversation with Threepwood-san. He hadn't been in the mood to read back then, however, and even now it still felt a little weird to do some casual reading with all that was going on.

Rapunzel hadn't gone through the bulletin board very thoroughly after speaking with Buffy. It had only taken one mention of someone having died in gruesome fashion for her to determine that last night had been as bad for everyone else as it had been for her, probably worse. She replied to messages from people she knew, but otherwise didn't post any messages of her own. The mass of information and long conversations just wasn't something she felt she could handle right now. If she was going to read something, she figured she would rather do it from a book than the board.

And so it was with some relief that Rapunzel headed to the library after the announcement of a free shift. Bagged lunch with cheese sandwich in hand, she made her way back to the shelves she had spent yesterday's shift in with Kairi. She had gotten some of A Little Princess read after their conversation, but not much, and was very keen to continue. The only problem? She couldn't for the life of her remember the name of the author. And so she found herself running her ( ... )

At the sound of a female voice, Seishin looked up from his search. The owner of the voice was a girl with long, golden hair who appeared to be in her late teens. He blinked at the question, taking a moment to think before shaking his head. He had read a lot of books, but A Little Princess wasn't among them, unfortunately.

"My apologies, but I'm afraid I don't," he answered on a quiet tone, "I assume you're looking for this book, then?" A rather obvious statement, but there were few other reasons for requiring the name of the author, after all.

Rapunzel nodded, a little disappointed, but not put out. "That's okay. I'm sure I'll find it eventually," she said with a quiet laugh.

Though, after a moment, she got curious, glancing back over to the man as he continued to peruse the shelves. He seemed to know his way around them, or at the very least be interested in them. Since coming out here, she was always curious to meet fellow bookworms. "Are you looking for something specific too?" she asked after a moment, offering another smile. "I've never read most of the things in this library. What's good?"

Though Wizard Landel was seemingly back in charge again- and despite how awful he could be, the Scarecrow did want to believe that, but he wouldn't put it past the General to come up with a scheme to pretend everything was back to the way it had been- there were still changes to be made to the routine. Though it was just being given the option of where to go for lunch, it was still something different from the norm.

He wasn't about to complain, though- it gave him the opportunity to look into something he'd been meaning to for some time. Taking his sack lunch from the nurse (and he had to admit he did miss them, as they were far nicer than the soldiers), the Scarecrow headed for the library.

Though his middle grumbled from hunger, the former strawman took a moment to peruse the books that lined the shelves, keeping the sack curled in his hand. He was sure he recalled something on the board about a book being about Oz, and his curiosity wouldn't be satiated until he found it. Would it be like the movie, something that made it ( ... )

Nothing like two good meals in one day to brighten up your spirits. Carter took comfort where he could, his optimism would permit no less. He entered the library with a smile on his face, wondering if there'd be any new books to compliment the delicious new food.

"Frank!" That was Frank, right? The guy he kept leading into injury. He should probably stop doing that.

Carter crouched next to him, an eager smile on his face. "Whatcha looking for?"

The Scarecrow jumped as the quiet atmosphere of the library clashed with someone calling his name rather loudly. He recognized the voice instantly, placing it as Sergeant Carter. He greeting his friend with a smile, glad to see he was still around. With the events of the night before, he'd thought the man might have run into trouble again. He did have a tendency to do that.

"Oh, Sergeant," he said with a nod in greeting. "I thought I would try to find a book here. I read about it on the board once, and it, well..." He came up with something that was close to the truth. "It sounded interesting. I believe it's called The Wizard of Oz. You haven't heard of it, have you?"

"Of course! I used to read it all the time when I was a kid. Never got a chance to see the movie but I heard it was real good."

Carter turned his firm attention to the bookcase, trying to hunt down that particular book. He enjoyed a good kid's book now and then, though comics were his primary childish joy. And Frank had always seemed a fun-loving kind of guy, so optimistic even when he'd gotten his arm all burned up. Now that was a man Carter could respect.
